Maloney (JAY CURVE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that passing the 500m he allowed his mount to shift in tightening LADY MELBA, which was forced in onto MADAME MO, which had to be checked and lost ground at that point. Jockey Maloney’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of eight (8) days to commence midnight 2 February 2020 and expire midnight 10 February 2020. As N. Keal was indisposed due to personal injuries Stewards permitted App J. Murphy to be substituted as the rider of STAMEN.

MORE SHOTS – Began awkwardly and bumped the hind quarters of ENCIEH.

HIGHLAND REBEL – Hampered on jumping and lost ground.

HIGH CHIEF – After passing the 1000m commenced to overrace and in doing so resented being restrained and hung out proving difficult to ride. After passing the 800m shifted wider on the course making the home turn very wide and whilst hanging the bit was pulled through the gelding’s mouth, which prevented its rider from pressuring his mount from that point onwards and finished a distant last. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer B. Lockwood indicated to Stewards that the gelding has had some soundness issues previously and its racing manners have been difficult to correct. Mr Lockwood was advised that the gelding must complete three official trials to the satisfaction of Stewards and a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to the gelding racing again.

SIZZALATING – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

STAMEN – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore tendon. Trainer B. Gorman was advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to the gelding racing again.

App A. Thompson (SIZZALATING) was interviewed by Stewards regarding an alleged incident which took place behind the barriers prior to this race. After hearing evidence from App Thompson and viewing the available footage Stewards could not be satisfied that App Thompson had committed a breach of any Rule. It was confirmed that SIZZALATING had stood on App Thompson’s foot whilst he was assisting in the replacement of the tongue-tie. Stewards however advised App Thompson he should refrain from placing himself in a position of risk or injury in similar circumstances.

Jockey R. Maloney (BREAKDANCE) was fined $1,000 for use of the whip more than the permitted amount prior to the 100m.

Ross was advised that SISTER PATTI would be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards and be examined by the veterinary surgeon after trialling.

INVINCIBLE AL – Held up rounding the home turn.

HE’S THE DEEL – Passing the 300m had to be checked when tightened by SKYLIGHT, which was taken in by the riderless BASANITE.

The start of this race was rescheduled to start at 5.50 p.m. due to the incident in Race 6 and for the arrival of the replacement ambulance.

ZOOLOGY – Approaching the home turn shifted wider on the course in an attempt to secure clear running and in doing so bumped on a number of occasions with NORTHERN KNIGHT. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted App Patis explained that her instructions were to ride the gelding in a middle to rearward position which is consistent to the way it has been ridden previously, and after passing the 600m to look for an opportunity to shift out, secure clear running to allow to gelding to gain momentum. App Patis further added that passing the 600m she elected to shift wider on the course but was unable to secure clear running and rounding the home turn had to alter course back to the inside to obtain clear running. App Patis stated in hindsight it may have been a better option to remain in the position closer to the rail passing the 600m and ride for luck. Stewards agreed with App Patis, however found that her decision to shift out as to comply with her instructions were not unreasonable and took no further action.

NORTHERN KNIGHT – Rounding the home turn was bumped on a number of occasions by ZOOLOGY and forced wider on the course.

VENETIAN BEAUTY – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

METAMORPHIC – Raced three wide with cover throughout.

Race 8: Girls Day Out Raceday Class 1 Handicap – 1350m

ZOUVILLA – Began awkwardly.

MANTELLI – Approaching the 900m had to be checked. At a subsequent inquiry Jockey L. Tarrant (JESSINA) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that approaching the 900m he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of MANTELLI, which had to be checked and lost its rightful running. Jockey Tarrant’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of eight (8) days to commence midnight 2 February 2020 and expire midnight 10 February 2020. Held up for clear running after passing the 600m until after passing the 400m.

ROCK ‘N’ SOL – Raced three wide with cover throughout.

App B. Nothdurft (ZOUVILLA) pleaded guilty to a charge of using his whip more than the permitted amount prior to the 100m under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii). In considering an appropriate penalty Stewards took into account this was App Nothdurft’s third charge under this Rule on the same day.
