SHADOW LAWN – Jockey R. Wiggins was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the filly, in particular why, after allowing SHEISWHATSHEIS to cross him near the 1000m, he elected to ease his mount and shift out near the 900m to race one off the fence. R. Wiggins explained that he was instructed by connections to lead or sit outside the leader, and that his mount had not begun particularly well, and from the inside draw he was expecting to hold the lead. R. Wiggins stated when joined by SHEISWHATSHEIS (T. Harrison) near the 1200m, he considered Miss Harrison did not appear to be pushing forward and he was of the opinion he may be able to hold the leading position on the fence. He said shortly after Miss Harrison then continued on and therefore he elected to steady and did so before the 1000m. He said after being crossed he elected to shift out to race at the hind quarters of SHEISWHATSHEIS. He added that shortly after this his filly was inclined to lay in and gave ground in the straight. Jockey Wiggins also added that the filly had raced similarly at the Sunshine Coast in a previous start in the 3-year-old Handicap. Trainer Mr B. Baldwin was questioned regarding the instructions he gave jockey Wiggins today. He stated he had expected the filly to lead or be in a handy position, however, in his opinion, she raced similarly at the Sunshine Coast at its previous start. He added on that occasion he had his own veterinary surgeon examine the filly and could find nothing amiss. He added that since that start she had worked well and he was at a loss to explain the performance. When questioned as to whether he considered jockey Wiggins had erred by shifting out from behind SHEISWHATSHEIS near the 900m, he was not overly critical as the filly compounded rather quickly a short distance later. Jockey Wiggins was told whilst stewards were satisfied that he was entitled to try and hold the lead, but having then restrained, he may have erred by then shifting out to race to the outside of the leader rather than to have maintained his position. An initial examination of betting on the race did not reveal any unusual betting patterns. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
