SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
SUNSHINE COAST - SUNDAY 29TH AUGUST 2021
 
CONQUER THE STARS – Trainer C Cousins since reported that CONQUER THE STARS had pulled up well since its disappointing performance from Sunshine Coast on Sunday 29th August. He was nonetheless advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required prior to its next start.
 
Race 1: SPRING CARNIVAL ON SALE NOW MDN PLT – 1660M
 
FLASH GURU – Rider T Brooker reported that her mount was inclined to hang and overrace throughout the event.
 
KEATON – Slow to begin. Commenced to overrace near the 900m and had to be steadied from heels.
 
NORTH ROCKS – Bumped on jumping.
 
SENNACHIE – Had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight.
 
SPIRITUAL – Approaching the 1400m was tightened for several strides when MALIBU BLAZE laid in and away from SENNACHIE who shifted in marginally.
 
STRAPPED – Bumped on jumping. Steadied from heels near the 1400m.
 
MALIBU BLAZE – Change of tactics – To be ridden more forward; settled off pace. Approaching the 1400m when racing in restricted room, shifted in and away from SENNACHIE.
 
SEIZE HER – Change of tactics – To be ridden in the second half of the field, slow to begin and settled in the back of the field as a result. Commenced to overrace near the 900m and had to be steadied from heels.
 
Race 2: CASCADE MDN HCP – 1200M
 
REGAL EDITION – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
 
MOTTRAM – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
WHISTLE HOFF – Slow to begin and bumped shortly after. Shifted wide at the 800m and remained wide until a point near the 600m. Rider B Appo dropped his whip near the 100m.
 
KING HAMMURABI – Steadied near the 600m when awkwardly placed on the heels of SOOBLOND.
 
SOOBLOND – Began very awkwardly. Approaching the 600m bumped with WHISTLE HOFF (B Appo) which shifted in and as a result became awkwardly placed on heels and had to be steadied. Rider B Appo was reprimanded under AR131(a) and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
 
OFF ROAD – Due to COVID-19 restrictions, permission was granted for M Hellyer to ride ½ kg over his allotted weight. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
Race 3:XXXX DRY QTIS 3YO C1 PLT – 1200M
 
CRACK OF DOOM – Raced wide throughout. Bumped with HARD REVYA on several occasions passing the 400m and was forced wider as a result.
 
GEMELON BOLT – Blundered badly on jumping losing significant ground.
 
HARD REVYA – Steadied from heels near the 800m. Shifted out to secure clear running passing the 400m and bumped on several occasions with CRACK OF DOOM. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
BULLOO – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight. After obtaining a run approaching the 200m to the inside of FROSTY MANGO was then obliged to race in restricted room and bumped with FROSTY MANGO near the 150m when that horse shifted ground.
 
FROSTY MANGO – Bumped with BULLOO near the 150m.
 
MISHANI TULIP – Trainer L Ross was advised that a warning would be placed on the record of MISHANI TULIP in regards to being reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Trainer L Ross added that MISHANI TULIP was showing signs of being in season which could’ve contributed to the mannerisms of MISHANI TULIP.
 
COLLAY’S SPIRIT – Bumped and forced wider near the 150m.
 
TEE AMICI – Raced wide with no cover throughout.
 
Race 4: COUNTRY MUSIC WEEKEND 10-11 SEPTEMBER C1 HCP – 1660M
 
OUTBACK GLADIATOR – Slow to begin.
 
SAN BERNARDINO – Began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
WELL WELL WELL – Tightened on jumping. Raced wide throughout. Laid in from the 1400m onwards with rider B Appo stating from that point on, the bit had pulled through the horses mouth to the nearside, placing him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event. Trainer D Murphy stated that he would now be experimenting with the addition of a ring bit, however, was nonetheless advised a warning would be placed on the record of WELL WELL WELL in relation to hanging.
 
PARLOUR – Slow to begin.
 
Race 5: SKY RACING BM70 HCP – 1660M
 
THE IRONS – Blundered shortly after the start. Raced wide in the early stages until obtaining a position one off the fence at the 900m.
 
GROUP THINK – Inconvenienced shortly after the start.
 
MOSSHIKI – Slow to begin.
 
SILESIAN - Inconvenienced shortly after the start.
 
