GENERAL
Stewards approved the following overweights:
Race 4. B. Loy +1kg
Race 10. J. Orman +1/2kg
 
Stewards inquired into the circumstances around the dual engagement of jockey Brodie Loy on NISHIKORI and I AM LETHAL. Stewards determined that trainer J. O’Shea engaged Mr Loy prior to trainer M. Dunn. Mr Loy’s manager Mr L. Prior was fined $300 pursuant to AR227(a) for being negligent in accepting two rides for jockey B. Loy.
 
 
Race 1: WIDDEN BASIL NOLAN JR QTIS Two-Year-Old Fillies Plate
1000 metres
 
MISS COOTA – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages.
 
ARABIAN FOX – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 600m improved onto the heels of MISHANI CIENNA, and shifted wider and raced three wide from that point onwards. Rider S. Collett reported at scale that her mount did not begin well and raced greenly throughout. A post race veterinary examination on the filly revealed no significant abnormalities.
 
KEYBOARD – Approaching the 600m, had to be eased when raced greenly when crossed by MISS COOTA, which shifted in. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
MISHANI JETSTREAM – Raced wide early. Rider J. Orman reported that he was unhappy with the fillys’ action. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be shinsore and to be exhibiting a slow post race recovery. Trainer Les Ross advised that the filly will now go for a spell.
 
MISHANI TWILIGHT – Slow to begin.
 
Race 2: PORTLAND SKY STANDING AT WIDDEN QTIS Two-Year-Old
Colts & Geldings Plate 1000 metres
 
MISHANI CRUISE – Shifted in under pressure near the 150m and momentarily tightened RISKY INVESTMENT.
 
MISHANI RAIDER – Declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 12.21pm after  becoming fractious in the barriers and becoming cast. Upon declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all bets on MISHANI RAIDER be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st RISKY INVESTMENT - 16win, 16 place
2nd MISHANI CRUISE - 24c place
3rd MISHANI MAVERICK – 21c place
Trainer Les Ross was advised that MISHANI RAIDER will require a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.
 
MISHANI EAGLE – Slow to begin.
 
MISHANI TYCOON – Laid in under pressure over the final 200m.
 
RISKY INVESTMENT – Hung out in the early stages. Over the final stages, shifted out abruptly.
 
SAGE ADVICE – A warning was issued on the colts’ poor performance. Trainer Les Ross advised he will assess the horse over the coming days and report back to Stewards his future plans with the colt.
 
SUNDAY MAIL – Underwent a veterinary inspection on arrival at the barriers after becoming unruly in the parade ring and momentarily escaping from its handler. Passed fit to start. Commenced to hang out shortly after start, making the home turn extremely wide and was eased down by its rider in the straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormality. Trainer L. Freedman’s representative was advised that the colt will require a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.
 
 
Race 3: R&W ASCOT Class 6 Handicap 1600 metres
 
JETTY – Slow to begin.
 
MOB BUSTER – Leaving the 900m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of ZOU DE MOON, with WARP SPEED also having to ease off heels of MOB BUSTER at this point.
 
SMIRK – Rider reported on scale that in her view didn’t run as expected.
 
 
WARP SPEED – Near the 1100m, had to be eased to avoid the heels of MOB BUSTER. Jockey R. Maloney was advised to exercise greater care in such circumstances.
 
 
Race 4: NOVA 106.9 SPRING GARDEN PARTY BENCHMARK 70
Handicap 1600 metres

IRUKANDJI – Trainer A. Neasham was fined $200 pursuant to LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider.
 
KOKORO – Bumped with MAGIC CONQUEROR near the 450m.
 
HALLOWED GIRL – Stood flat footed and was slow to begin.
 
BAHAMUT – Slow to begin.
 
RATIONS - Shifted out near the 900m and carried MAGIC CONQUEROR wider, which then raced three wide from that point.
 
THE DARK – Raced three wide in the early stages.
 
AMORE PRIMUS – Slow to begin.
 
SALSONIC – Raced wide for the majority.
 
 
Race 5: SKY RACING QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap 1200 metres
 
EXO LADY – Over the final stages, hampered by the riderless EN POINTE when it shifted out abruptly.
 
EN POINTE – Began awkwardly bumping with JUST SUPER resulting in jockey Harrison losing use of her irons, becoming unbalanced resulting in rider Harrison being dislodged. Rider T. Harrison was stood down for the remainder of her engagements.
 
JUST SUPER – Inconvenienced for some distance approaching and into the home turn when the riderless horse was on the fence and had to be restrained to avoid that horses’ heels.
 
NAUGHTY WORDS – Near the 450m laid in towards the heels of TAURIDS.
 
DIAMOND CITY – Near the 800m had to be checked to avoid the riderless horse.
 
