GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following overweights:
Race 4 – B. Wheeler + 1kg
 
As Jockey J. Bayliss was overweight in Race 8, he was subsequently replaced by K. Zechner. Stewards accepted Jockey J. Bayliss’ explanation as it was a transferred race from Doomben 26/7/2025.
 
As Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester was overweight in Race 1, he was subsequently replaced by K. Wilson-Taylor. Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester was fined $200 pursuant to AR 190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight.
 
Jockey G. Cartwright who was declared on an emergency race morning in Race 8, was permitted to be replaced by Apprentice C. Wells.
 
Race 1: RACECOURSE VILLAGE MAIDEN HANDICAP 1110 M

BRAZEN ACT – Laid in during the early part of the home straight before being corrected passing the 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have near hind abrasions, consistent with being galloped on.
 
WINCHMAN – Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight before shifting in, in an attempt to secure clear running. Raced in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 200m.
 
POWER OF SUCCESS – Began awkwardly and bumped with CLIODHNA MAEVE. Raced wide early. Obliged to steady passing the 100m to avoid the heels of SHE’S FASHIONABLE which shifted in to improve. Jockey L. Dempsey rider of SHE’S FASHIONABLE, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. When asked to comment on today’s performance, Jockey L. Tilley stated that his mount proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
SHE'S FASHIONABLE (NZ) – Over raced during the early stages.
 
SMART SHAZZA – Slow to begin.
 
WOOTTEN HYDE – Began awkwardly.
 
CLIODHNA MAEVE (NZ) – Began awkwardly and bumped with POWER OF SUCCESS. Over raced during the early and middle stages. Lost it’s off hind plate.
 
SILVER TAP – Slow to begin.

Race 2: TEDDY BEARS PICNIC 2 AUGUST QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1200 M

ANDERS' STYLE – Began awkwardly. Leaving the 800m, steadied to avoid the heels of QUICKZOU which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey R. Maloney rider of QUICKZOU was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding.
 
EXODAS – Raced wide throughout. Jockey T. Brooker reported at scale that her mount hung out throughout the event.  
 
MELATEN – Raced in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 100m whilst weakening.
 
QUICKZOU – Began awkwardly.
 
LADY TANGALOOMA (NZ) – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
PEARLS IN JUNE – Began awkwardly. Raced wide early.
 
RECONCILIATE – Began awkwardly. Over raced during the early stages. Apprentice E. Lang stated that in recent trials the horse had settled in a forward position and after beginning awkwardly, she was obliged to settle at the rear of the field and in her opinion, this was detrimental to the horse’s finishing efforts. She further added that her mount failed to settle throughout the event. Trainer T. Gollan advised he would report back to Stewards in the days subsequent. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
HUNTER'S MATE – Over raced throughout. Obliged to alter course approaching the 150m.
 
ZARLA – Bumped after start.
 
Race 3: SOUTHS SPORTS CLUB QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1350 M

IMPERIAL RED (NZ) – Raced in restricted room for a short distance passing the 1000m and restrained to avoid the heels of TSZYUYA which shifted in. When asked to comment on today’s performance, Jockey D. Thornton stated that his mount travelled comfortably, although commenced to hang out from the 800m and proved disappointing from that point onwards.  
 
NOIRE EMPEROR – Slow to begin.
 
PRAISE YOU – Lost it’s off-hind plate. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
SLIPSAIN – Slow to begin. Lost it’s off-hind plate.
 
THE ADJUSTA – Raced wide throughout.
 
SHANIDAR – Inconvenienced shortly after the start.
 
TSZYUYA – Bumped heavily on jumping.
 
KISS THE COSMOS (NZ) – Began awkwardly and bumped heavily with TSZYUYA. Made the point of the turn near the 900m awkwardly. Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor reported that he could offer no explanation for today’s disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

Race 4: MEKKA RACEDAY 16 AUGUST COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1350 M

RUSSIAN SUB – Raced greenly in the home straight. Jockey J. Bayliss reported that it wasn’t his intention to lead today’s event, but after beginning well, his mount was reluctant to settle back and therefore he elected to allow his mount to stride forward and take up a leading position.
 
FACUNDO – Began awkwardly.
 
EXCEED SPEED – Began awkwardly. Over raced during the early stages. Approaching the 1000m, shifted out to take up a position one off the fence.
 
FLYWHEEL – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
BARELLO – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
 
NORTH CHANNEL – Contacted passing the 1000m by EXCEED SPEED which shifted out whilst over racing.
 
TURBULENT – Slow to begin.
 
LOCH AWE – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
 
Race 5: COUNTRY MUSIC RACEDAY ON SALE NOW CLASS 1 PLATE 2060 M

The start of this race was delayed approximately 5 minutes after KHANT QUIT (NZ) damaged its bridle whilst making its way to the barriers. Subsequently the bridle had to be replaced and STATE A FACT also had to be resaddled on arrival to the barriers.
 
