GENERAL
Stewards accepted the reasons tendered by Trainer A. Archibald for the late declaration of A. Mallyon as the rider of DON’T CHA THINK in Race 4.
Stewards accepted the reasons tendered by Trainer D. Bowen for the late declaration of M. Du Plessis as the rider of AUSTRALASIA in Race 7.
As Apprentice J. McMurray was unable to claim his full allowance in Race 4, he was replaced on FASHIONABLE by Apprentice C. Baker. Apprentice J. McMurray was fined $100 pursuant to AR 143(14)(a).
As Jockey R. Maloney was indisposed following the running of Race 3, he was replaced as per the race day summary.
RACE 1:RACECOURSE VILLAGE MAIDEN PLATE 1200 M
SAMPHIRE GREEN (IRE) – Slow to begin.
LOFTY MACSPORRAN – Began awkwardly. Near the 750m, raced in restricted room for a short distance and had to take hold when MARITIMO shifted in. Jockey B. Lerena, the rider of MARITIMO was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding. Forced wider near the 400m when THE AVIATOR shifted out.
MARITIMO – Raced wide throughout.
THE AVIATOR – Over-raced in the early stages. Leaving the 800m, had to be checked to avoid the heels of ABLESHEEBA, which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey T. Brooker, the rider of ABLESHEEBA pleaded guilty pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding. The particulars of the charge being that leaving the 800m, she steadied her mount and shifted in to obtain a position trailing SPOILT ROTTEN and in doing so was not clear of THE AVIATOR, which was obliged to check and as a result, lost its rightful running. Jockey T. Brooker had her license to ride in races suspended for 9 days commencing midnight 6th April and concluding midnight 15th April 2026. Improved onto heels near the 400m and was obliged to shift out to secure clear running.
WOODROW – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped CHANTILLY.
MADAM GRISELDA – Near the 1000m inconvenienced when LOFTY MACSPORRAN shifted out. Jockey M. Du Plessis reported at scale that his mount laid in throughout the event.
CHANTILLY – Bumped shortly after the start and was hampered. Over-raced in the early stages. Held up rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
RACE 2:SKY RACING CLASS 5 HANDICAP 1350 M
OCEAN ZAR – Near the 1000m, momentarily became awkward in its action when DIVAKARAshifted out.
SMART AS SMART – Held up rounding the home turn. Jockey J. Bayliss was fined $100 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(i) for using his whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
DIVAKARA – Began awkwardly, shifted out and lost ground.
KEY LEGEND - Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame on its off-foreleg. Trainer D. S. Bowen was advised that KEY LEGEND would require a veterinary certificate prior to racing again.
RACE 3:GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1630 M
I AM LOUIE (NZ) - Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight. Jockey B. Thompson reported at scale that after having difficulty securing clear running in the home straight, he was of the opinion that I AM LOUIE (NZ) would appreciate a step up in distance.
ONLYYOUCANREAD – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Momentarily held up for clear running passing the 200m.
OUR MATE LOCKY - Shifted out and raced wide from the 800m in order to improve into clear running.
RUSTY TYCOON – Began awkwardly. Had difficulty securing clear running rounding the home turn.
VIOLACEOUS – Had difficulty securing clear running rounding the home turn.
RACE 4:DRINKWISE BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1630 M
MOON SWEEPER – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
SILENT CALL – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. Trainer M. Dunn advised Stewards that SILENT CALL will now be sent for a spell in light of today’s performance.
WILD GYPSY – Over-raced whilst being restrained to obtain cover between the 1300m and 1200m.
HE'SGOTTHESAY – Slow to begin.
DIVINE SOURCE - Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped THEBARBEROFSEVILLE.
DON'TCHA THINK - Began awkwardly and contacted the inside barrier partition on jumping away.
FASHIONABLE (NZ) – When asked to comment on the performance of FASHIONABLE (NZ), Apprentice C. Baker reported that her instructions were to settle with cover and after beginning well, she was unable to muster early speed, so elected to settle at the rear of the field rather than be caught wide. She further added that she attempted to improve and placed her mount under pressure from the 700m, however FASHIONABLE (NZ) failed to quicken as expected and in her opinion will appreciate a step up in distance, as the filly was doing its best work over the concluding stages.
