GENERAL
 
Acting on a report from the QRIC Integrity Investigative Team following a stable inspection on 2 October 2020, Stewards opened an inquiry with trainer Chris Munce in relation to the treatment of LADY BRAHMOS, in particular an injection being administered within one clear day. After taking evidence from Chris Munce, and acting under AR254(2), Stewards were satisfied the mare had been injected within one clear day and withdrew LADY BRAHMOS from Race 7 at 6.55pm, 2 October 2020. Stewards adjourned an inquiry to a date to be fixed and swab samples of LADY BRAHMOS were taken for analysis.
 
Prior to riding, jockey Stephanie Thornton was examined by the on-course Doctor and was passed fit.
 
 
Race 1: TAB CREATE YOUR SPRING CALENDAR QTIS Two-Year-Old Plate 1000 metres
 
HEADLANDER – Bumped near the 300m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lacerations to its off hind hock and heel.
 
MISHANI TROUBLE – Raced wide with cover. Rider J Orman reported that the gelding hung out throughout.
 
YANGARI – Began awkwardly, crowded after the start by WINTER VIOLET which shifted in. In the home straight laid in.
 
MISHANI UNTAMED – Began awkwardly. Raced greenly after start.
 
STELLAR MAGIC – Began awkwardly, crowded after the start by WINTER VIOLET which shifted in. Shortly after the start, when shifting in contacted the heels of HEADLANDER.  Near the 300m, shifted out to improve and bumped with HEADLANDER. After passing the 200m, was disappointed for a run and carried in by MISHANI UNTAMED. Laid in in the home straight.
 
WINTER VIOLET – Shifted in abruptly at the start. Raced wide without cover.
 
 
Race 2: BRC SPRING CARNIVAL ON SALE BENCHMARK 78 Handicap 2400 metres
 
MORENDI – Change of tactics, more forward; Settle midfield. Pulled hard in the early stages and as a result was severely checked to avoid the heels of HE RUNS AWAY(ARG) at the winning post on the first occasion.
 
SKYTREK – Inconvenienced at the start by PARTNERSHIP(NZ).
 
MAYBACH – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Eased down over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near fore and bilaterally sore in front. Trainer S Kendrick was advised he must obtain a Veterinary clearance prior to racing again. Trainer S Kendrick advised the gelding would now be spelled.
 
PARTNERSHIP(NZ) – Began awkwardly, shifted out bumping with SKYTREK.
 
FIELDS OF YULONG(IRE) – Rider R Fradd was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted.
 
 
Race 3: TINGO TANGO QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap 1400 metres
 
MISHANI FRAUDSTER – Prior to the start, had a plate refitted. Over raced in the early and middle stages.
 
I AM SWERVING – Raced wide until passing the 800m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
MOONAN ME – Bounded at the start and lost ground.
 
NEUTRON – Had difficulty obtaining clear running, from entering the home straight until near the 100m.
 
CLAIRVUE STAR – Over raced and had to be steadied near the 1200m, when the pace steadied.
 
MASS DESTRUCTION – Over raced and had to be steadied near the 1200m when the pace steadied. Near the 600m when over racing was steadied after improving to the inside of MISHANI FRAUDSTER.
 
MIDLAND – Over raced when being restrained in the early stages. Raced wide without cover.
 
SAFEWORK – Slow to begin. Over raced in the early and middle stages. Raced wide with cover.
 
BOOMBRASSTIC – Over raced and had to be steadied near the 1200m when the pace steadied. Rider McGillivray was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted.
 
 
Race 4: SOUTHS SPORTS CLUB Class 3 Handicap 1600 metres
 
FORT WAYNE – Over-raced in the early stages. Eased down over the concluding stages. Rider M McGillivray reported the gelding hung out throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed coughing. Trainer S Kendrick was advised he must obtain a Veterinary clearance with the results of an endoscopic examination prior to racing again.
 
MONTEZ – Near the 200m shifted out under pressure. Steadied over the concluding stages when SCOTTISH MIST shifted out. Lost its off hind plate.
 
SENRIMA TIDE(NZ) – Change of tactics, more forward; settled behind the leader.
 
SCOTTISH MIST – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after contacting the fence leaving the mounting yard, was passed suitable to race. In the home straight laid in. Near the 200m obliged to shift in over the heels of MONTEZ which shifted out under pressure.
 
FLAME PRINCESS – Rider R Stewart reported the mare did not appreciate the Good 3 track.
 
BOREAS – Restrained after the start.
 
 
Race 5: KINJITE QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap 1000 metres
 
MISHANI MISS – Laid in under pressure near the 100m.
 
BROKEN HERO – Bumped at the start. Raced wide without cover. Performed below market expectations, Rider M Cahill could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
THE DIAMOND – Raced in restricted room near the 600m to the inside of MISHANI MISS. Near the 100m was steadied when crowded by MISHANI MISS which shifted in under pressure.
 
BELISTIC MAN – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped with BROKEN HERO. Near the 700m was steadied after improving on to the heels of MISHANI MISS.
 
 
Race 6: CAPTAIN SONADOR OPEN Handicap 1000 metres
 
SPURCRAFT – Restrained from the wide barrier. Trainer K Schweida when questioned in relation to the tactics employed today, stated that from the wide gate and with the speed drawn inside SPURCRAFT he did not have any set instructions. Rider J Orman stated he elected to restrain after the start due to the good speed from runners to his inside.
 
USMANOV – Raced wide with cover.
 
CAPITAL CONNECTION – Laid in near the 500m. Rider B Stewart could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
EMERALD KINGDOM – Raced four wide without cover.
 
MISHANI EL LOBO – Near the 500m, was crowded when CAPITAL CONNECTION laid in. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
 
PIZONIE – Began awkwardly.
 
WUDANG BLADE – Raced wide without cover.
 
 
Race 7: GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB No Metro Wins Handicap 1200 metres
 
DISTRICT – Apprentice E Smith reported that she was unable to restrain the gelding, as it has a tendency to choke down.
 
STARVIRGO – Over-raced in the early stages. Rider B Thompson reported that the gelding may appreciate a track with more give.
 
ROYAL HALE – Laid in in the home straight.
 
HEAVEN'S HIGH – Slow to begin. Over-raced approaching the 1000m and was checked to avoid the heels of DEPTHS BELOW.
 
SYNCLINE – Change of tactics, to be ridden with cover; settled worse than midfield, with cover. Laid in in the home straight.
 
FRENCH OCEAN – Began awkwardly, shifted out abruptly and lost ground.
 
 
Race 8: LEXUS SPRING CUP OPEN QUALITY Handicap 1400 metres
 
SNITCH – Began awkwardly. Race wide without cover.
 
DESERT LORD – Rider R Maloney reported the gelding did not sprint as expected. A post-race swab sample was taken for analysis.
 
THE HARROVIAN – Slow to begin.
 
LOTA CREEK GOLD – Slow to begin. Raced wide from the 900m. Rider B Ainsworth was reminded of her obligations when using the whip when out of contention.
 
IMPASSE – Slow to begin. Raced in restricted room near the 1200m and had to be steadied.
 
 
Race 9: LESTER GRIMMETT 'THE CAT' RETIREMENT BENCHMARK 80 Handicap 1800 metres
 
ALPINE DANCER – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the middle stages.
 
MOMENTUM TO WIN – Laid out in the home straight.
 
FLYING MACHINE – Slow to begin. Over raced in the middle stages.