KHANT QUIT (NZ) – Fractious in the barriers and as a result began awkwardly. Apprentice C. Wells reported that her mount had a tendency to hang out throughout the event and proved difficult to settle.
 
SMELTER (IRE) – Began awkwardly. Passing the 300m, obliged to steady when racing in restricted room between WEONA REDWOOD (NZ) and KHANT QUIT (NZ) which shifted out. Apprentice C. Wells pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) in that passing the 300m, she allowed her mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of SMELTER (R. Thorburn) and as a result, Apprentice R. Thorburn had to restrain his mount to avoid the heels of KHANT QUIT (NZ) and lose his rightful running. Apprentice C. Well’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days, commencing midnight 8/8/2025 up to and including midnight 16/8/2025.
 
TRUMP CARD (NZ) – Lost it’s near fore plate.
 
BOLD BLAZE – Made the first turn awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
CAPTAIN GOOD VIBES – Slow to begin. Jockey D. Peisley was reprimanded pursuant to AR 132(6)(c) for using his whip when his mount is clearly out of contention.
 
MINGARDOS (NZ) – Slow to begin. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on straightening.
 
BONFIDELITY (NZ) – Bumped after the start. Laid out from the 800m and rounding the home turn whilst weakening.
 
ROAD TO PARADISE – Raced in restricted room for a short distance on straightening. Approaching the 200m, became awkwardly placed on heels whilst racing in restricted room. Approaching the 100m was obliged to alter course and shift into clear running to improve.
 
STATE A FACT – Passing the 1400m, steadied when racing in restricted room to the inside of BONFIDELITY which shifted in and away from ROAD TO PARADISE which was shifting into a three wide position.
 
Race 6: XXXX GOLD CLASS 5 HANDICAP 1660 M

NATIONAL CHOICE – Slow to begin.
 
SPORTING CHANCE – Trainer J. Bruce advised a change of tactics – to be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. Raced wide early until approaching the 1000m after restraining to a midfield position.
 
DIANA'S AFFAIR – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
ITZA CHARMDEEL – Jockey A. Mallyon reported that in his opinion the gelding proved disappointing and advised that the stable would look to drop the gelding back in class. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
DRIALLE – Apprentice R. Thorburn reported his mount raced too keenly in front, wasn’t given an easy lead and in his opinion, this was detrimental to the gelding’s finishing effort. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have the thumps.
 
SIAN STAR – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
GOOGAZ – Near the 250m became awkwardly placed at the heels of DRIALLE.
 
WONDERLAND STAR – Held up rounding the home turn until approaching the 150m.
 
Race 7: SKY RACING BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1200 M

LION CLASS – Began awkwardly. Leaving the 600m was disappointed for a run when attempting to shift out to improve.
 
MILTON ROAD (NZ) – Raced wide throughout.
 
YENDY – Began awkwardly.
 
ONE BEAT NO BEAT – Slow to begin.
 
GREAT ASPIRATIONS (NZ) – Jockey R. Maloney stated his mount never travelled comfortably throughout the event and proved disappointing.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
GELATIN – Apprentice E. Lang stated that her mount was first up today from a short spell and would derive benefit from today’s run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
KEY LEGEND – Became awkwardly placed at heels passing the 1000m to avoid the heels of YENDY which shifted out. Raced wide throughout.
 
Race 8: LADBROKES ODDS SURGE QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1350 M

MISTER BIANCO – Began awkwardly and shifted in on jumping. Jockey R. Maloney reported his mount travelled keenly throughout which in his opinion had a detrimental effect on the gelding’s finishing efforts.
 
SAVOUR THE DREAM (NZ) – Began awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to have bled bilaterally on the first occasion. Trainer B. Laming was advised of the provisions of AR 79(4).
 
ESTRONDO – Obliged to alter course on entering the home straight to improve into clear running.
 
TEN GOOD REASONS (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Over raced during the early stages.
 
ZHENG YOU – Raced wide throughout.
 
FIREFORCE – Raced wide throughout. Hampered passing the 200m and having to be restrained to avoid the heels of AQUATIER which shifted in under riding. Jockey K. Zechner rider of AQUATIER was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident.
 
RED FEATHER BOA – Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 400m when racing between AQUATIER and ESTRONDO in an attempt to improve.
 
Race 9: LADBROKES BLACKBOOK FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1350 M

KICKATINALONG – Raced in restricted room for a short distance passing the 1100m to the inside of FLYING SHELLY which shifted in and away from DIVINE GEM.
 
WALSH BAY – Raced wide throughout.
 
NIGHTCAPPED – Apprentice E. Lang reported her mount over raced throughout the event. Trainer J. Bruce advised the mare would now be going for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
SUNNY DISPOSITION – Apprentice B. Wheeler reported his mount never travelled comfortably throughout and proved disappointing.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
SIMPLY AMAZING – Began awkwardly and was bumped shortly after. Raced wide throughout.
 
GAGNANTE ENCHERE – Shifted out on jumping.
 
KAMARIYA – Raced wide throughout.
 
INTRECCIATO – Began awkwardly. Over raced during the early and middle stages.
