GENERAL

Stewards permitted the following overweight:

R9: Jockey A. Mallyon +0.5kg (54.5kg)

As Jockey J. Huxtable was not riding at today’s meeting due to illness, he was replaced as per the race day summary. Jockey J. Huxtable was advised that a medical would be required prior to racing again.

As Jockey L. Dempsey was unable to make the allocated weight in Race 1, he was replaced on SURREAL ASCOT by D. Thornton. Jockey L. Dempsey was refined $100 pursuant to AR 190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. In determining penalty Stewards took into consideration Jockey L. Dempseys excellent record.


As Jockey T. Brooker was unable to make the allocated weight in Race 6, she was replaced on HUMPHREE BEAR by G. Cartwright. Jockey T. Brooker was fined $200 pursuant to AR 190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight.

As Apprentice C. Vitler was unable to claim his full allowance in Race 2, he was replaced on NOTES by S. Callow. Apprentice C. Vitler was fined $100 pursuant to AR 190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. In determining penalty Stewards took into consideration Apprentice C. Vitlers excellent record.

RACE 1: DR LETICIA KELLY FILLIES AND MARES NO METRO WINS HANDICAP 1350 M

TIJUANA TWO STEP – Over-raced in the middle stages. Passing the 800m, had to be steadied after improving onto heels. Hampered and forced wider passing the 200m by IN GREAT SPIRIT which shifted out in an attempt to improve. Jockey R. Dolan the rider of IN GREAT SPIRIT was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding when shifting ground.

ONE BEAT NO BEAT – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the performance of ONE BEAT NO BEAT, Jockey A. Mallyon reported that the mare was disappointing in its finishing efforts on soft going and in his opinion would benefit from stepping back down in distance. Trainer M. Dunn advised that he would report back on the condition of the mare in the days subsequent.

LAVONI – Slow to begin.

IN GREAT SPIRIT – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Attempted to improve into a narrow run passing the 300m, contacting the running rail obliging its rider to take hold and shift out to secure clear running. Held up for clear running again passing the 100m.

IRON GRACE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

Following the running of this race and heavy rain showers passing through the area, the track was downgraded to a Soft 5 at 12:07pm.

RACE 2: BECOME A BRC MEMBER BM70 HANDICAP 2030 M

FLEET COMMANDER (IRE) – Apprentice J. McMurray reported at scale that in his opinion the gelding may not have appreciated the removal of blinkers or the step up in distance.

MISTERKIPCHOGE (NZ) – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Jockey R. Hutchings reported at scale that in his opinion, MISTERKIPCHOGE (NZ) may not have appreciated today’s racing surface. A post-race veterinary examination revealed respiratory noises. Trainers’ representative was B. Killian was advised that a veterinary certificate including the results of an endoscopic examination would be required prior to MISTERKIPCHOGE (NZ) racing again.

CAVALRY MAN – When questioned regarding CAVALRY MAN settling more forward in today’s event, Apprentice C. Collis reported that he was instructed to attempt to settle midfield, however after being trapped wide in the early stages, he elected to allow his mount to roll forward and take up a leading position. He further added that the gelding travelled well throughout the event however, proved disappointing when placed under pressure in the home straight. Trainer L. Gough confirmed the instructions issued to Apprentice C. Collis.

LUPINE (NZ) – When asked to comment on the performance of LUPINE (NZ), Jockey K. Wilson- Taylor reported that after beginning only fairly, the gelding proved to be one paced throughout and failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure.

OLD SONG – Slow to begin.

MISS CHENERY – Passing the winning post on the first occasion, had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of FLEET COMMANDER. A post-race veterinary inspection revealed the mare to have a minor laceration on its off foreleg. Lost its off fore plate.

CELESTIAL BLAZE – Began awkwardly and shifted in.

MISS MOZAMBIQUE – Jockey L. Tilley reported at scale that passing the 600m, he became concerned with the breathing of MISS MOZAMBIQUE, and as such, elected not to place his mount under pressure over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery and respiratory noises. Trainer M. Nolan was advised that a veterinary examination including the results of an endoscopic examination would be required prior to MISS MOZAMBIQUE racing again.

TAMBOURINE MAN – Hampered shortly after the start. Raced wide in the early stages and was allowed to stride forward and take up a position outside the lead near the 1200m. Jockey R. Dolan reported at scale that it was not his intention to settle that far forward, however elected to allow his mount stride forward, rather than be trapped wide.

