GENERAL
 
Trainer R. Beaton was fined $200 pursuant to LR 36(6)(a) for failing to scratch ODIN’S MOUNT by the prescribed time which was a dual acceptor in races 7 and 8.
 
Trainer T. Mackinnon was fined $100 under LR67(1) for the late declaration of M. Rodd as the rider of BUCKENARA in Race 8.
 
Stewards accepted the reasons for Apprentice J. McMurray being unable to fulfil his riding engagement on TRAPEDO in Race 8 and he was replaced as per the race day summary.
 
Following the running of Race 4, Jockey R. Maloney was examined by the Official Club Doctor and stood down from the remainder of his riding engagements. Jockey R. Maloney was advised that a medical certificate would be required prior to riding again. Jockey R. Maloney was replaced as per the Stewards Summary.
 

RACE 1: GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN PLATE 1350M
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey C. Graham the rider of 3rd placed ARCTIC BRIGHT (NZ) to view the official footage of the home straight. After doing so, Jockey C. Graham elected not to lodge an objection, and correct weight was declared on the Judges’ numbers.
 
ARCELIA (FR) – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped LONTARA. Over-raced approaching the 900m and had to be steadied from heels. Raced wide.
 
SATURDAYS GIRL – Raced in restricted room near the 900m. Near the 700m, had to be checked from the heels of PFEIFFER'S KISS. Laid in near the 300m. Approaching the 200m, was obliged to shift out in order to improve.
 
ARCTIC BRIGHT (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Leaving the 800m became unbalanced when being restrained as the pace of the race slackened. Shifted out whilst over-racing near the 700m.  Leaving the 100m, was inconvenienced and carried wider for a short distance by WOOT WOOT, which shifted out under pressure.
 
JUSTA BARTY – Connections advised a change of tactics – settle further forward. Ridden accordingly. Raced wide throughout.  
 
LONTARA – Shifted out on jumping away and bumped ARCTIC BRIGHT (NZ).
 
MILITARY LEGEND – Buffeted on jumping away. Near the 800m, had to be checked from the heels of ARCTIC BRIGHT (NZ).
 
PFEIFFER'S KISS – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Over-raced in the early stages. Near the 700m, had to be steadied after becoming severely crowded between ARCTIC BRIGHT (NZ), which shifted out whilst over-racing and DARE TO LOVE, which shifted in and away from JUSTA BARTY. Near the 250m had its hindquarters bumped by URBAN PRINCESS.
 
SO ELUSIVE – Inconvenienced shortly after jumping away.
 
TASSORATI – Raced wide. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey B. Thompson advised that his intention was to race in a forward position however, after a number of other runners improved to his inside, he was obliged to settle in a position further back than expected. He further added that the filly, when placed under pressure, did not quicken as expected which he attributed to TASSORATI not appreciating today’s soft track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
URBAN PRINCESS – Near the 700m had to be steadied when racing in restricted room. Raced in restricted room leaving the 300m, shifted in and contacted the hindquarters of PFEIFFER'S KISS after being bumped by SATURDAYS GIRL.
 
WOOT WOOT– Shifted out under pressure leaving the 100m.
 
After the running of this race, Stewards downgraded the track to a Soft 7 at 12:20pm.
 
RACE 2: BECOME A BRC MEMBER COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE 1350M
 
BIVONGI BOY – Buffeted shortly after the start.
 
FUTURE HERO – Began awkwardly.
 
ROSA KISS – Bumped with MANSORY (NZ) shortly after the start. Over-raced in the middle stages. Held up rounding the home turn until approaching the 250m.
 
HARD KNOX – Began awkwardly.
 
MANSORY (NZ) – Bumped with ROSA KISS shortly after the start. Near the 700m commenced to over-race and improved onto the heels of SWITZ resulting in the gelding shifting out and bumping MEADE'S CAFÉ.
 
MEADE'S CAFÉ - Buffeted shortly after the start.
 
