SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
Doomben – Saturday 10 February 2024 – Race 6
CLOVER’S PRINCE -Trainer T. Edmonds advised it was now his intention to send the gelding for a spell.
 
DAMO DAYZ – Trainer T. Gollan advised he was satisfied with the manner that the gelding pulled up and will continue with it’s preparation.
 
GENERAL
As Jockey J. Huxtable was absent for acceptable reasons, he was replaced by D. Thornton as the rider of WESTOAK (Race 3) and R. Maloney as the rider of DAWN PARTY (Race 4) and PATTON (Race 6).
 
Prior to the running of Race 1, the track was upgraded to a Good 4 at 12:07pm.

Race 7: 5:45pm
Race 8: 6:10pm
 
Race 1: STRADBROKE SEASON ON SALE NOW QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200 M
 
EXPLOSIVE TYCOON – Raced greenly in the early stages. Raced wide until approaching the 700m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
PUMICESTONE ROAD – Bumped shortly after the start. Approaching the 700m, had to be steadied from the heels of EXPLOSIVE TYCOON which laid in when racing greenly. Jockey J. Orman was advised to exercise greater care when crossing.
 
VANGUARD LEGEND – Slow to begin. Over raced in the early stages.
 
HARLEY CHARLIE – Hampered at the start and lost ground.
 
APPELLANT – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
 
LADY BOSSA NOVA – Trainer K. Kemp was reprimanded pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider within the prescribed time. Raced wide throughout.
 
CHAMPAGNE ROUGE – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped MISHY and became unbalanced.
 
MISHY – Trainer R. Tyrell was reprimanded pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider within the prescribed time. Bumped at the start. Over raced in the early stages when attempting to be restrained to a position with cover. Near the 700m, improved onto the heels of PUMICESTONE ROAD when that runner was steadied, shifted wider then raced wide without cover for the remainder of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have a wart on the side of its mouth which may have contributed to it getting its head up in running.
 
Race 2: BECOME A BRC MEMBER QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE        1110 M
 
AITUTAKI – Began awkwardly.
 
BUCKS FIZZ – Bumped at the start.
 
CYBERWARS – Slow to begin.
 
DENIM DESERT – Over raced in the early stages when being restrained to find cover. Raced three wide with cover.  
 
PHYLISS – Trainer R. Tyrell was reprimanded pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider within the prescribed time. Slow to begin.
 
SHEZAJUKE – Laid in rounding the home turn.
 
TRAPEDO – Shifted out at the start and bumped BUCKS FIZZ. Held up entering the home straight. Approaching the 200m, improved onto the heels of SHEZAJUKE and had to be steadied. Held up for clear running until approaching the 100m.
 
Race 3: SKY RACING QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1110 M
 
KAIROS LOUIE (NZ) – Shifted in shortly after the start and bumped NATIVE BEAUTY. Over raced in the middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight obliging its rider to stop and correct on a number of occasions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
MEAN APPROACH – Began awkwardly. Raced wide.
 
BETTERSAIDTHANDONE – Slow to begin. Raced greenly throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
CAXTON LASS – Raced wide.
 
COURAGEOUS GAL – Bumped at the start. Over raced in the early stages.
 
NATIVE BEAUTY – Shifted in at the start and bumped COURAGEOUS GAL, a short distance later was bumped by KAIROS LOUIE (NZ) and lost ground.
 
Race 4: CASCADE MAIDEN PLATE     1630 M
 
AMERICAN PHIREBALL – Approaching the 250m, improved onto heels before shifting wider.
 
DAWN PARTY – Passing the 300m, shifted in and away from HAYAKU which laid in.
 
DISCOVER (NZ) – Shortly after the start was bumped by HAYAKU. Near the 1400m, raced in restricted room and had to be steadied. Raced wide.
 
GRAND ACADEMY – Shifted in at the start and bumped HAYAKU. Raced wide.
 
HAYAKU – Bumped after the start. Near the 1400m, shifted in and away from DAWN PARTY. Momentarily laid in near the 300m.
 
BLISS MISS – Near the 1250m when racing keenly, improved onto heels, steadied and shifted out momentarily.
 
CAESAR CAKE – Slow to begin.
 
FIDDLER ONTHE ROOF – Held up for clear running until approaching the 100m.
 
WORTHY'S GIRL – Shortly after the start was bumped by AUTORA.
 
AUTORA – Began awkwardly and was hampered a short distance later.
 
