SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
IPSWICH 09/03/24
Race 1:  SISTINE CHAPEL - Trainer J. Bellamy reported that subsequent tests following the mares disappointing performance revealed no apparent abnormalities, and it is his intention to continue with SISTENE CHAPEL’S preparation.

GENERAL

Race 1: STRADBROKE SEASON ON SALE NOW MAIDEN HANDICAP   1110 M
 
HERECOMESANTORINI – Began awkwardly. Over raced during the middle stages. When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, jockey M. Du Plessis reported that the gelding weakened from the 600m and was disappointing in its efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery.
 
BEAULINE – Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
Race 2: RACECOURSE VILLAGE BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP         1660 M
 
COMMODUS– Change of tactics – attempt to settle further forwards. Ridden accordingly.
 
SELLING SUNSET– Passing the 300m, was momentarily eased from the heels of SACRED FEELING (NZ), who shifted out to improve.
MARTEDI – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Over raced in the early stages. Shifted out approaching the 500m and bumped VALLEY’S SISTER resulting in MARTEDI becoming awkward in its action momentarily.
 
SACRED FEELING (NZ) – Began awkwardly and lost ground. When asked to comment on todays’ performance, jockey R. Maloney stated that in his opinion the mare was not suited by the slow tempo of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer T. Gollan advised that on arrival back at the stables post-race, the mare was scoped and showed no abnormalities.
 
VALLEY'S SISTER– Bumped at the 500m by MARTEDI who shifted out to improve. Laid out approaching the 400m.
 
Race 3: SKY RACING QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1200 M
 
AIKAU (NZ) – Sustained a minor laceration to its near hindleg. Underwent a pre-race veterinary inspection upon arrival at the barriers and was cleared to race. Leaving the 300m, momentarily hampered when awkwardly placed on the heels of ALPHA BRAVO, which shifted out slightly.
 
ALPHA BRAVO – Bumped at the start. Near the 300m was bumped and shifted wider when RUN LUCY RUN shifted out to improve.
 
BARNACUS – Hampered at the start.
 
GIVE ME SPACE – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 700m, was obliged to steady when crowded for room by AIKAU (NZ), which shifted in. Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester was reprimanded pursuant AR 131(a) for shifting ground when insufficiently clear. Near the 500m, raced keenly for a short distance.
 
WAYFARER'S WAY – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
CHAMPAGNE RIVER –Began awkwardly and shifted in, bumping BARNACUS. Near the 500m, when racing greenly, shifted in. Jockey R. Maloney reported that the filly proved difficult to steer during the event, which he attributed to CHAMPAGNE RIVER getting its tongue over the bit. Trainer D. Vandyke advised that he would trial the filly, with the addition of a tongue tie prior to racing again. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
PRIDE OF VENUS – Began awkwardly and shifted out, bumping BARNACUS. Raced greenly for the majority. In the vicinity of the 900m, raced ungenerously for a short distance when the pace of the race slackened. Leaving the 600m, when racing greenly, steadied away from the heels of WAYFARER’S WAY and lost ground. Approaching the 500m, momentarily steadied again from the heels of WAYFARER’S WAY which laid in before being corrected. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer B. Healy was advised that the filly would now be required to trial satisfactorily, prior to resuming.
 
RUN LUCY – Began awkwardly and shifted out bumping ALPHA BRAVO.
 
Race 4: MAGIC MILLIONS NATIONAL SALE ENTRIES OPEN CLASS 1 PLATE         1660 M
 
BITOFTHEBLARNEY (NZ) – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Held up approaching the home turn.
 
BLUMSTIEN – Leaving the 1000m, jockey M. Rodd elected to leave a rearward trailing position, when the pace slackened and reached a position outside the leader near the 800m.
 
PAUJI POWER – Laid in when placed under pressure over the final 250m.
 
POWER GLIDER – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Carried wider rounding the home turn when PAUJI POWER shifted out.

