Bell was asked to explain the riding tactics adopted, particularly the reasons for not taking up a forward position in the early stages of the event. Browne reported it had not been his intention to lead, however after travelling a short distance he realised he would be forced to race wide and he therefore rode forward passing the 1000m and took up the lead passing the 900m. He indicated he fulfilled instructions by going back in the field, however in his opinion the gelding did not travel comfortably at any point of the race and he applied the whip at the 600m and in the straight, however the horse did not respond and, in his opinion, raced very flat. He stated that, in his opinion, the horse had come to the end of its preparation and should be spelled. Trainer B. Hull stated that, in his opinion, the gelding had come to the end of its preparation and he would be suggesting to the owners that the horse be spelled. Mr Hull will be advised that the gelding would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
