GENERAL
Prior to the running of Race 1, Stewards inspected the track and upgraded it to a Good 4 at 11:15am.
RACE 1:BECOME A BRC MEMBER QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1110 M
The start of this event was delayed approximately 2mins, owing to ELUSIVE CAPITAL becoming fractious in the barriers and being backed out. Subsequently underwent a veterinary examination and was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 12:30pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on ELUSIVE CAPITAL be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st FEARLESS WIN 5c win, 7c place
2nd MAGRITTE 9c place
3rd UNLOADING 7c place
Trainer representative for M. Freedman was advised that ELUSIVE CAPITAL would require a further barrier certificate at an official trial prior to racing again. Trainers’ representative was advised that the filly would now be sent for a spell.
UNLOADING – Bumped shortly after the start. Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 200m.
EVER SO READY – Shifted out on jumping away. Over-raced in the early stages. Leaving the 800m was momentarily inconvenienced and carried out by O'REILLYS FLIGHT, which shifted out whilst over-racing.
HELL OR HEAVEN - Approaching the 700m, was hampered and had to be restrained to avoid the heels of O'REILLYS FLIGHT, which shifted in whilst over-racing. Obliged to alter course and shift in leaving the 200m.
O'REILLYS FLIGHT – Leaving the 800m, after improving onto the heels of FEARLESS WIN, shifted out before shifting back to a position closer to the rail, hampering HELL OR HEAVEN.
MAGRITTE – Bumped by EVER SO READY on jumping away, was carried out and bumped with UNLOADING. Momentarily inconvenienced leaving the 700m. Over-raced in the middle stages.
FEARLESS WIN – Laid out over the concluding stages.
THE DEVIL'S GIRL – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
I AM THAT GIRL – Momentarily inconvenienced leaving the 700m. Held up for clear running passing the 300m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
After the running of this race, Apprentice C. Baker was examined by the Official Club Doctor and cleared to fulfil her remaining riding engagements.
RACE 2: SKY RACING BENCHMARK 85 HANDICAP 1615 M
RAMP IT UP – Over-raced in the middle stages.
KIPLING'S JOURNEY – Change of Tactics – Attempt to lead. Ridden accordingly - lead.
KORUTO – Obliged to alter course leaving the 200m and was obliged to shift in to improve.
IRAMA – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
RACE 3: STRADBROKE SEASON ON SALE NOW CLASS 3 PLATE 1615 M
BOOM SHOT – Bumped shortly after the start.
FIRE AND LIGHT – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
SO YOU ARE– Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped BOOM SHOT.
PHENOM – Began awkwardly. Raced in restricted room approaching the 1400m. When asked to comment on performance, Jockey D. Thornton could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer T. Pollard was advised to report back on the condition of PHENOM in the subsequent days.
MORE FOR READY – Over-raced in the early and middle stages.
RACE 4: XXXX GOLD QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 2020 M
The start of this event was delayed approximately 4 mins owing to WILLIE OR WONG HE momentarily becoming cast in the barriers. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 2:17pm.
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on WILLIE OR WONG HE be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st ZULEIKA 5c win, 5c place
2nd NORTY FORTY 8c place
3rd FALCON LAIR 3c place
Trainer representative B. Killian was advised that WILLIE OR WONG HE will be required to officially trial to Stewards satisfaction prior to racing again.
Whilst cast, WILLIE OR WONG HE made contact with CASTELLO GRANDE, which was in the adjacent barrier. Subsequently, this runner was backed out of the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 2:17pm.
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on CASTELLO GRANDE be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st ZULEIKA 16c win, 15c place
2nd NORTY FORTY 23c place
3rd FALCON LAIR 10c place
Trainers’ representative O. Peoples was advised that CASTELLO GRANDE would require a veterinary certificate prior to racing again.
Correct weight was delayed to allow Trainer K. Kemp to view the official photo finish between 5th and 6th. After doing so and being comfortably satisfied, Stewards declared correct weight on the judges’ numbers.
GO MARO – A post-race veterinary examination revealed severe heat stress.
TAP HIGH – Jockey M. Du Plessis reported at scale that after being caught wide in the early stages, TAP HIGH proved difficult to settle so he elected to allow the gelding to stride forward rather than be restrained.
