GENERAL
 
As Jockey A. Mallyon was injured at Grafton 19/04/26, he was replaced as per the race day summary. Jockey A. Mallyon was advised a medical certificate would be required prior to riding again.
 
As Jockey V. Duric was ill, he was replaced as per the race day summary. Jockey V. Duric was advised a medical certificate would be required prior to riding again.
 
As Jockey C. Collis was not riding at today’s meeting for acceptable reasons, he was replaced as per the race day summary.
 
Prior to the running of Race 1, Stewards inspected the track and upgraded it to a Good 4 at 10:50am.

RACE 1:GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP   1110 M


EVER SO READY – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Passing the 150m was contacted and carried wider by HOME TOMURRA, which improved into restricted room.
 
BERZELIUS – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped OUTSHINES. Over-raced in the early stages. Momentarily inconvenienced on entering the home straight when carried wider by OUTSHINES, which was carried out by SETTLE THIS, which shifted out to improve.
 
COME SUNDOWN – Buffeted between runners shortly after the start.

HOME TOMURRA – Raced in restricted room and had to be steadied leaving the 800m when racing tight to the inside of DOLLY BOOM, which shifted in whilst racing greenly before being corrected. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Leaving the 200m, improved into restricted room between RUN LIKE A GIRL and EVER SO READY resulting in HOME TOMURRA contacting EVER SO READY, carrying that runner wider.

SETTLE THIS - Over-raced in the early and middle stages.
 
DOLLY BOOM - Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the early stages. Apprentice E. Lang reported that DOLLY BOOM raced greenly throughout.
 
OUTSHINES - Bumped on jumping away. Raced in restricted room and had to be steadied leaving the 800m when racing tight to the inside of DOLLY BOOM, which shifted in whilst racing greenly before being corrected. Momentarily inconvenienced on entering the home straight by SETTLE THIS, which shifted out to improve.
 
RUN LIKE A GIRL – Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
SUPER SWAZEY – Slow to begin.


RACE 2: BECOME A BRC MEMBER MAIDEN PLATE          1650 M


ATTESTATION – Over-raced in the early and middle stages.
 
BIG TECH – Raced wide throughout.     
 
HAWKWOOD – Leaving the 400m, became awkward in its action resulting in the gelding blundering and dislodging its rider. Following a post-race veterinary examination, HAWKWOOD was found to have sustained a fracture to its off foreleg and was humanely euthanised. HAWKWOOD was transported for a post-mortem examination and biological samples were collected for analysis. Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester was examined by the Club Doctor and cleared to fulfil his remaining riding obligations.
 
HOPETOUN PARK - A post-race veterinary examination revealed an abrasion to its near fore fetlock. Trainer V. Venkaya was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to racing again.

SECRET FENKEL – Bumped shortly after the start.   
 
TSZYUYA – When asked to comment on performance, Jockey B. Thompson reported that TSZYUYA did not let down as expected in the home straight and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer’s representative C. Cavanagh was advised to report back to Stewards on the future racing plans for TSZYUYA.
 
BOMB PERIGNON – Began awkwardly. Passing the 1200m, commenced to over-race when attempting to be restrained to obtain a position with cover. After being unable to secure cover, raced three wide for the remainder of the event.


RACE 3: SKY RACING MAIDEN HANDICAP    1350 M

THE AVIATOR – Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Obliged to alter course leaving the 200m and shifted out to secure clear running.

SATURDAYS GIRL – Inconvenienced on jumping away and lost ground.
 
BLUE WHITE BLUE – Shifted out abruptly on jumping away. Raced wide for the majority. When asked to comment on performance, Jockey C. Graham reported that BLUE WHITE BLUE was inclined to over-race in the early stages and as a result raced wide without cover for the majority of the event which may have had a detrimental effect on its finishing efforts. She further added that in her opinion the gelding may not have appreciated today’s track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.

LIGHTS WILL GUIDE - Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
RAINBOW GLITTER – Jockey G. Cartwright reported at scale that RAINBOW GLITTER hung out throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed abrasions in its mouth. Trainer V. Venkaya was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to racing again.

KALAMIA KING – Hampered on jumping away.


RACE 4: ANZAC DAY RACEDAY THIS SATURDAY BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP      2060 M

PICKO ROCKS – Slow to begin.

WEONA REDWOOD (NZ) - Momentarily inconvenienced leaving the 200m, having its hindquarters contacted by DELRICO, which attempted to shift out to improve.
 
DELRICO – Leaving the 200m, attempted to shift out to improve, contacting WEONA REDWOOD (NZ).

WATERMELON - Raced wide early.
 
GALWAY FLYER -  Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
VERMILION KIRIN – Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the early stages. Leaving the 1600m, had to be steadied after improving onto heels. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight until passing the 200m.
 
