GENERAL
 
As Apprentice R. Thorburn was ill and not riding at today’s meeting, he was replaced on MADAME DOUBTFIRE by Apprentice M. Philpot. Apprentice R. Thorburn was advised that a medical certificate would be required prior to riding again.
 
Race 1 - BECOME A BRC MEMBER MAIDEN PLATE          1650 M
 
KALAMIA KING – Bumped rounding the home turn. Jockey B. Wheeler was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out to the finishing line.
 
STEADY ON – Shifted in on jumping away, bumping WILD BEAN and as a result, STEADY ON had its hindquarters turned out momentarily,

WILD BEAN – Bumped on jumping away by BOSSIRI and STEADY ON and as a result, WILD BEAN had to be steadied and lost ground. Jockey L. Tilley reported at scale that the gelding was inclined to over-race approaching the 1000m.

BOSSIRI – Shifted out on jumping away, bumping WILD BEAN and as a result, BOSSIRI had its hindquarters turned in and became unbalanced for several strides.
 
HIGHLAND KITTY – Raced wide until near the 1000m.        
 
URBAN PRINCESS – Laid in rounding the home turn and bumped with KALAMIA KING. Inclined to lay in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

WINGEANDWIN (NZ) – Had difficulty obtaining clear running from the home turn until approaching the 200m.


Race 2 - MEKKA RACEDAY 22 AUGUST QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE        1350 M
 
BINTANG TIGER – Became fractious as the start was effected, harmlessly dislodging Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester in the barriers. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer P. Campbell was advised that a further barrier certificate would be required prior to racing again.
 
DRAGON MAGIC – Jockey M. Rodd was fined $100 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(i) for using his whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m. 
 
GRIEVE ROAD (NZ) – Commenced to over-race and improved onto heels near the 900m. Continued to race keenly for some distance. Laid in in the early part of the home straight and bumped with TED LASSO

TED LASSO – Began awkwardly. Held up rounding the home turn. Bumped in the early part of the home straight.

MADAME DOUBTFIRE – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Steadied from heels near the 900m. Improved onto heels near the 700m and had to be steadied.

Race 3 - THE GIBSON MAIDEN HANDICAP    1350 M
 
MOSCOW MULE (NZ) - Jockey B. Thompson reported at scale that in his opinion MOSCOW MULE (NZ) would appreciate a step up in distance.
 
KUIA MA – Apprentice L. Martyn was reminded of her obligations to fully test her mounts through the finishing line.

ST ANDREWS – Began awkwardly.      
 
PROPHET OF DESTINY – Steadied from heels near the 700m.
 

Race 4 - SKY RACING BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1650 M
 
FLYING BAT – Began awkwardly.
 
CARNEGIE HILL -   Apprentice J. McMurray was fined $200 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(i) for using his whip in consecutive strides on three occasions prior to the 100m.
 
EMPIRE OF ART (GER) – Improved onto heels near the 400m before shifting wider to obtain clear running.

GAGNANTE ENCHERE – Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Taken wider near the 700m when WOUNDER (NZ) shifted out to improve.

MOSAMOUR (NZ) – Connections advised a change of tactics – settle further forward. Slow to begin and settled midfield.
 
WOUNDER (NZ) – Approaching the 600m, steadied from the heels of CARNEGIE HILL, which shifted out. Apprentice J. McMurray, the rider of CARNEGIE HILL, was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground to improve. Had difficulty obtaining clear running from the 500m until the 400m. Jockey E. Lang was fined $300 pursuant to AR132(6)(b) for using her whip above shoulder height.


Race 5 - COUNTRY MUSIC RACEDAY 15 AUGUST CLASS 3 HANDICAP   2060 M
 
DIAMOND SHOW (NZ) – Near the 500m, became awkwardly placed at the heels of the weakening RUGBY, causing DIAMOND SHOW (NZ) to be severely checked and lose ground.

