GENERAL
Stewards approved the following overweights:
Race 2: M. Rodd +0.5kg (55.5kg)
Race 5: Z. Purton +0.5kg (55.5kg)
Race 6: T. Berry +1kg (55kg)
As Jockey S. Cormack was not riding at today’s meeting due to transportation difficulties, he was replaced on MISSISSIPI PRINCE in Race 2 by Jockey M. Du Plessis.
Trainer A. Campton was fined $300 under LR67(1) for the late declaration of D. Moor as the rider of WIN STAR in Race 4.
Jockey M. Harley was fined $400 pursuant to AR 208(2)(b) for failing to weigh in following Race 7.
RACE 1:MORETON HIRE CLASS 6 HANDICAP 1350 M
BUNKER HUT (NZ) – Raced wide throughout.
COSMO CENTAURUS – Blundered on jumping away. Jockey Z. Purton reported that COSMO CENTAURUS failed to travel at any stage and when placed under pressure from 600m, commenced to weaken. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery and mild thumps.
VIMINELE – Slow to begin.
TRUE TO FORM (USA) – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Lost its near hind plate.
SAMMY CONQUERS ALL – Bumped on jumping away. Raced wide throughout.
CONCOCTION – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped SAMMY CONQUERS ALL.
DREAM SMART – Over-raced in the middle stages.
RACE 2:DRINKWISE BENCHMARK 85 HANDICAP 1600 M
MAHAGONI (GB) – Approaching the 300m, was obliged to alter course and shift in to improve into clear running.
GALANO – Shortly after the start was momentarily inconvenienced and had to be restrained to avoid the heels of BLAZING HARRY, which shifted out marginally.
MISSISSIPPI PRINCE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
DON'T STOP – Became fractious prior to the start being effected. Began awkwardly.
PERFECT PLAY (GB) – Raced wide. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
ECLAIR AWESOME – When asked to comment on performance, Jockey B. Thompson reported that he was obliged to settle further back than anticipated however, finished off fairly given how much ground ÉCLAIR AWESOME had to make up in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer J. Bruce advised that he was happy with today’s performance given that ÉCLAIR AWESOME was forced to settle back from the wide barrier.
NODACHI – Began awkwardly.
KALUAKOI – Bumped with KAIROS LOUIE (NZ) on jumping away.
BLAZING HARRY – Laid in over the concluding stages.
ALL KINDS OF FOLK – Approaching the 1200m, after improving onto heels, shifted wider at the point of the turn. Approaching the 50m, after becoming awkwardly placed on heels, was obliged to shift in to improve.
KAIROS LOUIE (NZ) – Bumped with KALUAKOI on jumping away.
RACE 3:XXXX QTIS 3-Y-O PLATE 1350 M
BURMA STAR – Momentarily inconvenienced leaving the 400m by TORO CHASE, which attempted to improve to that runners inside.
HIDDEN ACHIEVEMENT – Connections advised a change of tactics – attempt to settle further forward. Ridden accordingly, settled on pace. Approaching the 1200m, was hampered and carried in by ESTREMO. Over-raced in the early stages. When asked to comment on performance, Jockey J. McDonald reported that HIDDEN ACHIEVEMENT raced flat throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be lame on its off foreleg. Trainer C. Waller was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to racing again.
FABULANTES – Began awkwardly.
ESTREMO – Approaching the 1200m, was crowded by SMEXY, which was carried in by URBAN LAD, which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Near the 1100m had to check to avoid the heels of SMEXY who was again carried in by URBAN LAD. Jockey M. Harley the rider of URBAN LAD was found guilty of a charge pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding. Jockey M. Harleys license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 12 days commencing midnight 16th May and concluding midnight 28th May 2026. Jockey M. Harley was advised of his right of appeal.
KOHLER KID – Bumped by ARTISTIC VENTURE on jumping away. Accidently struck by the whip of URBAN LAD passing the 200m.
URBAN LAD – Began awkwardly.
TORO CHASE – Began awkwardly. Passing the 400m, improved into restricted room where there was insufficient room to do so, resulting in the gelding becoming awkwardly placed on heels for a short distance.
ARTISTIC VENTURE – Began awkwardly and bumped KOHLER KID. Approaching the 1200m, had to be steadied off the heels of HIDDEN ACHIEVEMENT, which was hampered and carried in by ESTREMO, which was forced in by SMEXY, which was obliged to shift in to avoid the heels of URBAN LAD which shifted in when insufficiently clear.
SMEXY – Approaching the 1200m, was hampered and carried in by URBAN LAD and again near the 1100m. Raced in restricted room for a short distance passing 150m to the inside of ESTREMO which laid in for a short distance.