NOTES (NZ) – Passing the 1400m, had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of MISS MOZAMBIQUE.

PLEADEEL – Began awkwardly.

RACE 3: RACECOURSE VILLAGE QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD PLATE 1110 M

WORTHY ENUFF – Over-raced in the middle stages.

HA'PENNY HATCH (NZ) – Hampered passing the 800m.

READY AND MABEL – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow into stride. Over-raced in the early stages. Made the point of the corner entering the turn at the 800m awkwardly, shifted out and contacted HA'PENNY HATCH (NZ). Approaching the 700m, had to be restrained after improving onto heels. When questioned regarding the filly settling at the rear of the field, Jockey H. Richardson reported that after beginning awkwardly, READY AND MABEL was unable to take up its customary leading position, and as a result failed to settle at any point of the event. Trainer N. Beck advised that the filly would now be sent for a spell.

RACE 4: SOUTHS SPORTS CLUB BM70 HANDICAP 1110 M

TROIKA – Held up on entering the home straight. Improved into a narrow run passing the 200m between ALLOUTATIME and THE ENCHANTER (NZ), which laid in.

RUNWITHTHETIDE – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped SHE'S EXOTIC. Jockey D. Moor reported at scale that it was his intention to settle further forward however, after only being tardy away, was obliged to settle further back in the field. Passing the 150m, was hampered and had its hindquarters turned by BOSSED UP, which was attempting to shift out to improve.

KODIAK – Restrained shortly after jumping away when racing in restricted room. When questioned regarding the performance of KODIAK, Jockey R. Hutchings reported that in his opinion, the gelding may not have appreciated todays racing surface.

ZOUPRINCE - Raced in restricted room for a short distance passing the 200m. Jockey M. Harley reported at scale that he became concerned with the action of ZOUPRINCE over the concluding stages and as a result, elected not to ride gelding out to the finishing line. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Stable representative T. Pollard was advised to report back on the geldings condition in the days subsequent.

ALLOUTATIME – Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 200m by TROIKA, which was improving to the outside. When questioned regarding the performance of ALLOUTATIME, Jockey J. Bayliss could offer no explanation for the mares disappointing effort. A post-race veterinary examination revealed respiratory noises. Trainer N. McCall was advised that ALLABOUTTIME would require a veterinary clearance including the results of an endoscopic examination prior to racing again.

SHE'S EXOTIC – Bumped at the start. Raced wide. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. When questioned regarding the performance of SHE’S EXOTIC, Jockey A. Mallyon reported that in his opinion the mare may not have appreciated today’s track conditions.

BOSSED UP – Bumped on several occasions with ANOTHER COGNAC shortly after the start. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and was obliged to shift out to improve. Passing the 150m, when attempting to shift out, contacted RUNWITHTHETIDE resulting in BOSSED UP becoming awkwardly placed on heels for a number of strides inside the final 100m.

CHALICE WELL – Raced wide.

ANOTHER COGNAC – Bumped on several occasions with BOSSED UP shortly after the start. Raced wide. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled bilaterally on the first occasion. Co-Trainer M. Sears was advised ANOTHER COGNAC would be stood down from racing under AR79 (4) for 3 months and must officially trial, jump out or gallop 1000m satisfactorily, in the presence of a Steward prior to racing again

THE ENCHANTER (NZ) – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed heat stress.


RACE 5: SPRING CARNIVAL BOOK NOW CLASS 6 PLATE 1200 M

BOLD COMIC – Slow into stride.

FLYING DESTINY - Raced wide throughout. Lost its off fore plate.

HASTEN DELIGHT – Raced wide throughout.

SHALAILED – Raced in restricted room for a short distance whilst weakening passing the 100m between BATTLEFIELD which shifted out and HASTEN DELIGHT which shifted in.

ZELGARIA – When questioned regarding todays improved performance, Trainer M. Dunn reported that following the geldings disappointing last start at Eagle Farm, ZELGARIA had been pleasing in its work leading into today’s event and subsequently was confident of a forward showing.

OUROBOROS – Jockey D. Thornton reported at scale that the gelding may not have appreciated today’s soft track conditions.


RACE 6: SKY RACING COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES NO METRO WINS HANDICAP 1350 M

Correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to inquire into whether LARRIKIN ROGUE was afforded a fair start. After taking evidence the starter and reviewing the official patrol footage, Stewards were comfortably satisfied that LARRIKIN ROGUE was not disadvantaged as the start was effected and declared correct weight on the judges’ semaphored numbers.

