Stewards approved the following overweight:
 
Race 5: M. Aitken +0.5kg (56kg)
 
Trainer D. Maher was fined $100 under LR 67(1) for the late declaration of Apprentice J. Williams as the rider of STANISLAUS in Race 7
 
Stewards accepted the explanation for Trainer D. Maher failing to scratch STANISLAUS by the prescribed time which was a dual acceptor in races 5 and 7.
 
Trainer P. Bobic was fined $100 pursuant to LR 37(6)(a) for failing to scratch GALPIN by the prescribed time which was a dual acceptor in races 6 and 7.
 
Following the running of Race 2, Apprentice J. Williams was examined by the Official Club doctor and cleared to fulfil his remaining riding engagements.
 
Race 1 - GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB RATINGS BAND 0 - 65 HANDICAP   1615 M

DIVIL A BIT – A post-race veterinary examination revealed an abrasion to its near fore fetlock.
 
ZAHER (NZ) - Slow to begin. Approaching the 1200m, momentarily raced in restricted room. Apprentice R. Thorburn reported at scale that in his opinion, ZAHER (NZ) may not have appreciated the tempo of today’s event and proved disappointing.  

ALFA DUNDEE - Slow to begin.
 
DATA LEAK – Over-raced in the middle stages.         
 
SLIPSAIN – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the middle stages. When asked to comment on performance, Apprentice J. Williams reported that in his opinion, SLIPSAIN may appreciate a step up in distance and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Co. Trainer W. Hulbert advised Stewards that in his opinion, the tempo of today’s race did not suit SLIPSAIN, and it was the intention of the stable to trial the gelding over further ground before being sent for spell.
 
FLAXLANDS – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
ALWAYS A RAINBOW – Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey M. Rodd reported at scale that ALWAYS A RAINBOW over-raced in the early stages and proved difficult to settle.

MAPLE DOOR - Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority. 


Race 2 - BECOME A BRC MEMBER BENCHMARK 85 HANDICAP   2020 M
 
CAVALRY MAN – Raced wide for the majority. Over-raced in the early stages. Passing the 1100m, when the pace of the race slackened, became awkwardly placed on the heels of FELIX THE SCAT, and shifted out. Raced wide for the majority. Apprentice J. Williams was fined $400 pursuant to AR 131(b) for failing to ride his mount to the finish line.

FELIX THE SCAT – Approaching the 1000m, after becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of DIVINE PURPOSE, was obliged to shift in before being able to maneuver to a position outside of the lead.

LIVALITTLE (NZ) - Slow to begin.
 
BATTLETON – Slow to begin. Leaving the 1200m, shifted wider to improve. Jockey M. Harley reported at scale that in his opinion, BATTLETON would appreciate racing over less distance than today’s event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Stewards intend to speak with Jockey M. Harley regarding leaving the racecourse without permission.
 
DIVINE PURPOSE – Momentarily inconvenienced, when racing in restricted room passing the 150m.
 
DIAMOND SHOW (NZ) – Raced in restricted room passing the winning post on the first occasion. Passing the 200m, was obliged to steady to avoid the heels of FELIX THE SCAT, which was carried out by CAVALRY MAN, which shifted out under riding. Apprentice J. Williams the rider of CAVALRY MAN, was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding and advised to make greater effort and stop and straighten his mounts when shifting ground.


Race 3 - XXXX BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP   1615 M
 
GALANO – Over-raced in the early and middle stages.

LAST COMMAND – Held up from the 150m and was unable to be tested at any stage.
 
PERFECT PLAY (GB) – Blundered on jumping away. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

LIBERTY PARK (NZ) - When asked to comment, Stable Representative B. Killion reported that it was the decision of the stable to commence this preparation over the mile, following two trials and a pleasing mid-week jump out. He further added that the gelding showed good form last preparation and he was not surprised with today’s forward showing.

BARBRAY – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running leaving the 300m and was unable to be tested at any stage in the home straight.


Race 4 - DRINKWISE OPEN HANDICAP         1615 M
 
SUN WORSHIPPER - Hampered on jumping away. Momentarily inconvenienced shortly after the start when awkwardly placed at the heels of NOBLE CONQUEROR.
 
NOBLE CONQUEROR – Shifted out on jumping away. Bumped with PRINCE LEVI shortly after the start. Over-raced in the early and middle stages.

CUNNAMULLA FELLA – Lost its off fore plate.
 
PRINCE LEVI – Bumped by NOBLE CONQUEROR shortly after the start. Over-raced in the early stages.

NAILS MURPHY (IRE) – Approaching the 1300m, had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of EXPRESS PAYMENT, whilst over-racing.     

Race 5 - CBT COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP      1110 M
 
MEAN APPROACH – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.       

GRAM – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
STREAK OF WINNING – Began awkwardly. Passing the 900m, when attempting to shift into a position closer to the rail, was obliged to alter course, shift back out, and became unbalanced. Raced wide throughout.

PROVANCE – Hampered on jumping away.
 
SILENT CALL – Began awkwardly. Apprentice J. Newman was reminded of her obligations pursuant to AR 132(6)(c) regarding the use of her whip when out of contention.                

Race 6 - SPRING RACING CARNIVAL ON SALE NOW FILLIES AND MARES BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP  1110 M
 
BONFIRE SPARK– Momentarily inconvenienced on entering the home straight by SPIETHTACULAR, which shifted out to improve. When questioned regarding the performance, Jockey M. Du Plessis stated that his mount failed to settle at any stage and in his opinion may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer O. Cairns advised Stewards that the mare would now be sent for a spell.

