Correct weight was delayed when the trainer of the 4rd placegetter ZOFGOLD, Mr G Ryan lodged an objection against the 3rd placegetter THE DARK (M Du Plessis) for alleged interference over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the available patrol footage, it was established that over the final 100m ZOFGOLD raced tight to the inside of STORM ATTACK and THE DARK which had initially been carried in by VENDIDIT and CICCINA. As Stewards could not be satisfied that the extent of the interference to ZOFGOLD was greater than the margin separating both runners at the finish, they dismissed the protest.

Correct weight was also delayed when the rider of the dead heated 1st placegetter VENDIDIT Jockey K Wilson-Taylor lodged an objection against the equal dead heated 1st placegetter CICCINA (J Byrne) alleging interference in the home straight. A counter objection was lodged by Jockey J Byrne the rider of CICCINA against the equal dead heated 1st placegetter VENDIDIT alleging interference near the 1200m.  After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the available patrol footage, it was established that near the 1200m CICCINA had to be eased when VENDIDIT shifted inwards. Then in the straight whilst VENDIDIT was inclined to lay inwards it was also carried in slightly by CICCINA.  As stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that the extent of the interference to both horses at the respective positions in the race was sufficient to alter the placings as such and they dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings.

Correct weight was delayed when the rider of the 4th placegetter MISHANI MISTRESS, Jockey M Wishart lodged an objection against the 3rd placegetter (HATTUSA) and 1st placegetter MISHANI PERSUASION being declared the winner, alleging interference over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the available patrol footage, it was established that in the straight, whilst MISHANI MISTRESS lay outwards HUTTUSA shifted in after being bumped by MISHANI PERSUASION. As stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that the extent of the interference to MISHANI MISTRESS was greater than the margin separating these runners at the finish, they dismissed the protest.

Correct weight was further delayed when the rider of the 3rd placegetter HATTUSA, Jockey M Du Plessis lodged an objection against the 1st placegetter MISHANI PERSUASION (J Morris) alleging interference near 150m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the available patrol footage, it was established that that near the 150m MISHANI PERSUASION made contact with HATTUSA however after taking into account the degree of interference and the way in which the horses finished off the race the stewards could not be comfortable satisfied that the extent of the interference to HATTUSA  was greater than the margin separating both runners at the finish, they dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings.

MISHANI PERSUASION – Began awkwardly and a short distance later was bumped and blundered. Jockey J Morris was fined $300 for use of the whip 6 times prior to the 100m, which is 1 more than permitted. AR132(7)(a)(ii)

After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the available patrol footage, it was established that near the 1100m MENAZZI shifted in resulting in PENTITO having to be checked and lose its position. Taking into account the degree of interference and the manner in which the horses finished off the race and the margin separating them, Stewards were of the opinion that had the interference not occurred that PENTITO would have beaten MENAZZI and therefore upheld the objection and amended the placings to read 1st RHAPSODY ROSE, 2nd BIG MUSKIE, 3rd PENTITO & 4th MENAZZI.

At a subsequent inquiry Jockey T Marshall pleaded guilty to a charge to careless riding under AR131(a) in that permitted his mount to shift in, crowding PENTITO resulting in that runner being checked and lost its rightful running. Jockey T Marshall’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days to commence midnight 17 October 2021 and expire midnight 26 October 2021.

App Lloyd further added that in hindsight he would have been better served to have attempted a run to the outside of RED STINA approaching and rounding the home turn which would have afforded him clear running.  Stewards were of the view that App J Lloyd erred in his decision to persist racing to the inside of RED STINA however feel that his actions were not culpable under the rules and took into account his status as a 3kg claiming apprentice.
