GENERAL
Trainer M. Hoysted was fined $200 under LR67(1) for the late declaration of J. Guthmann-Chester as the rider of HEADHUNTER in Race 8.
Trainer B. Healy was reprimanded under LR68(1) for failing to scratch CITY GOLD FIELD from Race 5 by the prescribed time.
Race 1 - BECOME A BRC MEMBER MAIDEN PLATE 1350 M
The start of this event was delayed approximately 2 mins owing to KONIGSTEIN being presented to the mounting yard with the saddle and gear of stablemate SIR ARROGONCE. Subsequently, Stewards directed that both saddles be brought back to the scales area for re-weighing. B. Killion, representing the C. Waller stable, pleaded guilty on behalf of C. Waller to a charge pursuant to AR 106(1) and a fine of $800 was issued for presenting KONIGSTEIN and SIR ARROGANCE to race with the incorrect saddle and saddlecloth.
INDAMOUSE – Approaching the 1200m, was tightened for room to the inside of HARU, which was taken in by EMPHATIQUE, which shifted in. Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester, the rider of EMPHATIQUE was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding. Inclined to lay out rounding the home turn and under pressure in the home straight.
KONIGSTEIN – Connections advised a change of tactics – settle further forward. Ridden accordingly. Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped WELCOME ADVICE. Raced wide.
PHOENIX LEGEND - Restrained from the wide barrier to take up a position closer to the rail.
SAN JERONIMO – Began awkwardly and was bumped. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer L. Mayfield-Smith was advised of the provisions of AR79(4).
ST ANDREWS – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Over-raced in the early stages when following SIR ARROGONCE, which was steadied.
EMPHATIQUE – Had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight until the 200m.
HARU– Over-raced significantly in the early and middle stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer T. Gollan was advised that a warning would now be placed on the mare in relation to its racing manners.
WELCOME ADVICE – Bumped on jumping away.
SIR ARROGONCE– Bumped with SPIRIT OF ST LOUIS on jumping away.
SPIRIT OF ST LOUIS – Bumped with SIR ARROGONCE on jumping away. Over-raced for a short distance passing the 1000m when restraining to obtain cover. Jockey M. Rodd reported at scale that with the addition of blinkers first time, the gelding was inclined to over-race.
Race 2 - GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB MAIDEN PLATE 1350 M
BAD BOSS – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped ZEPHYR SONG.
INDIGO STAR - Connections advised a change of tactics – settle further forward. Ridden accordingly.
LAW AND ORDER – Shifted in, bumped MAJESTIC MORN and was then hampered.
AGADOO – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was found to be lame on its off foreleg. Subsequently was declared a late scratching at 11:54am. Trainer A. Nunn was advised that AGADOO would require a veterinary certificate prior to racing again.
BEV'S SPECIAL – Shifted in on jumping away.
MAJESTIC MORN – Bumped on jumping away.
WEE WINN – Shifted out on jumping away and bumped MAJESTIC MORN.
ZEPHYR SONG – Trainer C. Geran was fined $100 pursuant AR 106(1) for presenting ZEPHYR SONG to the mounting yard without a tongue tie or pre-race earmuffs which were part of its declared gear. Bumped on jumping away. Over-raced whilst leading.
RUSSIAN DAHLIA – Kicked the rail in the mounting yard and subsequently underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was cleared to start. Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
Race 3 - DRINKWISE QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD FILLIES MAIDEN PLATE 1200 M
The start of this event was delayed approximately 3 mins owing to COMPEL being fractious enroute to the barriers. Co. Trainer C. Munce was advised that a warning would now be placed on the filly in relation to its pre-race manners.
EASY FEELING – Blundered on jumping away.
HANG UP - Trainer L. White was fined $100 pursuant AR 106(1) for presenting HANG UP to the mounting yard without winkers which were part of its declared gear. Slow to begin.
METRIC – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
MISS MIRAGE – Raced greenly throughout. Passing the 900m, it was noted by its rider that the bit had been pulled through to the off side of its mouth. Near the 800m, shifted out and raced wide from that point onwards. Jockey G. Cartwright reported that the filly was inclined to hang out.
MOET LISA – Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Shifted out under pressure near the 150m, causing its rider to stop riding and straighten.
WIN STAR – Began awkwardly. Held up rounding the home turn.
EMBER ROYALE - Slow to begin.
SOVEREIGN STYLE – Raced wide.
Race 4 - XXXX GOLD QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD COLTS AND GELDINGS MAIDEN PLATE 1200 M
CAPTAIN BLOOD – Over-raced approaching the 800m.
TOMMY TIE – Steadied from heels approaching the 800m when THREEEYEDWITCH shifted in.
