GENERAL
 
Stewards accepted Trainer S. Kendrick’s reason for the late scratching of RETAINER in Race 8.
 
Prior to the running of Race 1, Stewards inspected the track and upgraded it to a Good 4 at  12:11pm.

Race 1: BECOME A BRC MEMBER QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE  1110 M
 
EXCLUSIVE ONE – Over-raced in the early stages. Tailed off on entering the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer M. Wilson was advised that following today’s performance, EXCLUSIVE ONE would now be required to officially trial prior to racing again. Trainer M. Wilson advised that EXCLUSIVE ONE would now be gelded and sent for a spell.
 
NAUGHTY NEIL – Began awkwardly.
 
THREEEYEDWITCH – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
METRIC – Laid in under pressure in the early part of the home straight.
 
MISHANI TANGO – Shifted out on jumping away. Over-raced in the early stages. Passing the 300m was momentarily inconvenienced by METRIC, which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider. When asked to comment on performance, Jockey G. Cartwright could offer no explanation for today’s poor performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer D. Stanbridge was advised that following today’s disappointing performance, MISHANI TANGO would now be required to officially trial prior to racing again.
 
Race 2: SUNSET SOIREE BOOK NOW MAIDEN PLATE  1640 M
 
CRYPTO MAGIC – Blundered shortly after the start and became unbalanced for several strides.
 
FERGUS EN MARCHE – Overraced in the middle stages. Passing the 1000m, shifted in abruptly when being restrained, making heavy contact with the hindquarters of OUR ESPRIT. As a result, FERGUS EN MARCHE lost considerable momentum. Apprentice R. Thorburn reported at scale that his mount took charge near the 1100m. Trainer P. Hill was advised that FERGUS EN MARCHIE would be required to officially trial prior to racing again.
 
TULONG – Raced wide in the early stages before being allowed to stride forward and take up a leading position near the 1100m.
 
RUSTY TYCOON – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
ARTISTIC TOUCH – Passing the 200m was obliged to alter course and shift out to improve into clear running.
 
OUR ESPRIT – Slow to begin. Near the 1400m, was obliged to take hold to avoid the heels of PIGGIETALES, which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey J. Lloyd the rider of PIGGIETALES was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding. Severely hampered, having its hindquarters contacted passing the 1000m by FERGUS EN MARCHE, which took hold and shifted in abruptly.
 
 
Race 3: RACECOURSE VILLAGE CLASS 1 HANDICAP  1640 M
 
ABRAHAM – When questioned regarding if ABRAHAM had the opportunity to improve in the middles stages of the event to bridge the gap that SAVEUR had placed on the field, Jockey J. Guthmann - Chester reported that his mount had a tendency to lay in in the early stages of the race and that he was focused on getting his mount to travel comfortably. He further added that he was of the opinion that SAVEUR would not be able to sustain the extended run and would likely come back to meet the field. He further explained that his mount failed to finish off the event as per its last winning performance but noted on return to scale that ABRAHAM had lost its off-fore plate, which may have contributed to today’s performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed minor lacerations to its inguinal area.
 
FIREFORCE – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Over-raced in the early stages before being restrained passing the 1300m to take up a position at the rear of the field. Continued to over-race in the middle stages. Passing the 800m was allowed to shift three wide in an attempt to improve. Momentarily inconvenienced on entering the home straight. When asked to comment on performance, Apprentice J. Franklin reported that his instructions were to be neutral early, however after beginning awkwardly, was obliged to settle back rather than being trapped wide in the early stages. He further added that FIREFORCE was one paced and failed to finish off the event as expected. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
EXPLOSIVE POWER (NZ) – Shifted in on jumping away. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight until inside the final 100m.
 
CANARA – Trainers representative B. Killion advised that in his opinion, the mare may not have appreciated today’s relatively quick back up and the stable would look to space the mares runs out in future.
 
POUTCHEK (GB) - A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer R. Heathcote was advised of the provisions of AR79(4).  
 
STOICISM (NZ) – Inconvenienced on jumping away.
 
SAVEUR – Shifted in on jumping away. Jockey A. Jones reported at scale that it was not her intention to lead, however after beginning well and crossing runners to her inside, she was able to settle the filly into a comfortable rhythm and after not being challenged in the early and middle stages, she elected to make use of her leading position and place her mount under pressure passing the 500m to attempt a sustained run to the finish.
 
STAR ANTHEM – Began awkwardly, contacting the inside barrier partition before being inconvenienced, blundering and losing ground.
 
 
Race 4: SKY RACING FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 3 HANDICAP  1200 M
 
JUST PRECIOUS – Disappointed for a run on entering the home straight resulting in JUST PRECIOUS becoming awkwardly placed on heels for a short distance.
 
FORTUNEER – Bumped with JENCHICK BOOM shortly after the start.
 
JENCHICK BOOM – Bumped with FORTUNEER shortly after the start.
 
CORDINA – Over-raced in the early stages. Laid in under pressure rounding the home turn passing the 600m. Jockey M. Du Plessis reported that he advised connections post-race that the mare would benefit from a change in bit.
 