RACE 3: SKY RACING QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1200M
 
The start of this event was slightly delayed owing to RUN LIKE A GIRL becoming fractious in the barriers. Subsequently was backed out, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
 
CHAYSE 'N' POP – Near the 1100m inconvenienced and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of DOUBLE COOL, which shifted out and away from IT'S ALLABOUT ME. Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Raced wide throughout.
 
HOT SUN – Began awkwardly and was bumped.
 
IT'S ALLABOUT ME – Began awkwardly and bumped DOUBLE COOL. Near the 1100m commenced to over-race and continued to do so for some distance.
 
RULE THE NIGHT – Began awkwardly and bumped HOT SUN. Held up rounding the home turn. Near the 250m, when attempting a narrow run to the inside of NO WALLET REG, became unbalanced.
 
DOUBLE COOL – Bumped on jumping away. Near the 1100m, shifted out and away from IT'S ALLABOUT ME which commenced to over-race. Raced wide with cover from the 800m. Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor reported at scale that DOUBLE COOL may not have appreciated today’s soft track conditions.
 
DRIVE TO ZOUVIVE - Raced wide throughout.
 
RUN LIKE A GIRL – Shifted out under pressure near the 50m, resulting in its rider having to stop and straighten.
 
READY TO BOIL – Slow to begin.
 
ESCAPE PLAN – Slow to begin.
 
 
RACE 4: LADBROKES STRADBROKE CALCUTTA BOOK NOW BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 2200M
 
The start of this event was delayed approximately 5 mins owing to CAPTAIN MAVERICK (IRE) casting its near fore plate enroute to the barriers. Subsequently the plate was refitted by the farrier, with the gelding undergoing a veterinary examination before being cleared to start.
 
RATTLE AND HUM (IRE) – Reared prior to the start being effected and as a result, began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid in from the 600m and continued to lay in in the home straight, proving difficult for its rider to fully test. When asked to comment on performance, Apprentice B. Osmond reported that after beginning awkwardly was obliged to settle further back, which in his opinion did not suit RATTLE AND HUM (IRE). A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
CANBERRA LEGEND (IRE) – Lost its near fore plate.
 
THE IRISH (IRE) – Bumped on entering the home straight by HIGHGROVE ROSE.

CAPTAIN MAVERICK (IRE) – Jockey R. Maloney reported at scale that CAPTAIN MAVERICK (IRE) wanted to hang in from the 1200m. Held up rounding the home turn until the 250m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
OUR TURN NOW (NZ) – Hampered shortly after jumping away.
 
HIGHGROVE ROSE – Bumped shortly after the start. On entering the home straight, shifted out in an attempt to secure clear running and bumped THE IRISH (IRE).
 
MONTEVECCHIO – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after having raced at the Gold Coast 22/05/26 and was cleared to start.
 
 
RACE 5: XXXX GOLD CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1110M
 
DYAMI – When asked to comment on performance, Apprentice B. Osmond reported that the gelding was first up from a spell and was inclined to race keenly up on the speed, which contributed to DYAMI failing to finish the event off as expected. He further added that in his opinion, the gelding would derive benefit from today’s race.
 
SHE OURS - Began awkwardly and shifted out. Raced wide.  
 
CANTANKEROUS – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority. When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice F. Sandkuhl reported that in her opinion, CANTANKEROUS may not have appreciated today’s soft track conditions. Trainer M. Hoysted agreed with Apprentice F. Sandkuhls’ comment. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
DA SNOOP DOG – Raced wide. Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester reported at scale that DA SNOOP DOG was inclined to lay out from the 700m. Laid out under pressure in the home straight and was eased down by its rider over the final 150m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer S. Foster was advised that DA SNOOP DOG would be required to officially trial prior to racing again. Trainer S. Foster reported that DA SNOOP DOG would be gelded in the near future.
 
ICED CHOCOLATE – Declared a late scratching at 12:47pm due to the track downgrade.
 
MINOR KEY – Held up rounding the home turn. Near the 250m shifted in and away from BETTER NOT SLIP.
 
BERTUS – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Held up rounding the home turn. Near the 250m was obliged to alter course and shift out in order to improve.
 
DAZZLING DIAMOND – Shifted out on jumping away and bumped THE SOUR.
 
