FULL DIAMOND – Raced ungenerously in the middle stages and had to be restrained from the heels of MR DUMONT. Stewards questioned B. Stewart regarding his riding of the gelding, particularly in the home straight. Jockey Stewart explained that the gelding was difficult to ride throughout and in the home straight, when he applied some pressure, FULL DIAMOND was inclined to lay in badly, which prevented him from continuing to apply pressure to the horse. He added that he slapped the horse down the shoulder passing the 200m and the gelding continued to shift in badly and for this reason he failed to ride the horse out in his normal manner. B. Stewart was reminded of his obligation to report to stewards any occurrence in the race that may have affected the performance of the horse. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer S. O’Dea’s representative was advised that the gelding would be required to trial before racing again.

PLATINUM HAWK – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

Following the running of this event the track was downgraded to SOFT 7 retrospective.

HOT CHOICE – Checked at the start. Had to be steadied near the 900m when tightened for room by AMERICAN LOVE, which was taken in slightly by PLAY THING. L. Tarrant, the rider of PLAY THING, was reprimanded and advised to show greater care when shifting ground in the future.

Dann was advised that he must obtain a further barrier certificate for the gelding before it is permitted to race again. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested CODE ONE be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 3:35 pm:

Race 5: CASCADE UBET ‘ORIGIN’ JOCKEY SERIES CLASS 2 PLATE – 2240M

ANOTHER COCKTAIL – Had to be steadied near the 1500m. Had to be steadied from heels when the pace steadied near the 1300m and shifted out three wide and raced wide for the remainder of the event.

ASTRONOMIC – Knuckled at the start and lost ground. Severely checked and struck the running rail near the 1500m. D. Dunn, the rider of PILLARA, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that passing the 1600m he allowed his mount to shift in when not fully clear of BEAU ISA, which had to be steadied and was taken in towards ASTRONOMIC, which was severely checked when tightened for room between BEAU ISA and the running rail. Jockey Dunn’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 13 days, to commence at midnight on Sunday 10 December and expire at midnight on Saturday 23 December 2017. In determining penalty, stewards were mindful of jockey Dunn’s recent poor record and that the interference to ASTRONOMICAL was significant.