RACE 4:SEVEN SPIRIT OF BOOM CLASSIC 1200 M
BOOMTOWNS – Shifted in on jumping away.
MARTIST – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the early part of the home straight. Raced in restricted room for a short distance passing the 50m between VANTORIX and DREAM ROCA (NZ).
COASTAL BOOM – Hampered on jumping away. Over-raced in the early stages. Passing the 700m, raced in restricted room for a short distance to the inside of VANTORIX, which shifted in before being corrected. Jockey J. McDonald, the rider of VANTORIXwas severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding.
LE STARCELL – Began awkwardly. Passing the 100m, was momentarily inconvenienced whilst weakening by LEAVES OF LORIEN which shifted out and away from COASTAL BOOM, which shifted out to improve.
DREAM ROCA (NZ) – Shifted out on jumping away. Approaching the winning post was momentarily inconvenienced, having its hindquarters contacted by MARTIST, which improved into a narrow run to its inside. Approaching the 200m was obliged to alter course and shift out.
DOUBLE COOL – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Approaching the 300m, shifted out marginally contacting ESPERANZA, resulting in the filly becoming awkward in its stride.
ESPERANZA – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Momentarily inconvenienced shortly after straightening.
LEAVES OF LORIEN – Approaching the 700m, had to be steadied when tightened for room by DOUBLE COOL, which attempted to improve its position between ESPORENZA and THE AUTUMN AFFAIR.
WIN STAR – Began awkwardly. Raced wide.
RACE 5:SKY RACING BERNBOROUGH HANDICAP 1600 M
FAWKNER PARK (IRE) – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages and passing the 50m, shifted out marginally before being corrected.
WELWAL (GB) – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and was obliged to shift wider passing the 250m to improve.
CRISTAL CLEAR – When asked to comment on performance, Jockey T. Berry reported that after having a favorable run during the early stages, when placed under pressure from the 600m, CRISTAL CLEAR weakened noticeably in the home straight, and was at a loss to explain the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
KRONENBOURG (NZ) – Contacted the rail leaving the mounting yard. Underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was cleared to start. Raced wide.
COTE ATLANTIQUE (IRE) – Began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. Raced in restricted room for a short distance leaving the 1350m. Raced wide. When asked to comment on performance, Apprentice J. McMurray reported that from the wide barrier he was obliged to make use of his mount early to obtain a position, which in his opinion may have had a detrimental effect on its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed clinical signs of the thumps.
WAR ETERNAL (NZ) – Laid out under pressure leaving the 200m, obliging its rider to stop and straighten.
VIKING INVASION (IRE) – Bumped on jumping away, was hampered and lost ground. Raced wide.
KINTYRE – Approaching the winning post had to be checked to avoid the heels of PRINCE LEVI, which shifted in when insufficiently clear and FAWKNER PARK (IRE) which shifted out before being corrected. Jockey M. Du Plessis the rider of PRINCE LEVI plead guilty to a charge pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding. Jockey M. Du Plessis license to ride in racing was suspended for a period of 6 days, commencing midnight 23 May and concluding midnight 29th May 2026. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account the actions of FAWKNER PARK (IRE), which shifted out and applied pressure to KINTYRE, contributing to the interference. Jockey Du Plessis was advised of his rights of appeal.
DEMON DARB – Connections advised a change of tactics – settle further forward. Settled midfield, three wide with cover. Raced wide.
THE DROVER – Became fractious in the barriers prior to the start being effected. Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early stages. Held up for clear running passing the 200m and was obliged to shift out.
PRINCE LEVI – Had difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 50m and was obliged to shift in to improve.
RACE 6:MAGIC MILLIONS BRIGHT SHADOW 1110 M
THE BLACK CLOUD – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped GIVE GIGGLES (NZ). Had difficulty obtaining clear running leaving the 250m and was obliged to shift out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
AUSTMARR – Passing the 250m became awkwardly placed on the heels of GIVE GIGGLES (NZ) and was obliged to alter course and shift in in order to improve.
POSTER GIRL – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages and approaching the winning post became awkwardly placed at the heels of ZOUPERB, which was carried out marginally by CIGAR FLICK, which laid out under pressure.
CIGAR FLICK - Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
GIVE GIGGLES (NZ) – Bumped on jumping away. Laid out under pressure in the early part of the home straight.
NEPO BABY – A post-race veterinary examination revealed cardiac arrhythmia. Co-trainer A. Archibald was advised that NEPO BABY will require a veterinary clearance inclusive of ECG and a 1000m gallop prior to racing again.