RUGBY – When asked to comment on leading today’s event, Jockey M. Hellyer reported that after beginning well, he elected to allow his mount to stride forward and take up a leading position rather than being caught wide. Approaching the 600m, commenced to weaken and took no further competitive part in the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer N. Keal was advised that RUGBY would require a veterinary clearance, inclusive of ECG results and a satisfactory cardiac auscultation veterinary report post gallop of at least 1000m prior to being permitted to race again.

TRUMP CARD (NZ) - Leaving the 600m became awkwardly placed on heels and shifted wider when DIAMOND SHOW (NZ) was inconvenienced by the weakening RUGBY.
 
LORD PROTECTOR (NZ) – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to having raced at the Sunshine Coast 02/08/26 and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly. Hampered near the 500m.


Race 6 - DRINKWISE COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES CLASS 1 HANDICAP         1200 M
 
DYAMI - Laid in near the 700m and had to be steadied.
 
TEELG – Reared as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. Laid out rounding the home turn. Trainer M. Hoysted was advised that a warning would now be placed on the gelding in relation to its barrier manners.
 
ABRAHAM – Held up approaching the home turn.

SWIFT DUKE – Had difficulty obtaining clear running approaching the home turn.

LA PROFECIA - Carried out over the final 50m by SWIFT DUKE. Jockey D. Peisley, the rider of SWIFT DUKE, was advised to stop and straighten his mounts when shifting ground in similar circumstances.


Race 7 - XXXX GOLD FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 1 HANDICAP   1200 M
 
STRADA VARENNA - Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped MEHRETU. Raced wide.

SHE OURS - Began awkwardly and bumped ICED CHOCOLATE. Raced wide. Bumped with CAPITAL CHORD rounding the home turn. Near the 250m, was bumped and became unbalanced when CAPITAL CHORD was carried out by DON'T DOUBT MISSY.
 
VANESSI – Held up until leaving the 300m. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. Jockey J. Bayliss was fined $200 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(i) for using his whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
 
 
CAPITAL CHORD – Bumped with SHE OURS rounding the home turn. Near the 250m, was severely hampered by DON'T DOUBT MISSY, which shifted out to improve. Jockey M. Rodd the rider of DON'T DOUBT MISSY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a), the particulars being that near the 250m, he directed his mount out in an attempt to secure clear running to the outside of MYTHOLOGY (B. Thompson), initiating contact with CAPITAL CHORD, causing CAPITAL CHORD to be tightened onto the hindquarters of SHE OURS (C. Bellamy) and as a result CAPITAL CHORD was severely hampered and lost its rightful running. Jockey M. Rodd’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days commencing midnight 9th August and concluding midnight 18th August 2026.
 
DON'T DOUBT MISSY – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight. Attempted to shift out near the 250m, contacting CAPITAL CHORD and as a result became unbalanced.
 
MEHRETU – Bumped on jumping away. Had difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 100m.
 
MYTHOLOGY – Began awkwardly.       
 
MANDRIANA (NZ) - Raced wide.

ICED CHOCOLATE – Began awkwardly and bumped SHE OURS.
 
KATIE AINE – Held up rounding the home turn. Steadied from heels near the 250m.
 
GEITZ – Slow to begin and lost ground. Raced wide.


Race 8 - LADBROKES ODDS SURGE CLASS 3 HANDICAP          1350 M

LOVEY DOVEY – Stood flat footed as the start was effected and lost ground. Trainer’s Representative B. Killion was advised that a warning would now be placed on the mare in relation to its barrier manners.

ARTFUL PERSUASION - Slow to begin. Bumped near the 500m.

POSSIBILITIES – Near the 500m, had to be steadied from the heels of LAND BANK, which shifted out to improve. Jockey B. Thompson, the rider of LAND BANK, was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding. Held up rounding the home turn until leaving the 100m.
 
CAMBRIDGE BAY – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Held up near the 200m when TOO HOT TO TORQUE commenced to weaken.
