SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

23/12/24 Doomben Trials
 
Trail 19: On 29th of May 2025, Stewards inquired into a report of an alleged incident in a trial at Doomben on the 23rd of December 2024. After hearing evidence, reviewing audio and footage, Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that a riding offence had occurred between PORT RIVER BILLIE (K. Wilson- Taylor) and UNDER SUSPICION (D. Thornton,) however reminded riders to ride in a manner that would not compromise safety to both rider and animal.
 
07/06/26 – Eagle Farm
 
Race 7: PAYLINE -Trainer’s representative N. Boyle reported that following the disappointing performance in the Kingsford Smith Cup, PAYLINE underwent a veterinary examination on return to the stable which found no abnormalities. He further added that the gelding had been pleasing in its work this week and as such has accepted for The Star Stradbroke Handicap.

GENERAL
 
Trainer K. Stabe was fined $200 under to LR 36(6)(a) for failing to scratch dual acceptor ARGENT EMPYREAN by the prescribed time.
 
Trainer D. Forster was fined $200 under LR67(1) for the late declaration of G. Cartwright as the rider of BETTCHA THE CROWN in Race 7.
 
As Apprentice C. Collis was unable to make the allocated weight in Race 5 and Race 8, he was replaced as per the race day summary. Apprentice C. Collis was fined $400 pursuant to AR 190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight.
 


Race 1: BECOME A BRC MEMBER QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE        1200 M
 
The start of this event was delayed approximately 2 mins owing to GYPSY WISH contacting the rail when leaving the mounting yard and undergoing a veterinary examination behind the barriers. Trainer N. Luke was advised that a warning would be placed on GYPSY WISH in relation to its pre-race manners.
 
LYNEHAM - Raced wide.
 
SPOT THE AUSSIE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
SUMMATION – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Over-raced in the middle stages. Passing the 500m, was hampered and carried wider by ASTERN EFFORT, which shifted out in an attempt to improve. Raced wide.
 
CRASH THE PARTY – Began awkwardly.
 
GYPSY WISH – Began awkwardly. Raced wide
 
READY FOR AIMEE - Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages to the inside of CRASH THE PARTY which shifted in under riding. Jockey J. Lloyd the rider of CRASH THE PARTY was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding.
 
CARAMELFUDGESUNDAE – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Over-raced in the early and middle stages. When asked to comment on the performance of CARAMELFUDGESUNDAE, Jockey C. Williams reported the filly over-raced and was green throughout and when placed under pressure did not let down as expected. He further added, that in his opinion, CARAMELFUDGESUNDAE would derive benefit from today’s run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have a minor abrasion to its tongue and speedy cuts.
 
ASTERN EFFORT – Passing the 600m was disappointed for a run when attempting to shift out to improve. Lost its off-hind plate.
 
Race 2: TATTERSALLS TIARA RACEDAY 28 JUNE MAIDEN PLATE 1200 M

ARGENT EMPYREAN – Bumped heavily with DARE TO LOVE shortly after the start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
LUCIFER'S WAY – Jockey R. Maloney reported that his mount travelled well throughout the event but failed to quicken when placed under pressure in the home straight.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying signs of a slow recovery. Trainer D. Vandyke reported that upon return to the saddling enclosure, he noted that LUCIFERS WAY had gotten its tongue over the bit and advised that it was his intention to add a tongue tie to its gear next start.
 
CLIODHNA MAEVE (NZ) – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
DARE TO LOVE – Buffeted at the start between CLIODHNA MAEVE (NZ) and ARGENT EMPYREAN. Laid in for the majority of the event. Jockey L. Tilley reported that his mount felt awkward in its action over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
VALENCIA ROC (NZ) – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SUPIDO ROSE – Slow to begin.
 
ANTILLES GOLD – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
Race 3: THE STAR STRADBROKE SEASON QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP       1200 M
 
The start of this event was delayed approximately 3 mins owing to SCHEHERAZADEbecoming fractious enroute to barriers.

CHIEF IN CHARGE – Began awkwardly, shifted out and contacted SKORPIOS ISLE resulting in CHIEF IN CHARGE momentarily becoming unbalanced and having its hindquarters turned inwards.
 
TEN GOOD REASONS (NZ) – Jockey M. Rodd reported at scale that his mount was inclined to hang in throughout. Over-raced early. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
WILIAMTHECONQUEROR – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and was unable to be tested at any point in the race.
 
SCHEHERAZADE – Passing the 800m, had to be steadied after improving to the inside of WELLY, which shifted out shortly after being crossed before being directed back in.
 
RUNAWAY TYCOON – Passing the 800m, raced in restricted room for a short distance to the inside of BOOM BREAK, which was attempting to shift in.

CHAMPAGNE PROBLEMS - Began awkwardly, shifted in and contacted SKORPIOS ISLE resulting in CHAMPAGNE PROBLEMS momentarily becoming unbalanced and having its hindquarters turned outwards.
 
SKORPIOS ISLE - Hampered at the start and lost ground.
 
Apprentice B. Wheeler reported upon return to scale that his mount was heavily contacted on the way back to the mounting yard by BELLA SPIRITO and as a result Apprentice B. Wheeler was experiencing some neck discomfort. Apprentice B. Wheeler was examined by the club doctor and cleared to fulfil his remaining riding engagements.

Race 4: XXXX GOLD QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP       1350 M

ITALIAN RIVIERA – Began awkwardly. Laid in over the concluding stages.
 
MAYNE – Race wide.
 
MR O'REILLY – Bumped shortly after the start. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight until approaching the 200m.
 