SAVAGERY VIBE – Approaching the 1000m, had to be steadied when racing in restricted room to the inside of EN POINTE, which shifted in before being corrected. Leaving the 700m, had to be steadied when tightened for room by POSTER GIRL, which became awkwardly placed at the heels of ZOUPERB, which shifted in before being corrected. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. When attempting to shift out passing the 200m, raced in restricted room for a short distance.
SHE'S EXOTIC – Slow to begin.
RACE 7:JRA CHAIRMAN'S HANDICAP 2000 M
FUTURE HISTORY (GB) – Raced wide.
MIDDLE EARTH (GB) – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
ALALCANCE (GB) – Raced wide in the early stages and was allowed to stride forward to obtain a position with cover near the 900m.
ROYAL SUPREMACY (IRE) – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
SEA KING (GB) – Jockey Z. Purton reported that SEA KING weakened from the 600m and at the 450m, he became concerned with the gelding’s action and as a result elected to restrain his mount out of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a post-race cough. Trainer M. Dunn was advised that a veterinary certificate inclusive of endoscopic results would be required prior to racing again.
NELLIE LEYLAX (IRE) - Made the point of the turn passing the wining post on the first occasion awkwardly. Had difficulty obtaining clear running leaving the 200m. Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages to the inside of ROYAL SUPREMACY (IRE) which laid in under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed minor lacerations to its near foreleg.
WALSH BAY – Became awkwardly placed on heels passing the 400m when attempting to shift out to improve. Passing the 150m, was obliged to shift in to improve into clear running.
BELVEDERE BOYS - Slow to begin. Approaching the 400m was obliged to alter course after improving onto the heels of WALSH BAY which was awkwardly placed at the heels of the weakening SEA KING. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight, was obliged to shift out approaching the 200m and raced in restricted room for a short distance.
ZOOLOGY (GB) - Obliged to alter course approaching the 100m after becoming awkwardly placed at the heels of WALSH BAY, which shifted out to improve.
SO YOU ARE – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and was obliged to shift out to improve. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
RACE 8:LADBROKES DOOMBEN 10,000 1200 M
JIMMYSSTAR (NZ) – Hampered at the start. Raced in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 800m. Leaving the 200m was obliged to alter course after improving onto the heels of ZARASTRO which shifted in to improve. When asked to comment on performance, Jockey E. Brown reported that the tempo of today’s race may not have suited JIMMYSSTAR, however, was pleased with the overall performance of the gelding.
ANOTHER WIL – Momentarily inconvenienced when racing in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 800m.
ROTHFIRE - Shifted in at the start. Raced wide.
UNCOMMON JAMES – Carried in at the start. Raced wide.
RESERVE BANK – Began awkwardly, contacted the outside barrier partition and lost ground. Hampered leaving the 800m when racing in restricted room
PRIVATE HARRY – When asked to comment on performance, Jockey T. Berry reported that PRIVATE HARRY may not have appreciated today’s track conditions and proved disappointing when placed under pressure. Trainers’ representative B. Killion advised that consideration would be placed into the immediate future racing plans of PRIVATE HARRY.
WARNIE (IRE) – Raced in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 400m.
ZARASTRO – Slipped leaving the mounting yard. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination behind the barriers and was cleared to start.
GRAFTERBURNERS – When asked to comment on todays performance, Jockey Z. Purton reported that GRAFTERBURNERS was worked up prerace. He added that his mount commenced to weaken for the 600m and was disappointing in its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery and clinical signs of the thumps. Trainer K Schweida reported that he would report back on the condition of the colt in the subsequent days.
SKYBIRD – Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight and passing the 200m had to be steadied after becoming awkwardly placed on heels and was forced to shift out to improve.
NAPOLEONIC – Bumped shortly after the start. Raced wide.
ESJAY – Checked and lost ground at the start. Over-raced in the middle stages.
RACE 9:HKJC WORLD POOL ROUGH HABIT PLATE 2000 M
ONE STEP CLOSER – Approaching the 200m, was contacted by TAMBELOA and was buffeted on a number of occasions. When asked to comment on performance, Jockey M. Zahra reported that in his opinion ONE STEP CLOSER was not suited by the tempo of today’s race and was one paced throughout.
PROVIDENCE – Connections advised a change of tactic – attempt to settle midfield. Ridden accordingly.
TAMBELOA – Raced wide. Approaching the 200m, shifted out contacting ONE STEP CLOSER.
SOUTHERN PRINCE – Carried in approaching the 200m by ACCIDENTAL BID (GB) which laid in under pressure.
DEFENDANT - Connections advised a change of tactic – attempt to settle further forward. Settled midfield.
ACCIDENTAL BID (GB) – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