WEOWNACHEVY – Began awkwardly and bumped with CRAZY EIGHTS and a short distance later was tightened for room and had to be checked between VUKAS and CRAZY EIGHTS, when that horse was taken in by CAPTAIN BLOOD, which shifted in. Improved onto heels and had to be steadied near the 800m and again near the 600m.
When questioned regarding the tactics adopted today, in particular settling back in the field and her riding in the home straight, Apprentice B. Youngberry, in the presence of Apprentice Mentor S. Scriven, explained that her instructions had been to ride in a forward position, however, after being hampered on jumping away and becoming awkwardly placed on heels, she was obliged to settle further back in the field than anticipated. She further added that WEOWNACHEVY was inclined to race greenly and that rounding the home turn after improving to the inside of CEDRELA and following TOMMY TIE, she observed that CRAZY EIGHTS, had commenced to improve on the inside and felt there would be opportunity to improve with that horse closer to the fence. Shortly after entering the home straight, and whilst held up for clear running, improved onto the heels of LUNANIC and following this, attempted to shift further to the inside, however shortly after, VUKAS began weakening quickly and as a result, her mount was again obliged to steady to avoid that horses’ heels before shifting back to the outside near the 100m to secure clear running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer A. Parramore advised that the instructions were to settle in a handy position, however after receiving interference at the start, in his opinion the gelding was inclined to race greenly with an apprentice rider, and he was not overly critical of the ride. Stewards noted the explanation, however, advised Apprentice Youngberry that whilst her actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances, in hindsight she had erred in her decision leaving the 600m in committing to the inside of CEDRELA rather than follow that runner which would have given opportunity to secure clear running to the outside.
LUNANIC – Approaching the 100m, improved onto the heels of the weakening CAPTAIN BLOOD and as a result was obliged to shift in to secure clear running.
TOO MANY CHIEFS – Stood flat-footed as the start was effected and took no competitive part in the event. Trainer B. Baker was advised that the gelding would be required to gain a further barrier certificate.
CEDRELA – After passing the 600m, shifted wider to improve.
Race 5 - FAMILY RACEDAY BOOK NOW CLASS 1 PLATE 1110 M
DYAMI– Near the 900m, put in an awkward stride and become unbalanced.
QUICKZOU – Over the concluding stages was taken out by TASMAN BAY, which shifted out under pressure.
CAPITAL QUICK CHORD – Bumped on jumping away. Slow to muster early speed.
MISS VADER – Jockey Y. Lewis reported that MISS VADER raced greenly between runners.
TASMAN BAY – Laid out under pressure.
VANESSI – Stable representative for C. Waller, B. Killion was fined $100 pursuant AR 106(1) for presenting VANESSI to the mounting yard with a tongue tie which was not part of its declared gear. Raced wide throughout. Laid in over the concluding stages.
ERIMAR - Bumped on jumping away. Raced wide throughout. Placed in restricted room over the concluding stages when racing to the inside of VANESSI, which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.
CRYPTIC BEAUTY - Over the concluding stages was obliged to steady when tightened for room between ERIMAR and QUICKZOU, which was taken out by TASMAN BAY, which shifted out under pressure. Jockey A. Allen, the rider of TASMAN BAY, was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding as a result of this incident.
LA PROFECIA - Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Bumped over the concluding stages when ERIMAR shifted out after being placed in restricted room. Had difficulty obtaining clear running for a short distance after the 200m.
Race 6 - SKY RACING CLASS 5 HANDICAP 1660 M
BATTLETON – Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Steadied over the concluding stages when placed in restricted room to the inside of BOONDOCKS, which was taken in by BLUEPINOT.
BLUEPINOT – Shifted in under pressure over the concluding stages.
LOVEY DOVEY - Slow to begin.
VIXENETTE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
RING BEARER – Raced wide throughout.
Race 7 - CENTURY POOLS CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1200 M
CUTEPI – Laid out for a short distance leaving the 900m whilst being restrained. Improved onto heels near the 150m and shifted in to secure clear running.
MISS FUNNY HONEY – Raced wide throughout.
IT'S RAINING AGAIN – Jockey C. Graham reported that IT'S RAINING AGAIN was inclined to over-race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor recovery.
KIWI RAIDER (NZ) – Jockey E. Lang reported that in her opinion, KIWI RAIDER (NZ) may appreciate a drop back in distance.
BLUISH HUE - Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages. Had difficulty obtaining clear running from the 300m until shifting wider near the 150m.
Race 8 - LADBROKES PLACE EXTRA BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1350 M
RIMBAUD - Laid out under pressure over the final 100m.
ARTFUL PERSUASION – Over-raced in the early stages.
HURRICANE LU – Laid in over the concluding stages.