TAURIDS – Began awkwardly. Overraced in the early stages.
 
DEER TRAIL – Near the 800m, hampered and taken wider by DIAMOND CITY. When asked to comment on the geldings’ performance, rider B. Thompson commented that although he was disappointed, but the horse had excuses in that he never got into a comfortable rhythm to improve into the race and for this reason it didn’t sprint as expected and attributed this to the riderless horse and the inexperience of his mount.
 
 
SIR CARTER – Reared at the start and lost ground. 
 
CLAIRVUE MOLLY – Apprentice A. Jones dropped her whip near the 300m.
 
 
Race 6: XXXX QUEENSLAND CUP 2400 metres
 
SEAT OF POWER – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.
 
BARADE – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running in the early part of the home straight and for some distance approaching and passing the 200m. Jockey J. Byrne was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on six (6) occasions prior to the 100m, being one (1) more than permitted.
 
MOHICAN HEIGHTS – Jockey S. Collett was fined $200 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on 8 occasions prior to the 100m, being three (3) more than permitted.
 
SAYL – Jockey T. Harrison was replaced by S. Thornton after jockey Harrison was dislodged in the previous race. Overraced for a short distance passing the winning post on the first occasion. In the early stages of the home straight, had difficulty obtaining clear running.
 
DUNE FORTY FIVE – Jockey L. Tarrant was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on six (6) occasions prior to the 100m, being one (1) more than permitted.
 
TAPPY'S LAD – On jumping, tightened for room between SEAT OF POWER and FUN FACT which shifted in. Improved three wide from the 1000m.
 
 
Race 7: XXXX Class 3 Plate 1200 metres
 
ADONISEA – Declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 1.53pm after being injured en route to the course.
 
UNCLE RUSS – Raced three wide.
 
BOWRIDER – Jumped away awkwardly. Overraced in the early stages.
 
MISS SUPER – Slow to begin. Shifted out near the 400m and bumped BOWRIDER. Soon afterwards shifted in abruptly and had to be restrained from the heels of UNCLE RUSS. Held up in the early stages of the home straight, and at the 300m shifted out to improve and brushed with UNCLE RUSS.
 
ALBURQ – Jumped awkwardly. Raced in restricted room approaching the home turn between WINE NOT ROSES and RAMMSTEIN. Held up in the early stages of the home straight.
 
 
Race 8: COTTER FAMILY NUDGEE COLLEGE OLD BOY'S CUP OPEN
1400 metres
 
HASABRO – Slow to begin.
 
GREYWORM – Jockey T. Harrison was replaced by jockey M. Cahill after being dislodged in a previous race.
 
STARDOME – Jockey J. Orman when asked to comment on the geldings’ performance commented that the gelding is now looking for further ground.
 
TURN ON THE CHARM – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running in the home straight until the 200m.
 
BATTLETON – Near the 800m commenced to pull hard for a short distance.
 
 
Race 9: THIS IS CROSER Class 6 Handicap 1000 metres
 
 
GUNTANTES – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
HAMLET VON SNITZEL – Slow to begin. Raced three wide throughout.
 
CAPITAL REIGN – Slow to begin. Overraced badly in the early stages. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
AIDENSFIELD – Near the 800m, as a result of being galloped shifted out wider on the track, and being retired from the event. Stewards inquired into the circumstances of AIDENSFIELD being retired from the event, with evidence taken from riders W. Peel (CAPITAL REIGN), and J. Orman (SHAMROCK LU). After consideration of the evidence and viewing the patrol footage, it was evident that CAPITAL REIGN after being slow to begin, the gelding the n commenced to overrace badly despite the efforts of Apprentice Peel to restrain her mount, resulting in CAPITAL REIGN making contact with the off hind leg of AIDENSFIELD. This resulted in AIDENSFIELD being retired from the race by M. Du Plessis, hampering VAST KAMA, SHAMROCK LU and GUNTANTES. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a significant laceration to its’ off hind and treated on course before being transported to UQ Veterinary Hospital for treatment.
 
 
Race:10 MW RECRUITMENT CUP BENCHMARK 75 Handicap
1400 metres
 
ISABELLA'S SPRING – Held up for clear running on the back of GENERAL DUBAI in the early part of the home straight.
 
NISHIKORI – Commenced to hang out approaching the 1000m resulting in SABALENKA being taken out onto I AM LETHAL. Rider J. Byrne commented that NISHIKORI was disappointing in its effort in the home straight, and in his opinion, may be feeling the effects of recent racing.
 
QUEEN OF DUBAI – Began awkwardly.
 
 
LOVE YERS ALL – Began awkwardly.
 
NIGHT GUY - Near the 400m had to be steadied off the heels of REJOICED.
