SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
 
GENERAL
 
Stewards approved the following jockey to ride overweight.
Race 9 – Justin Huxtable plus 1/2kg at 56kg.
 
 
Race 1: BRC MEMBERSHIP QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap 1200 metres
 
NAZORIAN – Shifted out abruptly at the start. Over raced during the early stages. Rider J. Byrne reported it was not his intention to hold the lead today, however, when not challenged in the early stages, was able to hold that position.
 
TRIFLING – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped ALLOUTATIME. Raced keenly early and steadied from heels near the 800m.
 
ASHIGARU – Near the 300m, raced in restricted room for a short distance.
 
SMART RECOGNITION – Hampered at start. Steadied from heels near the 900m. Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
ALLOUTATIME – Bumped heavily on jumping and shifted in.
 
CRYPTIC SOUND – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight, obliging its rider to correct his mount on several occasions.

GUCHI DIVA – Checked at start. Raced greenly, shifting out considerably over the final 100m.
 
FLYING MAPLE – Bumped heavily on jumping and lost ground.
 
 
Race 2: GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB OPEN Handicap 1600 metres
 
STAR OF MICHELIN – Stood flatfooted as the start was effected and gave away considerable ground. Trainer S. Kendrick was advised that the gelding will require a further barrier certificate prior to resuming racing again.
 
SHE'S THE GIFT (NZ) – Began awkwardly and shortly thereafter bumped with MUBARIZ.
 
MUBARIZ (GB) – Bumped shortly after the start. Raced keenly during the middle stages.
 
SAGACIOUS – Raced keenly during the middle stages.
 
 
Race 3: MOUNT FRANKLIN Class 6 Handicap 1400 metres
 
MATOWATAKPE – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running approaching the home turn. Laid out when placed under pressure over the final 300m placing its rider at a disadvantage.
 
THE CULLINAN – Raced keenly for a short distance passing the 800m.
 
PAINTED BLACK – Slow to begin. Weakened in the home straight and was beaten a considerable margin. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer C. Zintilis was advised that the gelding would have a metropolitan bar placed upon until such time as it form improves to the requisite standard.
 
 
Race 4: QTIS JEWEL RACEDAY 18 MARCH BENCHMARK 90 Handicap 2200 metres
 
HEAD OF STATE – Carried wider on the home turn.
 
HOSTAGE OF WAR – Raced keenly during the early stages.
 
TWO SMOKIN BARRELS – Slow to begin.
 
LETS TORQUE A DEEL – Over raced in the early stages. 
 
TAPPY’S LAD – When asked to comment on the performance of the gelding, jockey M. Du Plessis commented that the gelding felt one paced and would take benefit from todays’ run.
 
 
Race 5: SKY RACING BENCHMARK 72 Handicap 1810 metres
 
 
RED LIGHT ROXANNE – Restrained from a wide barrier to gain a position closer to the rail. Jockey B. Thompson commented that from the wide barrier he was obliged to settle further back than anticipated as opposed to its most recent start where it settled further forward, however he was not dissatisfied with today’s performance. 
 
GRINZINGER KNIGHT – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the middle stages. Jockey J. Byrne was satisfied with the manner with which the gelding settled in running however when placed under pressure in the home straight did not let down as expected and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed a poor post-race recovery. Trainer H. Richardson advised that it was his intention to spell the gelding.
 
PORTNOY – Began awkwardly.
 
VIVENZO – Jockey A. Allen was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip seven times prior to the 100m, being two more than permitted.    
 
 
Race 6: XXXX DRY BENCHMARK 72 Handicap 1400 metres
 
HE'S THE ULTIMATE (NZ) – On jumping, the crossover noseband became detached on the gelding placing it as a disadvantage throughout. Laid in for a short distance near the 300m. Jockey J. Byrne reported that his mount was inclined to over race in the middle stages.
 
COLLAY'S SPIRIT (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
 
COMRADE ROSA – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
 
KINGS COUNTY – Underwent a veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and was found to be lame in the off hind leg and declared a late scratching at 3.07pm. Trainer A. Coome was advised that the gelding will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on the gelding to be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
 
First: COMRADE ROSA - 0c win, 0c place
Second: THE RED KITE - 2c place
Third: JETSKI - 4c place
 
LATELY (NZ) – Slow to begin.  
 
