Race 1: TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY QTIS 2YO CL 2 H'CAP – 1350M

MOONAN ME – Bumped on the hind quarters on jumping. Raced in restricted room near the 1100m to the inside of WITHOUT THINKING, which shifted in slightly. Commenced to overrace whilst being restrained off heels when the pace slowed near the 900m. When asked to comment on the performance, apprentice S. Thornton explained that she was not disappointed with the performance of the gelding as she was of the opinion that the tempo of the race was not run to suit. She added that after racing in a prominent position in a slow tempo her mount failed to sprint when asked to respond and in her opinion would be better suited in a more genuinely run race.

READY TO BOLT – Jumped awkwardly and shifted in despite the efforts of its rider, hampering WITHOUT THINKING in on to I AM A BEAUTY, which made contact with the hind quarters of MOONAN ME.

HE KNOWS – Commenced to overrace when being restrained off heels when the pace slowed near the 900m.

WITHOUT THINKING – Hampered on jumping and taken in on to the hind quarters of MOONAN ME. Raced three wide without cover.

I AM A BEAUTY – Resented racing to the inside of MANDEVILLE ROCKER near the 900m, had to be steadied and lost ground.

Race 2: WHISPER MAIDEN H'CAP – 1640M

WHY WOULDN’T YOU – Bumped by BRING ME SHOWERS near the 50m, taken across the heels of JERRY ZANDA and had to be restrained.

JUST WISHING – Overraced when leading in the early and middle stages.

BRING ME SHOWERS – Held up rounding the home turn. Taken outwards by DEBONAIR DES near the 50m, shifted away from that runner soon afterwards and made contact with WHY WOULDN’T YOU. M. Schrapel, the rider of DEBONAIR DES, was advised to stop riding and straighten sooner than he did on this occasion.

DEBONAIR DES – Shifted out under riding over the final stages, taking BRING ME SHOWERS outwards. M. Schrapel was fined $200 for using the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m. In determining penalty, stewards took into account that jockey Schrapel had also used the whip on 12 occasions over the final 100m.

PEBKAC – Slow to begin.

Race 3: MITAVITE MAIDEN H'CAP – 1350M

KEEN ON GOLD – Slow to begin.

BLITZEN PASTURE – Overraced in the early stages.

MY SHARONA – Jumped awkwardly and hampered AROSEFORZOU. Hung out near the 800m and had to be restrained from the heels of AROSEFORZOU.

AROSEFORZOU – Hampered at the start. Had to be eased passing the 400m when tightened for room between KEEN ON GOLD and LOUD NOISE, which shifted out and around BLITZEN PASTURE. S. Cormack, the rider of LOUD NOISE, was advised to afford fellow riders sufficient room in similar circumstances.

Race 4: TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M

LEO THE LION – Trainer T. Cotsiopoulos was fined $200 for failing to declare a rider by the prescribed time.

WAR’S END – Overraced badly in the early stages.

ANGELIC ARCHER – Raced three wide without cover.

HENLEY MISS – Overraced badly in the early stages. Held up and unable to obtain clear running approaching and rounding the home turn.

PETRALIA – Stewards sought an explanation from B. Thornton regarding his decision to shift out behind LEO THE LION in an attempt to obtain a run to the outside of that horse and to the inside of ARJAYAR. Mr Thornton explained that he made the decision to shift out behind LEO THE LION at that stage as he was of the opinion that that runner would not take him into the race and he would soon after straightening be able to force a run between LEO THE LION and ARJAYAR. Soon afterwards VOGUE improved to the outside of ARJAYAR, which prevented him from moving outwards and as HENLEY MISS had improved to the inside of LEO THE LION he was unable to obtain that run and this resulted in him being unable to secure clear running behind LEO THE LION for a major part of the home straight. His explanation was noted.

After riding in this event J. Bayliss returned to scale slightly distressed and after being given some time to recover he was examined by the Club doctor who cleared him to fulfil his remaining engagements.

Race 5: EVENTS AT BRC 0 – 68 H'CAP – 2040M

FAIRY ME HOME – Pulled hard in the early and middle stages.