LARRIKIN ROGUE – Stood flat footed as the start was effected and took no part in todays event. Trainer C. Anderson was advised that LARRIKIN ROGUE would be required to officially trial prior to racing again.

PANNIER (NZ) – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the middle stages. Stewards questioned Apprentice B. Wheeler regarding his riding out of the gelding over the concluding stages. Apprentice B. Wheeler stated that his mount put in numerous awkward strides when placed under pressure over the concluding stages resulting in PANNIER (NZ) lifting its head. Trainer M. Currie reported that the stable was confident leading into today’s performance and the gelding was supported by the ownership group. Stewards advised Apprentice B. Wheeler and Trainer M. Currie that they wished to review the wagering on the race and as such adjourned to a time and date to be fixed. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame on its near foreleg. Trainer M. Currie was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to PANNIER (NZ) racing again. Trainer M. Currie was fined $100 pursuant to AR106(2) for presenting PANNIER (NZ) to the mounting yard without a nasal strip.

CHARLIE'S CASE – Laid out under pressure rounding the home turn.

TAKE A PICTURE – Began awkwardly.

YEAH COPY – Began awkwardly, shifted out and lost ground.


RACE 7: ROAD TO MAGIC MILLIONS ON SALE NOW OPEN HANDICAP 1110 M

NETTUNO – Commenced to race fiercely approaching the 900m when being restrained off heels and subsequently shifted in despite the efforts of its rider. Trainer T. Gollan was advised that warning would be placed on the gelding in relation to its racing manners.

SHA OF GOMER – Bumped on jumping away.

GOLDEN DECADE – Severely checked near the 900m when having to avoid the heels of NETTUNO which shifted in whilst being restrained.

AT WITZ END – Slow to begin.

SAFEWORK – Raced wide.

PARTY FOR TWO – Began awkwardly and shifted out.

HURTS SO GOOD – Hampered between runners on jumping and lost ground. Improved onto heels rounding the home turn and had to be steadied.


RACE 8: XXXX OPEN HANDICAP 1630 M

Correct weight was delayed to allow Trainer’s representative L. Freedman to view the official patrol footage of the home straight. After doing so, Mr. L. Freedman elected not to lodge an objection and correct weight was declared on the judges numbers.

DUCASSE – Over-raced in the early stages. Raced in restricted room approaching the 100m between KRONENBOURG (NZ), which shifted out and CABOCHE (NZ), which shifted in under pressure. Both Jockey R. Hutchings the rider of CABOCHE (NZ) and Jockey R. Maloney the rider of KRONENBOURG (NZ) were advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.

CABOCHE (NZ) – Approaching the 100m, shifted in marginally.

NIKAU SPUR (NZ) – Slow to begin.

KRONENBOURG (NZ) – Approaching the 100m shifted out marginally.

FLASH AAH – Over-raced in the early stages. Approaching the 1400m, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of BULLION BOY.

CUNNAMULLA FELLA – Slow to begin.

QUEEN AIR – Over-raced in the early stages. Approaching the 1400m was tightened for room and hampered by FLASH AAH, which was obliged to take hold and was forced inwards to avoid the heels of BULLION BOY which shifted in when insufficiently clear to do so. Jockey G. Cartwright the rider of BULLION BOY pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding. Jockey G. Cartwright’s license to ride in races was suspended for 8 days commencing midnight the 21st of September and concluding midnight the 29th of September.

MISSISSIPPI PRINCE – When questioned regarding todays performance, Jockey C. Graham reported that the gelding raced flat and when asked for an effort on straightening, weakened significantly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer B. Gray advised that the gelding would now be sent for a spell.

BATTLETON – Slow to begin.


RACE 9: LADBROKES ODDS SURGE BM78 HANDICAP 1630 M

DEEP FOCUS (NZ) – Trainer P. Shailer reported that following today’s disappointing performance, the gelding would now be sent for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be short stepping in front. Trainer P. Shailer was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again.

EXTRAORDINAIRE (FR) - Began awkwardly and lost ground.

BECAMO - Began awkwardly and lost ground. Over-raced early and passing the 1300m became awkwardly placed at heels and shifted wider. Continued to over-race in the middle stages.

SIZZLING GAL - Began awkwardly and lost ground.

OCEAN ZAR – Had difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 300m until securing clear running over the final 200m. Passing the 150m was momentarily inconvenienced when FREE CARRY shifted out marginally. Apprentice E. Lang the rider of FREE CARRY was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.

SIMPLY AMAZING – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
