GENERAL
As apprentice jockey B. Wheeler was absent through illness, he was replaced as per the Stewards summary.
RACE 1: BECOME A BRC MEMBER BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1600 M
The start of this race was delayed by approximately 2 minutes, owing to the bridle becoming dislodged on LARUSSO en route to the barriers.
CAVALRY MAN – Began Awkwardly. Over-raced in the early and middle stages. On return to scale, Jockey B. Thompson reported that passing the 900m, he allowed his mount to shift wider to improve and take up a leading position as he was not happy with the pace of the race.
DRACENA – Over-raced in the early stages. Passing the 1400m, laid in, becoming awkwardly placed at heels before being corrected. Rider A. Allen reported that his mount raced keen early and was unsuited by the slow tempo, adding that when placed under pressure rounding the home turn, his mount did not let down as expected.
VICTORY FLAME – Apprentice T. Fenlon advised her instructions were to race neutral, however the tempo of the race didn’t suit her mount, which she believed contributed to the gelding not finishing off as well as expected. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
WALSH BAY – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Passing the 250m, had to be corrected after being awkwardly placed at the heels of CAVALRY MAN.
LARUSSO – On arrival at the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
RACE 2: COUNTRY MUSIC RACEDAY 6 SEPTEMBER BENCHMARK 90 HANDICAP 2000 M
ZOOLOGY (GB) – When questioned regarding todays performance, apprentice R. Thorburn was of the opinion that the period of time between runs and today’s firmer surface were detrimental to his mount’s performance. Co-trainer W. Hulbert reported that ZOOLOGY (GB) would be sent for an immediate spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
AGE OF KINGS (IRE) – Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the early stages. Jockey R. Maloney could offer no explanation for today’s performance. Trainer representative B. Killian advised stewards he would report back on the condition of the horse in the coming days. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
THE RIGHT WAY (NZ) – Over-raced in the middle stages. Apprentice E. Lang was cautioned regarding the height of her whip.
EL PENSADOR – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
CONNECTICUT – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid out rounding the turn on entering the home straight. Jockey J. Bayliss was examined by the club doctor following the race and was cleared to ride for the remainder of the day.
BAK DA MAN (NZ) – Over-raced in the early stages. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Rider T. Marshall was cautioned regarding the height of his whip.
RACE 3: MORETON HIRE FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 3 PLATE 1200 M
CERTAINLYCAN – Shifted out on jumping and bumped BRIGHT BLONDE. The representative for trainer T. Gollan reported the mare would likely go for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
ROSE OF SHIRAZ – Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight and was obliged to shift in to obtain clear running.
ZOUTASTIC – Jockey C. Lever reported he was disappointed with his mount’s performance. Trainer T. Croft advised he would report back to stewards regarding the condition of the horse. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
BRIGHT BLONDE – Bumped at the start.
SURPRISE HONEY – Shifted in on jumping. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
JEMOMA ALPILAGE – Began awkwardly.
RACE 4: SPRING CARNIVAL ON SALE NOW FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 6 HANDICAP 1350 M
OVERRIDING – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
CATAHOULA – Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight until approaching the 200m. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
SIMPLY AMAZING – Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the middle stages. Approaching the 1000m had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of YENDY. Momentarily held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
CINQUE TERRE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Apprentice E. Lang reported her mount began awkwardly and raced fairly, however failed to respond to her riding when entering the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
ONE BEAT NO BEAT – Laid out rounding the turn passing the 600m.
RACE 5: DRINKWISE QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1350 M
BENEFITSOFMINE – Shifted in on jumping and bumped BRITANNIA ROSE.
GO MARO – Shifted out on jumping and bumped STYLISH JOKER. Became awkwardly placed on heels passing the 1200m and had to be steadied. Raced wide in the early stages before taking up a leading position passing the 700m. Apprentice E. Lang reported that in her opinion the gelding over-raced in the early and middle stages and failed to finish the event off. She added that after GO MARO commenced to weaken noticeable, she elected to not place her mount under pressure in the closing stages. Trainer K. Kemp advised it would be the intention for the gelding to go for a spell and on return to stables, would be examined by a veterinarian with any findings to be reported to stewards in the coming days. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
STYLISH JOKER – Bumped at the start. Hampered shortly after the start when racing in restricted room.
WANTED HILLBILLY – Began awkwardly. Raced three-wide without cover throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
BRITANNIA ROSE – Bumped at the start and slow to begin.
AUSTRALASIA – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Passing the 200m attempted to improve into a run where there was insufficient room to do so, and as a result, became awkwardly placed at heels for a considerable distance over the final 100m. When questioned regarding tactics adopted over the final 200m, Jockey S. Rutledge reported that on straightening, she positioned her mount on the back of BRITANNIA ROSE, but after that filly failed to take her into the event, commenced to shift out approaching the 200m, however when doing so, IDYLLIC AFFAIR improved to a position outside of BRITANNIA ROSE, resulting in her mount being held up for a considerable distance. When questioned if there was an opportunity to shift to the outside of IDYLLIC AFFAIR passing the 200m, she stated that she was concerned of a runner to the outside of IDYLLIC AFFAIR and rather than shift to the outside of that runner, persisted to obtain the run between BRITTANIA ROSE and IDYLLIC AFFAIR. She further added that in hindsight, after viewing the patrol films, she should have endeavored to shift out to the outside of IDYLLIC AFFAIR when the opportunity arose.