MOMENTUM TO WIN – Slow to begin. Overraced badly in the early stages. Held up rounding the home turn and in the home straight until passing the 100m where it obtained a run between EL CHAPARRO and DEE CEE DELIGHTS.

MERLIN’S MAGIC – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight until obtaining a run to the inside of DEE CEE DELIGHTS near the 200m.

IPSO NEM FELEK – Connections advised that the horse would be ridden more conservatively than it has been in recent starts if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.

DEE CEE DELIGHTS – Stewards questioned D. Smith regarding the reason for him shifting out from the 400m, which enabled both DASHING SPECIAL and MERLIN’S MAGIC to obtain a run to his inside. Jockey Smith explained that his mount was inclined to lay out from the 500m and when weakening rounding the home turn it laid out further, which provided room for both DASHING SPECIAL and MERLIN’S MAGIC to improve to his inside. Jockey Smith explained that his horse is better suited when racing on a rain-affected track. His explanation was noted.

Race 6: BRC MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1640M

STAYING BLACK – When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice J. Huxtable stated that the horse travelled well throughout the event, however, proved disappointing over the concluding stages. Trainer S. Kendrick agreed with the comments of apprentice Huxtable and undertook to advise stewards should anything come to light in ensuing days which may have had an effect on the performance.

CANAPES – Shifted out under pressure over the final 100m, resulting in TABARD and TOP ME UP AGAIN being taken wider.

SPIRIT ESPRIT – Slow to begin.

TABARD – Raced ungenerously for a short distance when being restrained passing the 1300m. Overraced in the early and middle stages. Taken wider by CANAPES over the final 100m.

TOP ME UP AGAIN – Had to be restrained approaching the 1300m. Taken wider by CANAPES over the final 100m.

PRINNY’S SUCCESS – Had to be checked to avoid the heels of STAYING BLACK approaching the first turn near the 1300m. R. Maloney, the rider of CANAPES, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that approaching the first turn he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of STAYING BLACK, which was taken in across the rightful running of PRINNY’S SUCCESS. R. Maloney’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 7 days, to commence at midnight on Wednesday 8 July and to expire at midnight on Wednesday 15 July 2020.

DIPLOMATIC MISS – Slow to begin.

SCOTTISH LAD – The veterinary surgeon reported that the gelding had pulled up lame in the near foreleg and had lost the near fore plate. Connections were advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

HEEBEE RIGHT MATE – Inclined to lay out under pressure over the final 200m.

Race 7: THE VILLAGE KITCHEN ASCOT BM70 H'CAP – 1200M

MOSCINI, which got its leg up on the barrier partition, was removed from the barriers, examined by the veterinary surgeon and found to be lame in the near hind leg. MOSCINI was declared a late scratching at 4:04 pm on veterinary advice. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on MOSCINI be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 4:04 pm:

11 cents in the dollar for the win #2
11 cents in the dollar for place of winner #2
10 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #7

I DREAM OF GREEN – Shifted out after being crossed in the lead near the 800m, resulting in KING OF THE DESERT, which was hanging out, being taken wider on the track.

ATLANTIC CITY – Tightened for room soon after the start between SCHWEID AS, which shifted out, and RICHETTI, which was taken in by I DREAM OF GREEN.

LEROYTHECONQUEROR – Jumped awkwardly.

KING OF THE DESERT – Hung out for a major part of the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

SCHWEID AS – Improved between COPYWRITER and I DREAM OF GREEN where there was insufficient room when racing fiercely approaching the 600m and had to be checked.

Race 8: CANADIAN CLUB CLASS 2 PLATE – 1350M

REUS – Began to overrace approaching the 700m and shifted out from the heels of SHE’S RUBICOOL. Hung in under pressure in the home straight and as a result proved difficult to ride.

STUCK WITH YOU – J. Byrne reported that his mount raced greenly during the race.

THUNDEROUS STRIKE – Raced three wide without cover. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

NITROGLYCERINE – Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.

TOO HARD TO MISS – Restrained from a wide barrier to the rear to gain a position close to the rail.
