Race 1: RACECOURSE VILLAGE Maiden Plate 1400 metres

On return to scale a protest was lodged by M Cahill, rider of third past the post BALTIC CAVALIER against first past the post FIORENTE STAR (M Du Plessis) alleging interference passing the 200 metres. After taking evidence from connections of both runners and viewing the patrol footage Stewards found that passing the 200 metres BALTIC CAVALIER was hampered and obliged to alter course when FIORENTE STAR shifted in under pressure. Bearing in mind where the incident took place, the 1.5 length margin at the finish and the manner in which both runners finished the race off, Stewards dismissed the protest and correct weight declared on the semaphored placings. At a subsequent inquiry M Du Plessis, rider of FOIRENTE STAR was reprimanded for careless riding under AR131(a).

LA AMIGO – Slow to begin. Raced three wide without cover throughout. Rider reported after being slow to begin the gelding over-raced when being ridden forward, adding this had a detrimental effect on the finishing effort of LA AMIGO over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

MACEDON FLYER – Rider M Du Plessis reported the gelding got its tongue over the bit during the running of the race which may have had an effect on its performance.

SALTOREE – Shifted in near the 800 metres when not fully clear resulting in both SUPER TROUBLE and GYPSY ROZAY being tightened for room. Race 5: 5 TAB VENUE MODE Colts, Geldings and Entires BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 1300 metres

CAMP RIFLE – When asked to comment on tactics adopted in the early stages of the home straight, rider B Nothdurft explained instructions were the gelding races best when held up for one run and was reluctant to expose CAMP RIFLE too early as the horse only has a short sprint. Stewards noted the explanation of B Northdurft.

EVITA LA VIE – Began awkwardly. Bumped near the 300 metres.

HODGSON – Due to current covid 19 restrictions Stewards permitted J Orman to ride the gelding 0.5kg over its allocated weight. J Orman was of the opinion something may have been amiss with the gelding in the home straight and for this reason he desisted from pressuring the horse over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to making an abnormal respiratory noise following the race. Trainer J Moore was advised HODGSON would require a veterinary clearance including satisfactory results of an endoscopic examination prior to its next race start.