ROYAL SHEEN – Steadied when inconvenienced shortly after the start.
 
CENTENARY STAR – Apprentice K Wilson-Taylor reported that his mount put in an awkward stride in the home straight and as a result, he elected not to place his mount under further pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer G Heinrich was advised that CENTENARY STAR would have to barrier trial prior to its next start.
 
Race 6: CAIRNS AMATEURS CARNIVAL C4 HCP – 1200M
 
MR SO AND SO – Near the 300m became awkwardly placed and had to be steadied from heels.
 
DIXON BAY – Laid out rounding the first turn and attempted to savage another runner. When questioned rider J Orman could offer no explanation for the performance of DIXON BAY, however mentioned the horse often shows a much better performance when racing second up. Trainer G Heinrich was advised that a warning would be placed on the manners of DIXON BAY.
 
BROKEN HERO – Slow to begin.
 
KING’S RULE – Steadied from heels and taken wider rounding the first turn when DIXON BAY laid out and BROKEN HERO shifted in.
 
MOTHER’S DAY – Taken in on jumping.
 
BIZOU – Severely checked on jumping.
 
FISH ON – Shifted out on jumping.
 
Race 7: SPIRIT OF BOOM BM65 HCP – 1350M
 
FEW TOO MANY – When questioned regarding the performance rider R Wiggins stated that his mount overraced early and was unable to finish off its race with the heavy weight FEW TOO MANY had to carry today.
 
ISSAQUAH – Slow to begin.
 
KARLSTAD – Change of tactics – To be ridden in the second half of the field; settled accordingly. Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
BIGGIE – When questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer A Sawden stated that in his opinion, the horses form has been satisfactory other than its most recent start, which he felt could be explained by the gelding being obliged to race three wide without cover and is questionable at the distance of 1500m. Trainer Sawden was further questioned regarding the tactics adopted in that the horse lead in today’s event. He stated that the horse has a tendency of being slow to begin and as at its most recent start he has always had the intention to have the horse ridden in a forward position, however had not specifically instructed jockey El’Issa to lead in the event. Stewards accepted the explanation.

YU LONG SHENG HUI – Forced wider passing the 700m.
 
Race 8: TAB VENUE MODE BM65 HCP – 1100M
 
ALL STARS – Apprentice L Kilner reported that ALL STARS may have resented racing in earmuffs and she recommended to connections that they remove that piece of gear.
 
AZZAREACH – Steadied from heels when overracing near the 700m. Raced greenly rounding the home turn. Inconvenienced near the 200m when VAPORZING shifted in to obtain clear running.
 
FAMILY STAR – Slow to begin. Raced wide with no cover throughout.
 
NORM’S CHOICE – Overraced in the middle stages.
 
MISS BARTY – Raced wide throughout.
 
VAPORIZING – Tightened and lost ground on jumping. Rider R Maloney reported to stewards that his intentions were to be positive on VAPORIZING however after suffering this interference, he was forced to race at the tail of the field. Jockey R Maloney was questioned regarding his tactics in the home straight in that he directed his mount to the inside of FAMILY STAR, which resulted in his mount contacting AZZAREACH, when it appeared there may have been opportunity to obtain clear running to the outside of FAMILY STAR. Jockey Maloney explained that as VAPORIZING was finishing the race off strongly, he was obliged to make a decision quickly and at the time did not feel that either option was more advantageous, however, accepted that with hindsight, he would have been better served shifting out as FAMILY STAR commenced to lay in shortly after his decision to shift back to the inside. After considering the video footage, Stewards were satisfied with jockey Maloney’s explanation.
 
CHICADILLY – Hung out from the 800m. Raced wide throughout. Rider M Du Plessis stated that his mount was inclined to lay out throughout the event and may have resented its tongue tie. Trainer H Page indicated that should potentially experiment with CHICADILLY’S gear prior to its next start.
 
SONGZILLA - Became awkward in its action when placed in restricted room by OAKFIELD GERONIMO (Apprentice M Wishart) passing the 800m. Apprentice M Wishart was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.  Became awkward in its action after racing in restricted room near the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed some minor abrasions to the inside of the off hock. Rider M McGillivray reported that he was of the opinion that the gelding did not breath properly throughout the event and this had a detrimental affect on the horses performance.