DARK GLEAM – Raced in restricted room for a short distance passing the 300m between CAISHEN and MARAGICAL.

PROMINENT LAD – Held up for a short distance passing the 200m and over the final 150m was unable to improve after becoming awkwardly placed at heels.
 
CAISHEN – Began awkwardly and bumped MR O'REILLY shortly after the start. Raced in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 100m to the inside of MR O'REILLY, which shifted in marginally.
 
LARIDAE – Slow into stride.
 
NOIRE EMPEROR – Began awkwardly and lost ground,
 
Race 5: MULLINS LAWYERS BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP         2060 M

 SIZZLING GAL – Began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly, contacting TAREX (NZ).
 
JEALOUS – Hampered shortly after the start. Near the 1500m, was taken inwards by CANADIAN EXPRESS which was shifting in.
 
CANADIAN EXPRESS – Over-raced in the early stages. Near the 1500m, shifted in, taking JEALOUS who was racing to his inside inwards.
 
BITOFTHEBLARNEY (NZ) – Connections advised of a change of tactics in that BITOFTHEBLARNEY (NZ) will attempt to settle more forward. After beginning awkwardly, settled midfield, three wide without cover.
 
TAREX (NZ) – Bumped shortly after the start by SIZZLING GAL.

FIRE AND LIGHT – Obliged to alter course passing the 200m to improve into clear running.
 
HELL FOLLOWS – Hampered shortly after the start. Near the 1500m, was obliged to be checked and contacted the inside running rail to avoid the heels of JEALOUS who was taken in by CANADIAN EXPRESS. Jockey L. Dempsey, the rider of CANADIAN EXPRESS was charged under AR 131(a) for careless riding for allowing his mount to shift in, taking JEALOUS into the running line of HELL FOLLOWS which contacted the running rail and had to be checked to avoid the heels of JEALOUS. Jockey L. Dempseys license to ride in races was suspended for 11 days, commencing midnight the 14th of June and concluding midnight the 25th of June.
 
MINGARDOS (NZ) – Slow to begin and hampered shortly after the start. Obliged to steady approaching the 1400m after the pace of the race slackened.
 
 
Race 6: WORLD POOL AT EAGLE FARM ON SATURDAY BENCHMARK 75 HANDICAP    1650 M
 
The start of this event was delayed approximately 2 mins owing to JUNGLE JET (NZ) contacting the rail when leaving the mounting yard and undergoing a veterinary examination behind the barriers.
 
CHAYSE 'N' ARTIE – Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
NEW JOY – Approaching the 300m was obliged to alter course after improving onto the heels of NERANO.
 
MENAZZI – Slow to begin.
 
MERCHANT FLYER – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
 
POSEIDON RULER – Raced wide until the 800m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
MISS CHENERY - Held up for clear running for a short distance passing the 250m.
 
 
Race 7: SKY RACING BENCHMARK 85 HANDICAP         1350 M

BETTCHA THE CROWN – Bumped with HYPE (IRE) shortly after the start. Approaching the 950m, was obliged to be restrained and lost its rightful running when awkwardly placed on the heels of INDIFFERENCE, which was carried in by TUFF TU MUS which was carried in by REJOICED which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey L. Tilley the rider of REJOICED was charged under AR 131(a) for careless riding in that approaching the 950m, he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of TUFF TU MUS which as a result carried INDIFFERENCE into the running line of BETTCHA THE CROWN which had to be restrained and lost its rightful run. Jockey L. Tilley’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days commencing midnight the 15th of June and concluding midnight the 26th of June.
 
HYPE (IRE) – Buffeted at the start between HEMAN and BETTCHA THE CROWN and lost ground.
 
REJOICED – Approaching the 950m, shifted in. A post-race veterinary inspection revealed the gelding to be displaying signs of a slow recovery.
 
TUFF TU MUS – Approaching the 950m, was taken in by REJOICED.
 
INDIFFERENCE – Approaching the 950m was obliged to ease to avoid the heels of TUFF TU MUS which was taken in by REJOICED.
 
HEMAN – Began awkwardly and shifted out, bumping HYPE (IRE).
 
On pulling up Jockey G. Cartwright was dislodged from BETTCHA THE CROWN. Jockey G. Cartwright was examined by the club doctor and cleared to fulfil her riding engagements.
 
Race 8: LADBROKES MATES MODE POTS CLASS 1 HANDICAP      1350 M

MISS BUSSLINGER – Raced wide.
 
STARLIGHT NATION (IRE) – Raced wide.
 
NOBLE DECREE (NZ) – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
BLONDE ON BLONDE – Over-raced in the early stages. Had difficulty obtaining clear running passing 200m until the 100m and was obliged to shift out to obtain clear running.
 
SPIRIT OF NURAI – Over-raced in the middle stages and passing the 900m attempted to shift out and contacted MISS BUSSLINGER but was unable to do so and continued to over-race until the 600m.
 
GUNBOAT– Became fractious in the barriers and got its leg up. Underwent a pre-race veterinary inspection and was cleared to start. Raced wide. When asked to comment on the performance of the gelding, Apprentice E. Lang reported that her mount had a tendency to over-race in the early stages and in her opinion would derive benefit from today’s race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
LOCH AWE – Over-raced in the early stages.
 
RANGER ENJAY – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Over-raced for a short distance near the 800m. Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 300m when racing in restricted room to the inside of BLONDE ON BLONDE who was carried in by SIMPLY FUN, which shifted in to improve after being held up. Jockey C. Graham the rider of BLONDE ON BLONDE was advised to exercise great care when improving into a run that was not fully established. Jockey G. Cartwright the rider of SIMPLY FUN was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
