Stewards approved the following over-weights:

Race 1: BRC MEMBERSHIP ON SALE NOW QTIS Two-Year-Old
Handicap 1350 metres
 
TRANSATLANTIC – Leaving the 800m, laid out whilst over racing and clipped the heels of POWER OF THE BRAVE resulting in the colt blundering.
 
POWER OF THE BRAVE – Jockey A. Mallyon advised Stewards at scale it wasn’t his intention to have raced in the forward position however with the small field and the gelding beginning well, he elected to take up the position outside the leader.
 
RIDE FOR LUCK – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SHOWDRA – Began awkwardly.
 
JACK'S BOOM – Over raced during the middle stages. Forced wide leaving the 600m when TRANSATLANTIC shifted out to improve.
 
 
Race 2: GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB Class 3 Plate 1600 metres
 
The start of this event was delayed owing to SEEFELD having to undergo a pre-race veterinary examination behind the barriers after casting a near fore plate and standing on a nail en route to the barriers. The gelding was subsequently declared a late scratching at 12:18pm on veterinary advice.
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on SEEFELD to be refunded with the following deductions to be applied to successful bets:
1ST HECTOR DE MARIS 3c win, 7c place
2nd EAGLEMONT 4c place
3rd AQUA ALTA 6c place
 
AQUA ALTA – Over raced during the early stages. Had a tendency to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
 
KINETIC – Began awkwardly causing the rider to become unbalanced and as a result the mare settled at the tail of the field. Whilst over racing, shifted in at the 1100m and brushed the rail. Approaching the 250m improved onto heels. When asked to comment, jockey R. Maloney stated the mare wanted to hang in during the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to a soft 5.
 
Race 3: CASCADE BENCHMARK 72 Handicap 2000 metres
 
The start of this event was delayed owing to READILY AVAILABULL having to undergo a pre-race veterinary examination behind the barriers due to having its off hind become cast in the barriers for a significant amount of time. The gelding was subsequently declared a late scratching at 1:00pm on veterinary advice.
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on READILY AVAILABULL be refunded with the following deductions to be applied to successful bets:
1st ATLANTIC EAGLE 11c win, 14c place.
2nd CARBONETTI 12c place
3rd COLLEAGUES 8c place
 
OUR REBEL – Began awkwardly and bumped GOT THE LOT. Raced wide in the early stages until the 1200m. Leaving the 600m, raced in restricted room and was momentarily steadied when placed between CARBONETTI and COLLEAGUES. Had a tendency to lay out leaving the 500m.
 
GOT THE LOT – Hampered at the start and lost ground.
 
NO MORE RED – Shifted out on jumping. Laid out rounding home turn. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.  
 
WINSTON BLUE – Stewards accepted the reasons for the late declaration of rider for the gelding. Trainer N. Hocking advised a change of tactics, with WINSTON BLUE to be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. After being slow to begin, settled at the rear end of the field. Raced wide until the 1500m.  
 
FLENSBURG – Lost a near fore plate in running.
 
 
Race 4: XXXX DRY Fillies and Mares BENCHMARK 78 Handicap 1200 metres
 
SELF INDULGENT – At the 300m had to be steadied when placed in restricted room between INASEC which shifted out and TYPHOON TAAVI which laid in. R. Maloney, rider of INSAEC was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
STAR SPIRIT – Hampered after start and lost ground. Leaving the 100m improved onto heels and shifted out brushing MYSTIC AROMA. Lost a near fore plate in running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed to have suffered a severe injury to its off-hind hock. The mare was subsequently euthanised on humane grounds.
 
CANADIAN DANCER – Over raced in the early stages. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey B. Thompson reported that the mare travelled well throughout, however was one paced when asked for its finishing effort, he further added that the mare may be looking for an increase in distance.
 
ZOUKINA – Slow to begin.
 
INASEC – Held up rounding the home turn. Shifted out approaching the 300m and brushed SELF INDULGENT.
 
TYPHOON TAAVI – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Laid in during the home straight.
 
BEDFORD SQUARE (NZ) – Slow to begin. Improved onto heels approaching the 500m.
 
MYSTIC AROMA – Bumped after start. At the 50m, brushed by STAR SPIRIT.
 
Race 5: SKY RACING QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap 1350 metres
 
Correct weight was delayed owing to the connections of MENARI MAGIC wishing to view the photo finish image after being placed 5th by the judge. Stewards after also viewing the available images where satisfied with the judge’s placings and correct weight was declared on the numbers semaphored by the Judge.
 
SAILOR'S SECRET – Raced wide throughout. Inconvenienced and carried wider approaching the 900m. When questioned regarding her riding of the gelding, Apprentice Graham advised that she was hopeful of obtaining a forward position with cover, however when a number of runners improved to her inside in the early stages, she elected to take hold in an effort to obtain a position with cover. She further added that when the tempo of the event steadied approaching the 1000m the gelding commenced to over race, and she was unable to obtain a position with cover resulting in SAILOR’S SECRET racing wide for the majority of the event. Stewards noted the comments of Apprentice Graham.
 