BETTER NOT SLIP – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Jockey D. Moor reported at scale that his intention was to settle in a forward position however after beginning only fairly from the outside draw he elected to restrain and take up a position closer to the rail.
 
THE SOUR – Shifted in on jumping and bumped DAZZLING DIAMOND.
 
 
RACE 6: MULLINS LAWYERS BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 1200M
 
BEAUX RUMBLE – Bumped shortly after the start.
 
SET TO SHINE – Obliged the shift out approaching the 300m in order to improve.
 
CLICK CLICK BOOM - Bumped shortly after the start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
 
LADY LUCIFER – Raced wide.
 
PARTY SPIRIT – Reared as the start was effected and bumped ALPHA BRAVO. When asked to comment on performance, Jockey B. Thompson reported that having not raced for a month, PARTY SPIRIT was fresh prior to the start being effected and as a consequence, missed the start and was obliged to settle further back in the field which in his opinion did not suit the mare. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
 
 
RACE 7: CRICKS HIGHWAY BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1630M
 
FALCON OF MALTA – Raced wide.
 
SMART AS SMART – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
SWEET PROPOSAL – Raced wide.
 
GREAT ASPIRATIONS (NZ) – Over-raced in the early stages.
 
ZAHER (NZ)– Slow to begin.
 
EL PENSADOR – When questioned regarding leading today’s event Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor advised it was not his intention to lead however, he did not want to settle back in the field with today’s heavy track conditions and from the wide barrier he endeavored to secure a position midfield however it became apparent in the early stages that he would not be able to find a position close to the rail so he allowed his mount to stride forward to a position in the lead. When questioned regarding the vigor shown over the concluding stages, Jockey K. Wilson – Taylor explained due to the wet track conditions his goggles had filled with water and his vision had become compromised, which resulted in him misjudging the finishing line. Stewards were comfortably satisfied that his actions did not compromise his mount finishing in a higher position and given the wet conditions Stewards accepted the explanation tendered.
 
POCKETMONEY – Approaching the 500m, improved onto the heels of GREAT ASPIRATIONS (NZ) and was then held up until the 300m point. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey A. Butler reported that in his opinion POCKETMONEY may not have appreciated today’s soft track conditions.
 
JUNE – Shifted out near the 1200m and permitted to stride forward to a position outside of the lead near the 900m. Jockey D. Moor reported at scale that  when the pace of the race slackened near the 1200m his mount began to race keenly and for this reason he allowed his mount to improve around the field to obtain a position outside the lead near the 900m.
 
CAST PARTY (GB) – Near the 400m raced in restricted room and had to be steadied when positioned to the inside of POCKETMONEY which shifted in when awkwardly placed at heels. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey B. Thompson reported that he was obliged to settle in a position further back than anticipated and in his opinion may not have appreciated today’s soft track conditions.
 
ODIN'S MOUNT – Over-raced near the 1200m and had to be steadied.
 
Following significant rain passing through the vicinity of the racecourse during the running of this race, Stewards downgraded the track to Heavy 8 at 3:42pm.
 
RACE 8: LADBROKES MATES MODE CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1350M
 
SUPERHERO – Raced wide.
 
AUTOMNE TREE – When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey J. Bayliss reported that in his opinion AUTOMNE TREE didn’t appreciate today’s heavy track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
BUCKENARA - Declared a late scratching at 3:46pm due to the track downgrade.
 
TRAPEDO - Declared a late scratching at 3:48pm due to the track downgrade.Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on TRAPEDObe refunded with the following deductions to apply:
 
1st STATE OPERA 5c win, 5c place
2nd HELLO LOVELY 5c place
3rd SHERAQUAY 5c place
 
RIEZ SOUVENT – When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor reported that in his opinion RIEZ SOUVET may not have appreciated today’s heavy track conditions. Lost its near fore plate.

POWER REECE - Raced wide.
 
BOLSHEVIC ROAD - Raced wide.
 
Following the running of this race and further heavy rain passing through the vicinity of the racecourse, Stewards downgraded the track to a Heavy 10 retrospective of Race 8.