Race 5: GIRLS DAY OUT 2 MARCH BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP    1630 M
 
GRECIAN LASS – Approaching the 1300m whilst racing keenly, had to be steadied from the heels of HADOUKEN which shifted in. Apprentice J. Franklin was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. Raced keenly in the middle stages when the pace slackened.
 
DIACO – Bumped at the start.
 
COSMIC GOSSIP – Over raced in the early stages. Inclined to lay in entering the home straight.
 
ALDEENAARY (IRE) – Bumped at the start. Carried wider between the 250m and 100m when SPEED MAP laid out.
 
NO MORE RED – Raced wide in the early stages. Momentarily hampered near the 300m when COSMIC GOSSIP laid in.
 
SPEED MAP – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped ALDEENAARY (IRE). Laid out considerably when placed under pressure in the home straight. Jockey A. Allen was strongly advised to stop and straighten his mount in similar circumstance.
 
NIPPA'S NIGHTCAP – Slow to begin. Over raced leaving the 700m when the pace slackened.
 
Race 6: 390 QTIS YEARLINGS @ MM MARCH CLASS 5 HANDICAP  1350 M
 
PRIME ASSET – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Over raced for a significant distance over the early and middle stages due to a moderate tempo. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight and again approaching the 200m.
 
OLYMPIC CLASS - Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after making contact with a rail exiting the parade area; the gelding was subsequently cleared to start. Began awkwardly and shifted in. Raced wide. Inclined to lay in entering the home straight obliging its rider to stop and correct his mount.
 
PATTON – Hampered at the start.
 
MAXCALEMMA – Hampered at the start. Held up rounding the home turn. Had difficulty obtaining clear running between the 300m until leaving the 100m.
 
THIS'LLBETHEONE – Held up rounding the home turn. Had difficulty obtaining clear running between the 250m until the 100m.
 
ZOUKINA – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination upon arrival due to blood present in the mare’s off-side nostril. Subsequently, ZOUKINA was declared a late scratching at 3:02pm on veterinary advice. Trainer S. Lee was advised the mare would require veterinary clearance inclusive of an endoscopic scope prior to resuming.
 
KING OF THE DESERT – After passing the finishing line, appeared to clip heels, blundered, dislodging its rider. After being initially assessed by the club doctor and QAS personnel, Jockey W. D’ Avila was transported to hospital for further observations. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding was lame in its off-fore leg. Trainer B. Ahrens was advised KING OF THE DESERT would require veterinary clearance prior to resuming. Stewards after taking initial evidence from riders in the vicinity of the incident adjourned the matter to a time and date to be fixed.
 
WHISTLING SPIRIT– Began awkwardly and shifted out. Raced wide.
 
Race 7: XXXX GOLD BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP         2030 M
 
The start of this race was delayed and rescheduled to 5:45pm due to an incident at Race 6.
 
TWICE ON SUNDAY – Carried wider rounding the home turn when HAROLD THE GREAT (NZ) shifted out to improve.
 
ROYAL RIFT (IRE) – Jockey J. Orman reported it was not his intention to settle in a forward position.
 
MOTELL – Slow to begin. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, commenced to race keenly and became awkward in its action for a number of strides.
 
BADER – Forced wider at the 1100m.
 
FOUR O'CLOCK KNOCK (NZ) – Laid in under pressure over the final 100m.
 
SHEZADANDI – Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight.
 
LEERY – Shifted in at the start and bumped KINGSTAR BULLET.
 
KINGSTAR BULLET – Bumped and lost ground on jumping.
 
Race 8: LADBROKES MATES MODE BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP    1200 M
 
Race 8 amended start time – 6:10pm.
 
BOWRIDER – Fractious before the start and began awkwardly. Approaching the 250m, was disappointed for a run and had to be steadied before shifting in at the 200m to secure clear running.
 
BILLY'S BRO – Hampered shortly after the start.
 
REGAL EDITION – Slow to begin. Approaching the 50m, had to be steadied from the heels of HIDDEN EYES which shifted in under pressure. Apprentice M. Castle was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for permitting her mount to shift in.
 
FUMIKO – Bumped at the start.
 
ROSE OF SHIRAZ – Shifted in at the start and bumped FUMIKO.
 
DESERT MIST – Near the 600m, improved onto heels and shifted out.
 
SHAPIN POWER – Trainer C. Munce was fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider within the prescribed time. Slow to begin. Raced ungenerously in the early stages.