Race 5: OPERA QLD REGIONAL TOUR AT EF MAIDEN PLATE 1660 M
 
DISCOVER (NZ) – Change of tactics- to be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. Slow into stride and settled midfield with cover. Jockey R. Maloney reported that the gelding raced flat and was disappointing when asked for an effort in today’s event.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
SHAMUKA – Over raced during the early stages.
 
I'M PHYSICAL (NZ) – Laid in, in the home straight.
 
THE HINDUSTAN (NZ) – Caught wide early, before being allowed to stride forward and reached a position outside of the leader approaching the 1000m. Near the 300m, laid in when placed under pressure. Near the 200m, steadied from the heels of HATASU, which shifted in.
 
DREAM PASSAGE (NZ) – Passing the 300m, when improving, had to be steadied from the heels of THE HINDUSTAN (NZ), which laid in.

SMOKIN' DE QUO– Leaving the 200m shifted in and contacted the running rail, becoming unbalanced for several strides.
 
HATASU – Over raced during the middle stages.
 
 
Race 6: CASCADE QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1200 M
 
IT'S RAINING AGAIN – Laid in passing the 300m.
 
JONNY DA WOLF (NZ) – Change of tactics - to be ridden off the pace. Jockey J. Orman reported that the gelding felt awkward in its action in the home straight. Settled back of midfield. Over raced early. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
MEAN APPROACH – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight. Laid in when placed under pressure.
 
FIND MY CALM – Near the 800m, was obliged to steady from heels when the speed of the race slackened.
 
TOROS – Shifted in abruptly on jumping, making heavy contact with RUMBLING AWAY. Raced wide. Raced ungenerously over the middle stages of the event. Jockey E. Chaves reported that his mount was inclined to lay in throughout and proved to be disappointing in it finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
READY AND LUCKY – Jockey A. Jones was charged and pleaded guilty pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that she used her whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m and was fined $400.
 
EASTOWN – Hampered on jumping away.
 
GRAPE EXPECTATIONS – Shortly after the start, was heavily contacted on the hindquarters and became unbalanced. Raced wide.
 
RISK ASSESSMENT – Jockey M. Rodd reported that his mount was disappointing when asked for an effort over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
RUMBLING AWAY – Contacted heavily at the start when TOROS shifted in and lost ground. Approaching the 200m, improved onto the heels of the tiring RISK ASSESSMENT and as a result shifted out to secure clear running.
 
 
Race 7: XXXX CLASS 2 HANDICAP     1350 M
 
HYDE PARK – Slow to begin.
 
PORT MOURANT – Restrained from a wide barrier to gain a position closer to the rail.
 
SIMPLY REFUSE – Change of tactics - to be ridden with cover. Ridden accordingly.
 
TIGER FOR LIFE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Approaching the finishing line, raced in restricted room to the inside of QUADRI (NZ), which laid in.
 
 
Race 8: LADBROKES MATES MODE BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP (4YO ONLY QTIS BONUSES APPLICABLE)    1200 M
 
SMYTZER–Had difficulty obtaining clear running between the 300m and the 200m.
 
KAT CHINNA – Laid out over the concluding stages.
 
BUNGARRIBEE LAD– Shifted out on jumping away, hampering HOOT ‘N’ HOLLER.
 
EN POINTE– Held up rounding the home turn until a point approaching the 250m. Obliged to alter course near the 100m to obtain clear running.
 
MINKS STAR– Jockey M. Rodd reported that the mare raced keenly over the middle stages. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
 
POLE POSITION– Laid in approaching the 200m, obliging its rider to stop riding and straighten his mount. Continued to lay in over the concluding stages. Apprentice B. Wheeler was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(5) in that he used his whip fifteen times in totality.
 
TYPHOON TAAVI – When asked to comment on the mare’s performance, jockey A. Jones stated that she was satisfied considering TYPHOON TAAVI was first up from a spell and endured a hard run outside of the leader. Near the 50m, steadied from the heels of KAT CHINNA, which laid out slightly.
 
HOOT 'N' HOLLER – Hampered at the start and settled back in the field. Over raced early. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running between the 300m and 100m.
 
HE KNOWS – Raced wide through the middle stages. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
