RACE 6:SKY RACING Class 5 Handicap 1640M
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey J. Bayliss, rider of the second placed SMART AS SMART against RETAINER (B. Thompson) being declared the winner, alleging interference in the home straight. Stewards after hearing evidence from the relevant parties and viewing the Stewards patrol footage, were of the opinion that RETAINER did shift out marginally near the 150m, resulting in both SMART AS SMART and RETAINER racing in restricted room over the concluding stages with both runners making minor contact. Stewards, bearing in mind the short head margin, could not be comfortably satisfied that had this incident not occurred SMART AS SMART would have finished ahead of RETAINER at the conclusion of the event and therefore dismissed the objection, and correct weight was given on the judges semaphored numbers.
NAILS MURPHY (IRE) – Restrained from the wide barrier to obtain a position closer to the rail. Disappointed for a run approaching the 200m. Held up for clear running over the concluding stages.