SPOOKY SPIRIT – Began awkwardly. At the 800m, placed in restricted room and had to be steadied from the heels of PORKY which shifted in when over racing.
 
PORKY – Became awkward at the heels of SPOOKY SPIRIT approaching the 1250m had to be steadied. Approaching the 900m, improved onto heels when the pace of the race steadied and shifted out. Whilst weakening approaching the 400m, had to be steadied and carried wider by COUNT THE BEANS which shifted out to improve. R. Maloney, rider of COUNT THE BEANS was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
Race 6: LADBROKE IT! Class 6 Plate 1350 metres
 
AZZAREACH – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
MATOWATAKPE – Trainer J. Bruce advised a change of tactics with the gelding to be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. After being slow to begin, settled in a rearward position.
 
THE TYLER – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure during the early stages of the home straight.
 
ARENTEE – Held up rounding the home turn, disappointed for a run leaving the 300m and elected to shift out to secure clear running at the 200m. Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages.
 
BLAZE A TRAIL – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
 
SCOTTISH PRINCE – Raced wide throughout.
 
WOLF MOON – Held up rounding the home turn. Shifted in under pressure over the final 100m.
 
ASHGROVE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced in restricted room approaching the winning post.
 
Race 7: RACECOURSE VILLAGE OPEN Handicap 1110 metres
 
SIMPLY FLY – Slow to begin and hampered shortly afterwards. Approaching the 600m, commenced to over race when being steadied. Approaching the 200m, raced in restricted room and was momentarily steadied.
 
DRAGONSTONE – Began awkwardly.
 
SEA RAIDER – Raced wide throughout. Leaving the 300m, whilst weakening was obliged to steadied from the heels of GOLDSBOROUGH which shifted out to improve.
 
GOLDSBOROUGH (NZ) – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn, leaving the 300m shifted out to secure clear running.
 
SNOWZONE – Raced wide throughout.
 
SNEAKY FIVE – Rider B. Thompson advised Stewards it wasn’t his intention to lead, however after beginning well from the inside draw and no pace shown from outside runners, he elected to stride forward and lead.
 
BOMBASAY – Laid in shortly after the start. Over raced in the early stages.
 
ALL STARS – Raced wide throughout. Bumped rounding the home turn by DRAGONSTONE which shifted out to improve.
 
Race 8: MEKKAFEST 19 AUGUST BENCHMARK 90 Handicap 1600 metres
 
LINTHORPE LAD – Began awkwardly.
 
WAPITI – Trainer G. Duncan was fined $100 pursuant to LR 67(1) for failing to declare a rider within the prescribed time.
 
MISSISSIPPI PRINCE – Began awkwardly.
 
SELEQUE – Held up rounding the home turn and until leaving the 300m.
 
WAIRERE FALLS (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Held up on entrance to the home straight and up until leaving the 100m.
 
HYPE (IRE) – Began awkwardly. Raced wide until the 1100m. Jockey L. Tarrant reported that the gelding over raced for a majority of the event which in his opinion had a detrimental effect on its finishing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
BAANONE (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Momentarily raced in restricted room approaching the 1400m. Held up on entrance to the home straight until leaving the 200m. When asked to comment on the above market performance, co trainer T. Sears advised Stewards that he was confident showing forward and added that although BAANONE (NZ) was beaten into 8th position in its previous start on the 17th of June, the gelding raced without luck and was held up for the majority of the home straight. Stewards noted the comments of co trainer T. Sears.
 
Race 9: TEDDY BEARS PICNIC AT THE RACES Colts, Geldings &
Entires BENCHMARK 78 1200 metres
 
The start of this event was delayed due to SCHILLER BAY undergoing a pre-race veterinary examination behind the barriers.
 
BUGALUGS – Shifted in at the start and made heavy contact with RELEASE THE BEANS and became unbalanced. Raced wide until improving to a position outside the leader leaving the 800m. Apprentice M. Castle was questioned regarding her riding from the 800m point where BUGALUGS improved to the inside of ZARASTRO resulting in both runners increasing their margin on the rest of the field. Apprentice M. Castle stated it wasn’t her intention to set a faster tempo at that point of the event but more so as a result of her horse being difficult to restrain and settle. She further added her horse usually races in a forward position which was her intention, however after beginning awkwardly and becoming unbalanced at the start she was obliged to race wide in the early and middle stages which resulted in the gelding over racing. After reviewing the available footage of that part of the race and Apprentice Castles comments, Stewards accepted the explanation tended. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
MOB BUSTER – Hampered shortly after the start.
 
MOSCINI – Approaching the 150m was obliged to shift inwards after improving onto the heels of the tiring BUGALUGS. Trainer D. Groves was reprimanded pursuant to LR 67(1) for failing to declare a rider within the prescribed time.
 
BROKEN HERO – Jumped outwards at the start and bumped heavily with COLPO DI TAMBURO
 
COLPO DI TAMBURO – Bumped at the start and was severely hampered and lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
RELEASE THE BEANS – Bumped at the start, checked and lost ground.
 
SCHILLER BAY – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
 
ZARASTRO – Lost near hind plate in running.
