GENERAL
 
Stewards approved the following overweights:
 
Race 1: Jockey H. Van Der Hoven +1kg (55kg)
Race 2: Jockey J. Bayliss +0.5kg (53.5kg)
 
As Apprentice T. Fenlon, B. Wheeler and E. Lang were indisposed, they were replaced as per the race day summary and advised that they would require medical certificates prior to riding again.
 
Trainer G. Allard was fined $200 under LR 68(1) for failing to scratch BONJOUR RUPERT from Race 4 by the prescribed time.
 
Co. Trainers A. & D. Simpson were fined $100 under LR67(1) for the late declaration of M. Butler as the rider of INCA TRAIL in Race 4.
 
Trainer G. Cornish was fined $100 under LR67(1) for the late declaration of M. Butler as the rider of THE LUCKY ALIEN in Race 8.
 
Trainer J. Dunn was fined $100 under LR67(1) for the late declaration of M. Du Plessis as the rider of VEGAS RAIDER in Race 8.


RACE 1: BECOME A BRC MEMBER BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP         2200 M

BARAZIN (IRE) – Laid in over the concluding stages.
 
SPORTING CHANCE – Raced wide in the early stages before being allowed to stride forward to take up a position outside the lead passing the 1350m. When asked to comment on the performance of SPORTING CHANCE, Jockey R. Maloney stated that after having to do extra work early to obtain a leading position, the gelding weakened considerably when placed under pressure in the home straight. He further added that in his opinion, SPORTING CHANCE may not have appreciated today’s firm track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer J. Bruce was advised that the gelding would now be required to officially trial prior to racing again. Trainer J. Bruce advised that SPORTING CHANCE would now be sent for a spell and that he would report back to Stewards the gelding’s condition in the subsequent days.
 
KIRKEBY – Connections advised of a change of tactics in that KIRKEBY would attempt to settle more forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. Began awkwardly and shifted out.
 
TOESONTHENOSE (NZ) – Over-raced in the early and middle stages.
 
SO YOU ARE – Connections advised of a change of tactics in that SO YOU ARE would be ridden more forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly - lead. Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
CONNECTICUT – Began awkwardly, was hampered and lost ground. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
 
OLD SONG – Hampered on jumping away. Over-raced in the early stages.
 
After the running of this race, Stewards upgraded the track to a Good 4 at 12:23pm.
 
RACE 2: THE GIBSON FILLIES AND MARES NO METRO WINS HANDICAP   1350 M

IMPOSANT – Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight and was obliged to shift wider to improve.
 
OCEAN ALPS – Raced wide throughout. Jockey R. Hutchings reported that his mount commenced to weaken noticeably upon entering the home straight and that he became concerned with the mare’s action over the concluding stages and as a result, elected not to place OCEAN ALPS under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
 
FREELAND - Bumped with IRON GRACE shortly after the start.
 
IRON GRACE – Bumped with FREELAND shortly after the start.
 
SALT LAKE BETTY – Began awkwardly, making contact with the outside barrier partition and lost ground.
 
ONE BEAT NO BEAT – Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the early races.
 
WEXFORD MISS (IRE) – Bumped with HUSS ON FIRST on jumping away. Became awkwardly placed on heels on entering the home straight.
 
CASROCK – Held up passing the 300m before obtaining clear running a short distance thereafter. When questioned regarding settling in a forward position today, Jockey C. Graham reported that she advised connections that she would like to settle in a more prominent position and after beginning well, was able to take up a position behind the lead. Trainer K. Schweida, when questioned by Stewards regarding CASROCK settling further forward, stated that last start, it was his intention for the mare to settle midfield, however after being pressured in the early stages, CASROCK settled at the rear of the field. He further added that again today it was the intention for the mare to settle in a midfield position and that he was surprised to see CASROCK settling so far forward. Stewards reprimanded Trainer K. Schweida pursuant to AR100(1)(a) and reminded him of his obligations to notify Stewards of any change of tactics in future.
 
