GENERAL
 
Stewards approved the following overweight allowance at today’s meeting:
Race 3 – WOOTTEN HYDE – J. Guthmann-Chester + 0.5kg

RACE 1: BECOME A BRC MEMBER MAIDEN PLATE 2060M

BRIEF SPIRIT – Slow to muster speed in the early stages.
 
ARGERICH – Change of tactics; to be ridden with cover. After being caught wide early was permitted to stride and take up the leading position near the 1500m.
 
CLASSIC SHIRAZ – Near the 800m, contacted and taken wider when KISS THE COSMOS (K. Wilson-Taylor) shifted out to improve. Rider K. Wilson-Taylor was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Raced wide without cover from the 800m.
 
KISS THE COSMOS (NZ) – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Near the 800m, contacted CLASSIC SHIRAZ. Near the 300m, bumped and became badly unbalanced when PERHAPS PERHAPS (D. Thornton) shifted out before being corrected. Rider D. Thornton was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. Rider K. Wilson-Taylor could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
PERHAPS PERHAPS – Raced keen early. Held up for clear running approaching and rounding the home turn. Near the 300m, improved close to the heels of ARGERICH, shifted out and bumped KISS THE COSMOS.
 
STOICISM (NZ) – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice J. McMurray pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR131(b) for failing to ride his mount out over the final two strides of the race and was fined $500. When determining penalty, account was taken of apprentice McMurray’s record in relation to this rule, guilty plea and that his mount was contesting a placing, but could not be comfortably satisfied that his actions over the final two strides, had cost his mount finishing in 2nd place.
 
SHARE TRADER – Commenced to race keenly approaching the first turn, got its head up and laid out.

RACE 2: THE GIBSON FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN PLATE 1200M

MEADOWBROOK (NZ) – Taken in near the 1000m by TSZYUYA. For a short distance near the 600m, contacted the rail when racing tight to the inside of POWER REECE (E. Lang), which was laying in. Apprentice E. Lang was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) and notified to make a greater effort to correct her mounts in similar circumstances.
 
NANTERRE – Near the 1000m, steadied when racing in restricted room inside MEADOWBROOK, which was taken in by TSZYUYA (A. Jones), which shifted in when not quite clear. Rider A. Jones was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
SEA ME DANCE (NZ) – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
TINTAURA – Approaching the winning post, improved close to heels and went to the end of the race without being fully tested.
 
POWER REECE – Laid in for some distance near the 600m. When asked about the performance, apprentice E. Lang advised the filly, which raced in a forward position, weakened from the 300m. She said the filly was making an abnormal breathing noise on pulling up after the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed POWER REECE to have an upper respiratory noise. Trainer T. Gollan was advised the filly would require a veterinary clearance, inclusive of the results of an endoscopic examination prior to next racing or trialing.
 
RACE 3: ROAD TO MAGIC MILLIONS ON SALE NOW COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE 1200M

ANXO – Raced wide throughout.
 
HARD AS BROK – Began awkwardly. Brushed the rail near the 700m. Cast its off-fore plate in running.
 
LES AMIS – Began awkwardly, was crowded for room shortly after the start and lost ground. Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
VALEDICTORIAN – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
WILY JACK – Shifted in shortly after the start.
 
WOOTTEN HYDE – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
Following the running of this race, the track was upgraded to a good 4.

RACE 4: PINK RIBBON RACEWEEK QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD & FOUR-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1650M
 
BUSKER – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages and near the 900m was checked after improving onto the heels of LONESOME SOUL.
 
LONESOME SOUL – Near the 1400m, commenced to race keenly with its head up whilst being restrained.
 
MEANER THAN EVIL – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
RACE 5: SKY RACING BENCHMARK 75 HANDICAP 1200M

TONNEOFGRIT – Passing the 400m, when shifting out to improve, bumped LAYDOWNLILY.
 
XPRESSO – Slow into stride. Near the 900m, improved onto the heels of MERCHANT LADY and steadied. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Held up for clear running from the 400m until the entrance to the home straight.
 
LAYDOWNLILY – Bumped passing the 400m.
 
FIELD OF MYRTLE – When asked about the performance, rider A. Mallyon advised the mare travelled well in the run but was disappointing in its finishing efforts. He added the mare may be better suited racing on softer tracks. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.  
 
MERCHANT LADY – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Raced wide without cover from the 500m.
 
CASROCK – Inconvenienced near the 1000m when MERCHANT LADY shifted out. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

RACE 6: SPRING CARNIVAL ON SALE NOW CLASS 3 PLATE 1350M

The start of this race was delayed approximately 3 minutes when FIELD AGENT cast its near-fore plate on route to the barriers. After receiving farrier attention, the gelding underwent a veterinary examination.
 
KHUMBILA – Slow to begin. Raced ungenerously early and shifted out near the 900m. Raced wide throughout. When asked about the performance, rider R. Hutchings said he was expected to take up a forward position, however; the gelding was slow to begin, raced ungenerously early and settled at the rear of the field. He added the gelding failed to show any response to his riding in the home straight and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
LITTLE JEANIE (NZ) – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
ZOUFANI – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Laid out rounding the home turn and when placed under pressure in the home straight.

RACE 7: XXXX GOLD COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1200M

SIMPLY EXCELS – Began awkwardly.
 
MAGIC IN ME – Raced four-wide without cover throughout.
 
RIVER RIBBLE – Raced three-wide without cover throughout. Near the 300m, inconvenienced at the heels of MELDUBIOUS, which laid out.
 
BALTRAY – Raced wide throughout.
 
MELDUBIOUS – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
KILMAN (NZ) – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid out under pressure from the 300m.
 
RACE 8: LADBROKES BLACKBOOK FILLIES AND MARES BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1200M

The start of this race was delayed approximately 3 minutes when CREATIVITY MISS was fractious in the barriers, reared and became cast. Subsequently the mare was removed and declared a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 4:50pm. On the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on CREATIVITY MISS be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:
 
1st place IVY DEXSTRESS – 11c the win, 8c the place
2nd place MEHRETU – 10c the place
3rd place JOY A PLENTY – 16c the place
 
Trainer J. Mason was advised the mare would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to next racing.
 
MOSCOW CIRCUS – Raced three-wide without cover throughout. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
THAT'S INTERESTING – Laid out rounding the home turn and when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
POCKETMONEY – Began awkwardly. Held up approaching the home turn. Laid out under pressure in the early stages of the home straight. Near the 200m, inconvenienced and steadied from the heels of MEHRETU (A. Jones), which shifted in when not clear. Rider A. Jones was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
GRAND METEOR – Slow into stride. Approaching the winning post, steadied from the heels of THAT’S INTERESTING (M. Butler), which shifted out under pressure. Rider M. Butler was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. When questioned regarding settling at the rear of the field, rider R. Maloney advised his intention was to be in a more forward position, however; after not beginning well and when the mare didn’t muster early speed, he elected to settle at the rear from the wide gate.
 
MEHRETU – Disappointed for a run near the 250m, steadied and shifted in to obtain clear running, when THAT’S INTERESTING lay out.
 
IVY DEXSTRESS – Trainer T. Gollan was reprimanded pursuant to AR105 for failing to notify that IVY DEXSTRESS had undergone kissing spine surgery following its last race start, when the mare failed to finish the race.