THEBARBEROFSEVILLE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
RACE 5:STRADBROKE SEASON ON SALE NOW CLASS 2 PLATE 2030 M
DELRICO – When asked to comment on the tactics adopted today, in particular settling in a leading position, Jockey A. Mallyon explained that his instructions were to settle with cover, however after beginning well and with the pace of the race slackening, passing the winning post on the first occasion he elected to ride forward and settle in a leading position rather than be caught wide.
ROCK THE SUNRISE – Inconvenienced and steadied near the 100m, when SUNNY DISPOSITION shifted out under pressure.
TRUMP CARD (NZ) – After passing the winning post on the first occasion, when the pace of the race slackened, improved onto heels and had to be checked. Continued to race ungenerously until the near the 1400m. Forced wider approaching the 500m, when DOWN UNDER STUNNAH shifted out.
MONTEVECCHIO – Slow to begin. Shifted wider from the 900m in order to improve and raced wide from that point onwards. Inconvenienced and forced wider approaching the 500m when TRUMP CARD (NZ) was forced out by DOWN UNDER STUNNAH which shifted ground. Jockey B. Lerena the rider of DOWN UNDER STUNNAH, was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding.
SUNNY DISPOSITION – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame on its near hindleg. Trainer D. Bell was advised that SUNNY DISPOSITION would require a veterinary certificate prior to racing again.
RACE 6:XXXX GOLD BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1200 M
EYE OF THE EAGLE - Slow to begin. Held up for clear running from the 250m until leaving the 200m.
ALLOUTATIME – Bumped on jumping away. Lost its near-hind plate.
RUNWITHTHETIDE – Reared on jumping away. Raced wide throughout.
SCRUMPTIOUS – Began awkwardly.
TAKE ACHANCE ON ME - Held up for clear running rounding the home turn until near the 200m when AMORE VELOCE shifted in, causing TAKE ACHANCE ON ME to shift out to obtain clear running to the outside of AMORE VELOCE.
RACE 7:LADBROKES MATES MODE CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1110 M
The start of this event was delayed approximately 8 mins owing to ONIGIRI breaking through the front barrier partition and galloping for a considerable distance before being recaptured and subsequently was declared a late scratching at 5.10pm on veterinary advise. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on ONIGIRI be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st CLIMACTIC 1c win, 2c place
2nd BRAVEHEART 1c place
3rd MAIKROW 2c place
Trainer D. Dwane was advised that a warning would be placed on ONIGIRI in relation to its barrier manners.
Whilst ONIGIRI was being recaptured, all other runners were backed out of the barriers. MAIKROW underwent a veterinary inspection after becoming fractious and was cleared to start.
BRAVEHEART – Raced wide.
CLIMACTIC – Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight. Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
OUT OF TURN – Approaching the 900m, had to take hold and lost its rightful running when EMBOLDEN checked after racing in restricted room when BREEZIN' was forced inwards by BRAVEHEART, which shifted in.
BREEZIN' – Change of tactics – Settle further back. Settled with cover. Approaching the 900m, was forced in by BRAVEHEART.Had difficulty securing clear running in the early part of the home straight until the 200m.
AUSTRALASIA – Slow to begin.
EMBOLDEN – Approaching the 900m, raced in restricted room for a short distance and had to be checked and lost its rightful running when BREEZIN' was forced in by BRAVEHEART which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Apprentice J. McMurray the rider of BRAVEHEART, in the presence of Apprentice Mentor S. Scriven was found guilty to a charge pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding. The particulars of the charge being that approaching the 900m, he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of BREEZIN', which had improved to his inside, forcing that horse to be taken in onto EMBOLDEN, tightening that runner and OUT OF TURN, causing both runners to lose their rightful running when EMBOLDEN was obliged to be checked. Apprentice J. McMurray’s license to ride in races was suspended for 10 days commencing midnight 4th April and concluding midnight 14th April 2026. Apprentice J. McMurray was advised of his right of appeal. Raced wide from the 700m.