HUSS ON FIRST – Bumped with WEXFORD MISS (IRE) on jumping away. Raced wide for the majority of the event.


RACE 3: RQ SUPPORTS SAFETY IN RACING BENCHMARK 90 HANDICAP        1600 M

BULLION BOY – When the pace of the race slackened approaching the 1200m, became awkwardly placed at the heels of EXTRAORDINAIRE (FR), resulting in BULLION BOY shifting wider on the track before being restrained to take up a position outside the lead passing the 1100m. Jockey H. Van Der Hoven the rider of EXTRAORDINAIRE (FR) was reminded of his obligations to not excessively slow the speed of the race pursuant to AR 131(d). A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
YET HE MOVES – Hampered shortly after the start. Approaching the 1200m became awkwardly placed on the heels of BULLION BOY after pressuring his mount to take up a more forward position
 
DON'T STOP – Began awkwardly and shifted in shortly after the start. Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 1200m by BULLION BOY, which shifted out whilst over-racing. As a result, DON'T STOP was allowed to stride forward and take up a position outside the lead.
 
VICTORY WIN – Slow to begin.
 
SMART ACTION– Over-raced in the early and middle stages.
 
EXTRAORDINAIRE – Connections advised of change of tactics in that EXTRAORDINAIRE would be ridden more forward. Ridden accordingly - from a wide barrier took up a position outside the lead.
 
RACE 4: SPRING CARNIVAL BOOK NOW CLASS 2 PLATE       1350 M

BOOM SHOT – Bumped with PHAROAH'S PROPHECY on jumping away. When questioned regarding the performance of BOOM SHOT, Jockey R. Maloney reported that in his opinion the gelding had a checkered run throughout the event and was held up for clear running approaching the winning post. He further added that on face value, BOOM SHOT was disappointing in its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
GRAMMAR LAD – Hampered at the start. Passing the 800m, became awkwardly placed on heels whilst over-racing and was obliged to shift wider. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
HEMAN – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
I'M ZAC – Connections advised of a change of tactics in that I’M ZAC would attempt to settle further forward. Ridden accordingly. Over-raced in the middle stages.
 
INCA TRAIL – Began awkwardly. Became awkwardly placed on heels passing the 800m whilst over-racing.
 
NO NAME FRANK – Passing the 150m was momentarily inconvenienced by HEMAN, which laid in.
 
PHAROAH'S PROPHECY – Bumped with BOOM SHOT on jumping away.

LITTLE JEANIE (NZ) – Passing the 300m was momentarily held up for clear running. Jockey C. Graham dropped her outside rein passing the 50m.
 

RACE 5: SENQ QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP         1600 M

DUSHENKA – Momentarily held up for clear running approaching the 200m and was obliged to shift out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
PROFOUNDLY– Held up on entry to the home straight and was obliged to shift wider to obtain clear running near the 150m.
 
LONESOME SOUL – Hampered at the start. Raced wide.
 
CASTELLO GRAND – Began awkwardly and made contact with the inside barrier partition on jumping away.
 
KICKUPHIGH – Slow to begin.
 
MR WORTHINGTON – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
PINK VIXEN – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Over-raced in the early stages.
 
ARGENTUM ROCK - A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame on its off foreleg. Trainer S. Morrisey was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to racing again.


RACE 6: U&U RECRUITMENT CLASS 3 PLATE         1600 M

AMERICAN PHIREBALL – Over-raced in the early and middle stages.
 
CAVALRY MAN – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
MAKE A CALL – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the performance of MAKE A CALL, Jockey R. Maloney reported that in his opinion the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
CHILLAXING (IRE) – Shifted in near the 1200m and brushed the running rail. When questioned regarding the performance of CHILLAXING (IRE), Jockey D. Moor reported that the gelding had a tendency to over race and was disappointing when asked for an effort in the home straight. He further added that in his opinion CHILLAXING (IRE) would derive benefit from today’s race. A post-race veterinary examination revealedno apparent abnormalities.
 