CYBER CITY – When questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer D. Murphy advised that following the geldings disappointing performance at Ipswich first up in this preparation, whereby CYBER CITY raced wide throughout the event, the gelding had pleased in its work up to today. He further advised that his only concern was after the gelding failed to obtain cover in the early stages of todays event, that CYBER CITY had a tendency to over-race, but the expectation is that the gelding will continue to settle in a forward position throughout the remainder of this preparation. Stewards noted this explanation.
RACE 6: RADIO METRO COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES CLASS 3 PLATE 1200 M
ALDOLFITO – Hampered on jumping and slow to begin. Carried wider on the track approaching the 700m.
TRYANZA – Began awkwardly.
ESTRONDO – Slow to begin. Approaching the 700m, after improving on to the heels of the THEBLADE, shifted wider carrying ALDOLFITO and RHUVAAL wider on the track.
JOPPA LANE - On arrival at the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
OUROBOROS – Began awkwardly.
RHUVAAL – Approaching the 600m, when carried wider on the track, became awkwardly placed on the heels of ALDOLFITO for a short distance.
ROYAL COMMODORE – Leaving the 800m, had to be checked to avoid the heels of TRYANZA (M. Hellyer) which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey M. Hellyer (TRYANZA) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that passing the 800m, jockey M. Hellyer allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of ROYAL COMMODORE, which as a result, had to check and lose its rightful running. M. Hellyer’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of nine (9) days pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding, commencing midnight 24/08/2025 until midnight 02/09/2025. Over-raced in the middle stages. Approaching the 200m, held up for clear running on the heels of the weakening TRYANZA and as a result, had to shift in to improve into clear running.
TRUE AMOR – Began awkwardly.
THEBLADE – Shifted out on jumping. Hampered when racing in restricted room passing the 800m to the inside of ROYAL COMMODORE which was carried in by TRYANZA which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight, Approaching the 200m was obliged to shift in to obtain clear running, but shortly thereafter became awkwardly placed on the heels of JOPPA LANE, resulting in THEBLADE having to shift closer to the rail passing the 100m.
RACE 7: SKY RACING OPEN HANDICAP 1200 M
STEADY READY – Shifted out on jumping. Over-raced in the early stages. Apprentice C. Collis advised the gelding was coming to the end of its preparation and would likely go for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed
ALL THAT PIZZAZZ – Had difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 500m.
GOLDSBOROUGH (NZ) – Shifted in on jumping and hampered NAVAL TRADER. Momentarily inconvenienced and carried wider on entering the home straight by ALL THAT PIZZAZZ which shifted out when trying to improve.
NAVAL TRADER – Hampered on jumping and slow to begin.
KAIZAD – On arrival at the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and was declared a late scratching at 3:19pm. Trainer J. Bruce was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings barrier manners. On the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all bets on KAIZAD to be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:
1st – NETTUNO – 6c win, 7c place.
2nd – NAVAL TRADER– 7c place.
3rd – GOLDSBOROUGH – 7c place.
RACE 8: U&U RECRUITMENT BENCHMARK 85 HANDICAP 1110 M
BRERETON – When asked to comment on the performance, jockey R. Maloney advised the gelding might have come to the end of its preparation. Trainers representative advised they would report back to stewards regarding the geldings condition in the days subsequent, after consideration is given to the horse spelling. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
TERMAGANT – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early and middle stages.
ZOUMETEOR – Fractious in the barriers. Reared as the start was effected and lost significant ground. Trainer S. Kendrick was advised that the gelding would be required to obtain a barrier certificate prior to next racing.
DEFIANT SPIRIT - Over-raced in the early stages.
DAYTONA – Began awkwardly and was slow into stride.
MUSCHIALLI – When asked to comment on the improved performance, trainer K. Kemp reported that he was surprised to see the price on offer for the gelding in today’s event, adding that the horse had pleased in its work since its last start and was of the opinion that the horse benefited from the drop back in distance.
RACE 9: LADBROKES SRM IN MULTIS COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES CLASS 6 HANDICAP 1350 M
TALTARNI FIELDS – Began awkwardly.
BATTLEFIELD – Rider L. Dempsey was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(b) for failing to ride his mount out over the final half stride. In determining penalty, stewards were satisfied that jockey L. Dempsey failed to ride his mount out over the final half stride and were of the opinion that this had no effect on the horses finishing position.
SLIPPIN' JIMMY – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
LITTLE BEGINNINGS – Began awkwardly. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey A. Mallyon reported his mount travelled well, however when asked for an effort in the home straight, failed to respond. He further added that the gelding would derive benefit from the run today. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
REDZOUST - Passing the 200m, was obliged to alter course and shift out to improve into clear running.
BILLIONAIR BABY – Shifted in on jumping. Over-raced in the middle stages. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
PRIME ASSET – Began awkwardly and lost significant ground. Passing the 800m, had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of BILLIONAIRE BABY as the pace of the race slackened.
THE EXTREME CAT – Raced three-wide without cover throughout. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
SECOND SUN – Raced three-wide with cover throughout.