ADDITION (NZ) – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight until passing the 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

FASHIONABLE (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
 
REGGIE'S FOLLY – Inconvenienced and carried wader leaving the 150m.


RACE 5: STRADBROKE SEASON ON SALE NOW BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP      2060 M


ARTFUL GIRL – Hampered on jumping away. Approaching the 1200m, had to be restrained after improving onto heels. When asked to comment on the tactics adopted today, Apprentice T. Fenlon reported that after being hampered on jumping away, she was obliged to settle at the rear of the field, and in her opinion the mare is better when ridden positively early and allowed to settle in a forward position. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer K. Kemp stated that in his opinion the mare was disadvantaged after beginning slowly and obliging it to settle further back in the field and it was his intention to continue on with ARTFUL GIRL’s  preparation.
 
ROCK YA (NZ) – Blundered on jumping away. Jockey M. Rodd reported that ROCK YA (NZ) hung in throughout the event.

TRUMP CARD (NZ) – Shifted out on jumping away and bumped DREAM THINKER. Held up for clear running passing the 250m and raced in restricted room before having to be restrained approaching the 100m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

DREAM THINKER – Bumped on jumping away.

CASTELLO GRANDE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

MOSAMOUR (NZ) – Momentarily held up for clear running passing the 250m.
 
EMPIRE OF ART (GER) - Hampered on jumping away. Held up for clear running leaving the 300m after being disappointed for a run to the inside of CHILLAXING (IRE), resulting in EMPIRE OF ART (GER) shifting out in an attempt to obtain clear running. After being unable to do so, shifted back in and across the heels of CHILLAXING (IRE) passing the 200m.


RACE 6: XXXX FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 1 HANDICAP          1350 M


NAVY NINA (NZ) – Over-raced in the early stages. When asked to comment on performance, Apprentice E. Lang reported that after being caught wide in the early stages, she was obliged to make use of her mount to obtain a leading position, which in her opinion had a detrimental effect to its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

SOME STYLE - When asked to comment on performance, Jockey A. Jones could offer no explanation for today’s disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be in season.

WAR IS BRUTAL – When asked to comment on performance, Jockey B. Thompson reported that WAR IS BRUTAL failed to respond to his riding on entering the home straight and weakened noticeably. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a post-race cough. Trainer J. Bruce was advised that a veterinary certificate with the results of an endoscopic examination would be required prior to racing again.
 
WEXFORD MISS (IRE) – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight until passing the 150m.        
 
PEACH GALANTES– Raced wide throughout.

RACE 7: LADBROKES CALCUTTA & LUNCHEON BOOK NOW COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES CLASS 1 HANDICAP          1350 M

KADESKY - Bumped with SINATRA on jumping away. When asked to comment on performance, Jockey D. Thornton could offer no explanation for today’s disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainers’ representative B. Killion reported that given today’s plain performance he would report back on the condition of the gelding in the subsequent days.
 
SUMMATION – Began awkwardly. Jockey D. Moor reported at scale that SUMMATION raced greenly throughout the event.
 
BLACK ASSASSIN – Over-raced in the middle stages whilst being restrained in an attempt to obtain cover, however after failing to settle raced wide throughout the event.

SINATRA - Bumped with KADESKY on jumping away.          When asked to comment on performance, Jockey A. Jones reported that SINATRA weakened from the 800m and failed to respond to her riding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer M. Dunn reported that given today’s plain performance he would report back on the condition of the gelding in the subsequent days. He further added that being first up, SINATRA would derive benefit from today’s performance.

RACE 8: LADBROKES BLACKBOOK BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP   1200 M

DEMITASSE – Hampered on jumping away.
 
HEYOKA -Leaving the 300m, was obliged to shift in to improve into clear running. Passing the 50m, was again held up for clear running and as a result was untested over the concluding stages.
 
SUPERHERO - Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Raced in restricted room until approaching the 200m and had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of CAPITAL HEARTand raced in restricted room over the final 100m.
 
APOLLO TEN – Began awkwardly.        
 
BULSARA – Jockey M. Hellyer reported at scale that BULSARA weakened significantly in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer M. Marsh was advised that following today’s disappointing performance, BULSARA would be required to officially trial prior to racing again. Trainer M. Marsh advised that BULSARA would now be sent for a spell.
 
ARALETTA – Over-raced in the middle stages whilst being restrained.
 
SAINT ALDWYN – Apprentice C. Sutherland reported that in his opinion SAINT ALDWYN may appreciate a step up in distance.
 
CAPITAL HEART – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Leaving the 800m, had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of ARALETTAresulting in CAPITAL HEART racing three wide for the remainder of the event. Apprentice T. Fenlon was fined $300 pursuant to AR132(6)(b) for using her whip above shoulder height.