 
Race 7: MAGIC MILLIONS GOLD COAST MARCH 20-21 Class 3 Plate 1200 metres
 
CHARGE ON (NZ) – Declared a late scratching at 12.51pm after becoming fractious on the float enroute. Trainer A. Campton was advised that CHARGE ON will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
DELUXE LEGEND – Began moderately before mustering speed.
 
EVENING GLORY – Over raced during the early stages.
 
HE KNOWS – Slow to begin.
 
THATFEELSBETTER – Began awkwardly.
 
ZAVABOOM – Raced wide early. Leaving the 800m was bumped and shifted wider. Hung out from the 600m and shifted wider on the home turn despite the efforts of its rider. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Stable representative for trainer T. Gollan was advised that ZAVABOOM must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
 
ENTERPRISE POMME – Bumped on jumping with KAZZA’S JET. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be exhibiting clinical signs of the thumps.
 
ARGYLE PINK – Slow to begin.
 
KAZZA'S JET – Bumped on jumping with ENTERPRISE POMME.
 
 
Race 8: LADBROKES PUNTER ASSIST BENCHMARK 90 Handicap 1000 metres
 
THE BOPPER – Jockey A. Mallyon was reminded of his obligations when raising his whip hand above shoulder height.
 
BOOMNOVA – Bumped leaving the 600m and became unbalanced.
 
OSAMU – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped with RUBIQUITOUS.
 
RUBIQUITOUS – Bumped on jumping. Improved onto the heels of OSAMU near the 600m, shifted out and bumped with BOOMNOVA.
 
GLORIOUS RUBY – Began awkwardly.
 
 
Race 9: GIRLS DAY OUT 4 MARCH QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 72 Handicap 1600 metres
 
THE VOWELS – Bumped on jumping. Shortly thereafter, bumped by EXECUTIVE STRESS, which shifted in abruptly, and as a result THE VOWELS lost ground.
 
BETTER RAIN – Near the 1500m was carried wider by RED TOP, which laid out. Raced in restricted room between the 1100m and the 900m, before J Byrne was obliged to check his mount near the 900m. Jockey E. Chaves rider of SPOOKY SPIRIT was found guilty pursuant to AR131(a) in that between the 1100m and the 900m, he failed to prevent his mount from shifting in over an extended distance which ultimately resulted in jockey J. Byrne being obliged to check his mount near the 900m.  RED STAR RUBI which was trailing, was also checked and lost its position as a consequence POSSOVER and TOOLATEMATE were also inconvenienced in this incident. Jockey Chaves’ license to ride in races was suspended for a period of fourteen days to commence midnight 27th February 2023 and expire midnight the 13th March 2023. Near the 650m when the pace slackened, raced ungenerously for a short distance.
 
EXECUTIVE STRESS – Began awkwardly and shifted in abruptly before being bumped on the hindquarters and becoming unbalanced. Raced wide throughout.
 
RED TOP – Near the 700m when the pace slackened, raced ungenerously for a short distance. Momentarily steadied from the heels of ALFA LILY near the 300m, which was carried wider by PORKY, which in turn was carried out by SKATER.
 
SPOOKY SPIRIT – Raced wide throughout.
 
DESERT MIST – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumping THE VOWELS. Near the 1500m, was awkwardly placed on the heels of BETTER RAIN and was checked to avoid that runners’ heels. Raced keenly in the early stages. Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight had difficulty obtaining clear running until leaving the 200m.
 
HELLAVADANCER – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight. Representative for trainer K. Lees reported that the filly will now be sent for a spell following its disappointing performance today.
 
PORKY – Raced very keenly in the early stages. Near the 1200m, when over racing and restraining for cover, was momentarily awkwardly placed on the heels of SKATER. Near the 300m was obliged to steady from the heels of SKATER, which shifted out. Jockey T. Harrison was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
POSSOVER – Raced wide throughout. Inconvenienced near the 900m.
 
SKATER – Began awkwardly.
 
TAPILDOODLEDO (NZ) – Leaving the 1200m began to over race.
 
ALFA LILY – Slow to begin. Over raced during the early stages, and then steadied from heels leaving the 1200m. Carried wider near the 300m.
 
RED STAR RUBI – Began awkwardly. Checked near the 900m. Near the 650m was obliged to steady from the heels of BETTER RAIN when the pace slackened.
 
TOOLATEMATE – Trainer S. Morrisey advised of a change of tactics, in that the gelding will be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. Slow to begin. Shortly thereafter, awkwardly placed on the heels of EXECUTIVE STRESS, which shifted in abruptly, and then was obliged to settle further back in the field then anticipated. Inconvenienced near the 900m.
