Race 9: JOCKEY CELEBRATION DAY BENCHMARK 85 Handicap 1350 metres

On return to scale a protest was lodged by J Orman, rider of second past the post WAIPITI, against second past the post AT WITZ END (B Stewart) alleging interference near the 800 metres. After taking evidence from the riders concerned and viewing the patrol footage Stewards found that near the 800 metres AT WITZ END shifted in momentarily before being corrected by its rider resulting in WAIPITI being crowded for room and having to check. Bearing in mind where the incident took place, the half neck margin and the manner in which both horses finished the race off, Stewards could not be satisfied that the placings should be reversed and dismissed the protest and correct weight declared on the semaphored placings. At a subsequent inquiry B Stewart was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding.

SPECTROSCOPE (USA) – On arrival at the barriers the saddle on the gelding was readjusted. Crowded on jumping.