CINDERSEA – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.

DOMINANT DARCY – Passing the 900m, was momentarily inconvenienced and carried wider by JUST PRECIOUS, which shifted out whilst over-racing.

CORRUPTED – Near the 1000m, was obliged to steady to avoid the heels of JUST PRECIOUS, which shifted in to obtain a position on the rail. Apprentice R. Houston, the rider of JUST PRECIOUS, was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding.

SPIETHTACULAR – Leaving the 600m, had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of CINDERSEA after the pace of the race slackened. Momentarily held up for clear running on entering the home straight before shifting out, contacting BONFIRE SPARK to obtain clear running.


Race 7 - SKY RACING BENCHMARK 72 HANDICAP 1350 M

STANISLAUS – Shifted out on jumping away. Over-raced in the early and middle stages.

MELDUBIOUS – Began awkwardly, shifted in abruptly and bumped heavily with GALWAY FLYER. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight and was obliged to shift out to improve.

READY FOR THE TRIP - Raced wide.
 
GALPIN - Raced wide.

GALWAY FLYER – Bumped heavily on jumping away and lost ground.

SUPERALLOY – Raced wide.
 
STARMAN – Connections advised a change of tactics – settle further back. After being caught wide, was allowed to stride forward and take up a position outside the lead near the 750m.
 
LISTEN JANI – Bumped on jumping away.

MISS DE MEDICI – Passing the 50m, raced in restricted room for a short distance between SHE MOVES TOO and DUKE OF CAMDEN, which shifted in marginally. Jockey C. Graham, the rider of DUKE OF CAMDEN was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground.

HEADHUNTER - Over-raced in the early stages. Obliged to alter course leaving the 300m.


Race 8 - HIGGINS COATINGS BENCHMARK 85 HANDICAP          1350 M
BOOM TORQUE – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and was obliged to shift out.

BLAZEN BOOTS (NZ) – Raced wide.

BLAZING HARRY – Raced wide.
 
ZOUPER FUND – Slow to begin.
 
TORNADO EXPRESS – Over-raced in the middle stages. Raced wide. Raced in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 100m between CASTILLIAN (NZ) and BLAZING HARRY, which shifted in before being corrected. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted today, in particular settling three wide, Jockey C. Graham reported that shortly after the start, and with runners improving to her inside, she elected to allow her mount to settle where comfortable, rather than placing pressure on the mare, which is inclined to over-race. She added that near the 1000m she attempted to restrain for cover behind CASTILLION (NZ), however TORNADO EXPRESS commenced to over-race, and she was obliged to shift back out and travelled wide for the remainder. Jockey C. Graham further added that in hindsight, she should have allowed her mount to stride forward in the early stages and allowed TORNADO EXPRESS to settle in a leading position.  
 

Race 9 - CENTURY POOLS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP   1110 M
 
SWIFT DRAGON – Hampered shortly after the start. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey R. Wiggins reported that the gelding was first up from a spell and in his opinion, would derive benefit from today’s race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
APOSTLE (NZ) – Approaching the 900m, had to be restrained after improving onto heels and as a result made the point of the turn awkwardly and shifted out.   
 
UNLOADING – Shifted out on jumping away. Approaching the 700m, was obliged to steady to avoid the heels of ERIMAR, which shifted in. Placed in restricted room passing the 50m by ERIMAR, which shifted in to improve. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey A. Jones reported that the gelding was first up and in her opinion, may appreciate the addition of blinkers.
 
HIGH PROPHET – Shifted in on jumping away. Approaching the 200m, had difficulty obtaining clear running for a short distance.
 
HOT IMAGE – Passing the 200m, was momentarily inconvenienced by HIGH PROPHET, which shifted out to improve.
 
RUN LIKE A GIRL – Trainer P. Butterworth fined $100 pursuant to AR106(2) for presenting RUN LIKE A GIRL to the mounting yard with the incorrect gear (with winkers). Hampered leaving the 1000m by IRANSOFAR, which shifted out.

WHY WAIT – Connections advised a change of tactics – settle midfield with cover. Settled three wide with cover.

IRANSOFAR – Approaching the 1000m, shifted in before being corrected and as a result, shifted out, contacting the hindquarters of RUN LIKE A GIRL, resulting in IRANSOFAR becoming awkward.

ERIMAR – Had difficulty obtaining clear running and passing the 150m was obliged to shift in. Apprentice M. Philpot reported at scale that the gelding was inclined to hang out and raced ungenerously. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

HUGGIE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. 


Race 10 - LADBROKES OWNERS PROMOTION OPEN HANDICAP   1110 M
 
BAND OF BROTHERS – Raced in restricted room over the final 100m to the inside of POWER OF THE BRAVE, which laid in under pressure. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey A. Mallyon reported that after beginning well, and with early gate speed shown by runners to his inside, rather than be caught wide, he elected to settle further back in the field than anticipated and allowed the gelding to travel where comfortable. He further added that BAND OF BROTHERS may appreciate a step up in distance, and in his opinion, is better suited when able to settle in a more forward position.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed abrasions to its off hindlegs.
 
POWER OF THE BRAVE – Over-raced in the early and middle stages.
 
HE'S HEAVEN - Over-raced in the early stages.