DIVINE SOURCE – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
KELANOA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
INTRECCIATO – Leaving the 600m, had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of CORDINA and as a result, shifted wide and raced three wide for the remainder of the event.
 
Race 5: GIRLS DAY OUT 7 MARCH COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES CLASS 3 HANDICAP  1200 M
 
TRUE AMOR – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
 
RUNWITHTHETIDE – When asked to comment on the tactics adopted today, in particular leading the event, Jockey D. Moor reported that with no firm instructions, after beginning well, and with little speed shown by other runners, he elected to ride his mount forward and settle in a leading position.
 
GRAMMAR LAD – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Pasing the 200m, attempted to shift out to obtain clear running, but was again held up until approaching the 50m. Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages. Lost its off-fore plate.
 
SUPERHERO – Began awkwardly. Held up for clear running passing the 400m. Laid in under pressure approaching the winning post and had to be corrected by its rider.
 
INCA TRAIL– Laid in under pressure in the early part of the home straight and was momentarily inconvenienced passing the 200m by SUPERHERO, which shifted out to improve.
 
HE'S FOR THE GIRLS – Over-raced in the middle stages.
 
HERMAN SAID – Raced wide.
 
Race 6: XXXX GOLD CLASS 5 HANDICAP  1350 M
 
HELL TO PAY – When asked to comment on the tactics adopted today, in particular if there was an opportunity to lead in the early stages, Apprentice J. McMurray reported that his instructions were to be forward, however with speed shown by other runners to his inside, he elected to restrain his mount and take up a position with cover approaching the 700m.
 
OCTOBER (NZ) – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and approaching the 300m had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of YENDY.
 
CHO OYU – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
 
KODIAK – Over-raced in the middle stages when being restrained.
 
ACAPPELLA SUN – Apprentice C. Baker reported at scale that after being trapped wide in the early stages, she elected to restrain her mount and take up a position at the rear of the field with cover.
 
DE FORZA – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on DE FORZA, Apprentice C. Bellamy stated that she anticipated to settle midfield with cover, however after beginning well found herself trapped three wide. She added that after attempting to restrain her mount to obtain a position passing the 600m, her mount commenced to race fiercely and rather than continue to restrain the horse, she elected to allow DE FORZA to settle three wide outside of the lead. When asked if she had an opportunity to push forward to obtain a leading position passing the 800m, after KODIAK positioned to her inside was being restrained, she added that she was focused on attempting to obtain cover and was reluctant to place her mount under pressure so far out so elected to remain three wide in the hope that DE FORZA would settle. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
Race 7: MAGIC MILLIONS MARCH YEARLING SALE BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP  1640 M
 
TAMBO'S JUSTICE – Over the concluding stages, became awkwardly placed on the heels of ROCK YA (NZ), which laid in.
 
FAT FINGERS (NZ) – Slow to begin and was then hampered. Apprentice J. McMurray reported at scale that his mount never travelled comfortably at any stage of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be bilaterally lame in front. Trainer A. Chau was advised that further investigation, inclusive of x-ray reports and a veterinary certificate prior to officially trialing to Stewards satisfaction and a post-trial veterinary certificate would be required prior to racing again. Trainer A. Chau advised that FAT FINGERS (NZ) would now be retired.
 
ARIZONA DREAMING – Obliged to alter course leaving the 200m to improve into clear running. Apprentice C. Sutherland was fined $200 pursuant to AR 131(b) for failing to ride his mount out to the finishing line. In determining penalty, Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that this would have cost ARIZONA DREAMING a place.
 
DELRICO – Began awkwardly.
 
ECLAIR AWESOME – Began awkwardly and was buffeted between runners for a short distance.
 
ROCK YA (NZ) – Began awkwardly and bumped with ECLAIR AWESOME. Laid in over the concluding stages. Jockey M. Rodd reported at scale that his mount was inclined to lay in throughout the event.
 
LARIDAE – Slow to begin.
 
GREY NORTHERN (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Jockey D. Moor was fine $200 pursuant to AR 131(b) for failing to ride his mount out to the finishing line. In determining penalty, Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that this would have cost ARIZONA DREAMING a place.
 
 
 
Race 8: LADBROKES QUICK MULTI RATINGS BAND 0 - 65 HANDICAP  1350 M
 
TORO STRIKE – Obliged to alter course on entering the home straight and shifted wider.
 
USE YOUR ILLUSION – Near the 700m, had to be steadied after improving onto heels.
 
NOIRE EMPEROR – Hampered on jumping away.
 
TOMBA – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
 
MARAGICAL – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
BELLS OF STEEL – Severely hampered on jumping away. Apprentice J. Franklin reported at scale that after being hampered on jumping away, he was obliged to settle further back than anticipated and when placed under pressure, the mare failed to respond to his riding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer D. Vandyke advised that in his opinion, the mare is not suited to settling so far back and it is his intention for the mare to undergo further veterinary examination upon return to the stable and that he would report back any significant findings in the subsequent days.
 
TAM NA GHAR (NZ) – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Jockey D. Moor reported at scale that TAM NA GHAR (NZ) may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer J. Bruce advised that TAM NA GHAR (NZ) would now be sent for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed not abnormalities.
 
YES TO EXCESS – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
