From Esk – Saturday 2 March 2019 – Race 3: J. Oliver, the rider of GRATSIE, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR131(b) of failing to ride that gelding out to the end of the race. J. Oliver was fined the sum of $200.

Race 1: BLOKES DAY OUT RACEDAY MAIDEN HANDICAP– 1200M

After viewing the stewards’ patrol footage, apprentice M. Murphy, the rider of TICKETOME, placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against MUSIC being declared the winner, alleging interference near the 500m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, it was established that near the 500m MUSIC improved to the outside of TICKETOME and soon afterwards TICKETOME shifted out and made contact with MUSIC, which resulted in MUSIC being turned inwards and TICKETOME being inconvenienced when steadying from the heels of STAMEN. As stewards were of the view that the initial shift was from TICKETOME contacting MUSIC, the protest was dismissed and correct weight was declared on the Judge’s placings.

BRAHMA ARMOUR – Overraced in the early and middle stages.

Race 2: TAB MAIDEN PLATE – 1640M

BLACK MOUNTAIN – Shifted out abruptly from heels near the 1150m.

IPSO NEM FELEK – Began to overrace when the tempo slowed approaching the 1200m and had to be restrained from the heels of DIPLOMATIC MISS. Bumped on the hind quarters over the concluding stages.

PISTOLERO – Accidentally struck over the head with the whip over the final stages and then shifted out and bumped IPSO NEM FELEK.

GOTHIC ROMANCE – Began to overrace near the 1150m and had to be steadied from the heels of GOOD TIME GIRL, and shifted out. Inclined to lay in for some distance approaching and passing the 600m.

DIPLOMATIC MISS – Shifted out slightly under pressure over the final stages. R. Stewart reported at scale that it was not his intention to lead on DIPLOMATIC MISS but the filly began well and when the pace was slow early he allowed it to stride forward to take up the lead approaching the 1300m.

Race 3: BRC MEMBERSHIPS BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP – 1640M

SORNJA – Tightened for room approaching the winning post. Lost the off fore plate in running.

FORT MYER – Shifted out under pressure over the final stages.

MARLAHN – P. Romeo dropped his whip near the 200m.

Race 4: TAB BENCHMARK 85 HANDICAP– 1050M

BOOMWAA – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

DAZZLING RED – Raced in restricted room to the inside of WUDANG BLADE approaching and rounding the home turn.

Race 5: THE RACING MUSEUM QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE –  – 1350M

ALL UP TEE KAY – Disappointed for clear running approaching the 300m and had to alter course to the outside of KATY BOOM in order to improve.

CRUDE OIL – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early stages. Became awkward near the 800m when racing in restricted room to the inside of QUOTANT.

HIGH I CUE – Raced three wide without cover.

ROCK ‘N’ SOL – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

QUOTANT – Slow to begin. Had to be checked near the 350m to avoid the heels of ROCK ‘N’ SOL. B. Stewart, the rider of ROCK ‘N’ SOL, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that at that point he permitted his mount to shift out around the heels of HIGH I CUE when not clear of QUOTANT. B. Stewart’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 12 days, to commence at midnight on Wednesday 13 March and expire at midnight Monday 25 March 2019.

STAR SINGER – Slow to begin. Raced wide in the early stages. Apprentice B. Nothdurft was questioned regarding his riding of the filly in the early stages, particularly after being a little slow to begin, and the reason for him riding his mount vigorously forward and crossing to the lead near the 800m. Apprentice Nothdurft explained that he had hoped to gain a handy position with cover trailing KATY BOOM, to attempt to comply with instructions from connections, but when ROCK ‘N’ SOL improved behind KATY BOOM, rather than be caught wide he allowed his mount to improve forward with the light weight and take up the lead.

Race 6: PADDYFEST 2019 CLASS 2 HANDICAP– 2040M

PROUD CAPTAIN – Hampered when tightened for room near the 400m.

LA FIREBIRD – Hung in under pressure in the home straight.

KEEP YOUR ROSES – Restrained from the outside barrier to gain a position closer to the rail.

RAKHISH – Raced three wide without cover in the early stages.

Race 8: SKY THOROUGHBRED CENTRAL BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP– 1200M

MISHANI WRANGLER – Apprentice C. Bayliss was reminded of the whip rule in relation to raising his whip arm above shoulder height.

BUCK BAY – Overraced in the early stages. Shifted out under pressure over the final stages.

DREAM KISSES – Hampered over the final stages when awkwardly placed at the heels of BUCK BAY.

IL RICCIO – Shifted soon after the start and made heavy contact with SPEEDGUN. Held up and unable to improve rounding the home turn.

MIOCIC – Raced three wide without cover.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery.

BACK CHAT – Threw its head in the air whilst being restrained when the pace slowed near the 800m. Had to be steadied from the heels of RED COLOUR near the 200m when that runner shifted out to improve. B. Stewart, the rider of RED COLOUR, was cautioned and advised to show greater care when shifting ground.

SPEEDGUN – Bumped heavily at the start. Had to be restrained from the heels of BACK CHAT near the 800m and shifted in slightly.