MARGOT'S DEEL – Over raced middle stages. Approaching the 800m, had to be steadied from heels.

RACE 7: ROAD TO MAGIC MILLIONS BOOK NOW COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES NO METRO WIN HANDICAP (WGTS RAISED 0.5KG)      1350 M

PARETO – When questioned regarding the performance of PARETO, Jockey R. Maloney reported that the gelding never travelled comfortably and, in his opinion, may not have appreciated today’s firm track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer D. McColm was advised to report back to Stewards the condition of PARETO in the days subsequent.
 
LARRIKIN ROGUE – Slow to begin. Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages. When questioned regarding the performance of LARRIKIN ROGUE, Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor reported that after beginning well, he had to make use of his mount early, which in his opinion had a detrimental effect on its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
CHIEF WITNESS – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Raced wide. Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages.
 
GREAT ASPIRATIONS (NZ) – Over-raced in the early stages.
 
ROCK HARD LOVE – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
SYNERGY IN MOTION – When questioned regarding the performance of SYNERGY IN MOTION, Apprentice J. McMurray reported that the gelding over-raced in the early stages and in his opinion, this may have had a detrimental effect on SYNERGY IN MOTION’s overall finishing efforts. Trainer A. Campton concurred with Apprentice J. McMurray’s comments and advised that he would report back on the gelding’s condition in the days subsequent.
 
AMENOPHIS – Raced wide. Became awkwardly placed at the heels of LARRIKIN ROGUE passing the 50m, which was carried in by CHIEF WITNESS, which was carried in by LION CLASS, which laid in under pressure. Jockey D. Peisley the rider of LION CLASS was reprimanded pursuant AR 131(a) for allowing his mount to shift ground.
 
JEDIAH - Slow to begin and was hampered shortly after the start.
 

RACE 8: MORETON HIRE BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP         1110 M

SURPRISE HONEY- Began awkwardly and shifted out.
 
THE LUCKY ALIEN – Began awkwardly.
 
NEGOTIATIONS – Declared a late scratching at 1:32pm on veterinary advice. Trainers’ representative D. Maher was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to racing again.
 
SHE'S EXOTIC – Hampered and lost ground at the start. Raced wide.
 
CHALICE WELL – Hampered at the start. Raced wide.
 
GILIANA – Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Held up on entering the home straight and became awkwardly placed on the heels of GUAC ON when attempting a narrow run between that runner and THE LUCKY ALIEN, which laid in under pressure.
 
GUAC ON – Carried out on jumping away.
 

RACE 9: LADBROKES BIG BETS BENCHMARK 85 HANDICAP         1110 M

FLAG HALL – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
 
EPIC PROPORTIONS – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
NAVYONTHEHIGHWAY – Hampered on jumping away and lost ground. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Held up for clear running approaching the 100m and shifted out to obtain clear running.
 
HEARTONI – Raced wide for the majority. Leaving the 200m, when improving into a narrow run between FLAG HALL to the inside and EPIC PROPORTIONS to the outside, was obliged to restrain to avoid the heels of FLAG HALL after being carried inwards by EPIC PROPORTIONS, which shifted in. Jockey R. Hutchings the rider of EPIC PROPORTIONS was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding.
 
BEWS – Slow to begin. Approaching the 100m, when attempting to improve into a position to the outside of TROIKA, became awkwardly placed on that runners heels for a short distance.
 
MUSCHIALLI – Bumped on jumping away.
 
SIMBU – Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 50m by HOLD ON HONEY which shifted in under pressure.
 
BAND OF BROTHERS – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped MUSCHIALLI. Laid out under pressure passing the 200m. Jockey M. Harley was cautioned regarding the use of his whip in an action that raised it above shoulder height.
 
TROIKA – Hampered approaching the 100m by NAVYONTHE HIGHWAY which shifted out to obtain clear running. Apprentice B. Osmond the rider of NAVYONTHEHIGHWAY was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding.