LADY TANGALOOMA (NZ) – Had difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 300m.
RACE 5: LADBROKES CALCUTTA & LUNCHEON 12 JUNE QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD FILLIES HANDICAP 1350 M
ICARIAN DREAM – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight until the 300m, shifted out and contacted LONESOME SOUL.
DON'TDOUBTHELADY – Jockey D. Moor could offer no explanation for today’s disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor recovery. Trainer C. Taylor was advised that a veterinary certificate inclusive of ECG results would be required prior to racing again.
SMEXY – Bumped shortly after the start. Awkwardly placed on heels leaving the 700m.
LONESOME SOUL – Contacted near the 300m by ICARIAN DREAM, which shifted out to improve.
PINK VIXEN – Shifted out on jumping away.
SOCIAL PARIAH – Hampered at the start. Over-raced in the early stages.
SURE START – Shifted in on jumping away.
I'LLTELLYOUTONIGHT – Bumped shortly after the start.
LADIES OCEAN RUN – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
MISS ADRIFT – Jockey M. Du Plessis reported at scale that his mount raced keenly throughout and failed to settle at any point.
RACE 6: DRINKWISE BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 1350 M
CAVALRY MAN – Laid out rounding the turn passing the 500m. Momentarily held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
REDZOUST – Stood flat footed as the start was effected and lost significant ground. Trainer representative C. Bell was advised that REDZOUST would be required to officially trial or jump out.
EXCEED SPEED - Raced wide throughout. Raced in restricted room for a short distance whilst weakening passing the 100m.
SAVAGERY VIBE – Raced in restricted room for a short distance passing the 1000m. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
DREAM SMART - Raced wide throughout.
THINKHARDANDFAST – Raced wide throughout. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
LUNAITE - Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor reported at scale that in his opinion the mare may not have appreciated today’s firm track. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor recovery.
GRAMMAR LAD – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
RACE 7: CRICKS HIGHWAY BENCHMARK 80 HANDICAP 1110 M
RICHON – Bumped on jumping away. Apprentice C. Bellamy dropped her whip near the 250m.
FLYING DESTINY – Lost its near hind plate.
OUROBOROS – Bumped on jumping away. Lost its near fore plate.
BRERETON – Began awkwardly. Raced wide.
FIRST MISSION – Bumped on jumping away. When asked to comment on the performance of FIRST MISSION, Jockey R. Maloney reported that gelding failed to improve when asked for an effort and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer K. Schweida was advised to report back on the condition of the gelding in the subsequent days.
FRAGILE LOVE – Slow to begin. Leaving the 700m had to be steadied when racing in restricted room to the inside of ESTRONDO, which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.
WITHOUT PARALLEL – Bumped on jumping away. Raced wide.
HENRY'S BLADE (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Passing the 700m had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of FLYING DESTINY.
RACE 8: LADBROKES HOSTED POTS OPEN HANDICAP 1350 M
COTE ATLANTIQUE (IRE) – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground. Trainer H. Dwyer was advised that a warning would now be placed on the gelding in relation to its barrier manners.
LUCKY GIRL (IRE) – When asked to comment on performance, Jockey R. Maloney reported that LUCKY GIRL (IRE) proved disappointing when placed under pressure and was one paced in its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
KRONENBOURG (NZ) – Raced wide. When asked to comment on the performance of KRONENBOURG (NZ), Apprentice E. Lang reported that in her opinion the gelding would be better suited over more distance.
CASTILLIAN (NZ) – Trainers representative B. Cavanaugh was fined $100 pursuant to AR 106(1) for presenting CASTILLIAN (NZ) to the mounting yard without blinkers.
MAHAGONI (GB) – Leaving the 1000m had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of CASTILLIAN (NZ) whilst over-racing. Raced wide.
GERIATRIX – Change of tactics – Settle further forward. Settled midfield.
HARBOURMASTER – Raced in restricted room passing the 50m between CASTILLIAN (NZ) and EXOTIQUE MISS, which shifted out under riding. Apprentice O. Webb, the rider of EXOTIQUE MISS was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding.
