Race 1: VALE ALAN 'JOCK' GOLLOGLY BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 2200 Metres
 
TAPPY'S LAD (NZ) – Slow to begin.
 
TAPILDOODLEDO (NZ) – Slow to begin. Over raced during the middle stages.
 
I AM THE EMPIRE (IRE) – When asked to comment on the performance of the gelding, trainer’s representative T. Pollard stated that I AM THE EMPIRE has likely come to the end of its preparation and will go for a spell. A post race veterinary examination revealed a poor post race recovery.
 
SET ME UP – Slow to begin.
 
OUTBURST – Had difficulty securing clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
 
TIME TO TESTIFY – Raced wide until the 1000m.
 
 
Race 2: GIRLS DAY OUT ON SALE NOW BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1600 Metres
 
TYRESA – Raced wide throughout. Held up for clear running over the concluding stages and was unable to be fully tested after becoming after awkwardly placed on heels.
 
VENDIDIT – Jockey B. Thornton reported that in his opinion the gelding didn’t appreciate today’s firm surface. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting a poor post race recovery and mild heat stress.
 
DEEP TEMPEST (NZ) – Approaching the 1100m, restrained to avoid heels of PATMOS ISLAND (M. Potgieter), which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Apprentice M. Potgieter pled guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of DEEP TEMPEST, and his license to ride in races was suspended for 7 days commencing the 30th of December 2023 and ending midnight the 6th of January 2024.
 
GUTS 'N' GLORY – Raced wide throughout.
 
TUHINGA – Slow to begin. Passing the 100m, had to be restrained when attempting to improve into a run between THUNDER MANIA and YANGARI which laid in under pressure.
 
YANGARI – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
WHISTLING SPIRIT – Over raced during the early and middle stages. Raced wide throughout.
 
JUBAI PRIDE – Stewards fined trainer J. Bellamy $200 pursuant to LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider. Hampered shortly after jumping.
 
DIACO – Approaching the 300m, raced in restricted room for a number of strides.
 
ULTIMATE OUTCOME – Slow to begin and hampered shortly afterwards. Passing the 150m, held up for clear running before shifting outwards to improve into clear running. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
 
Race 3: LADBROKES CITY TO SURF PLATE  1600 Metres
 
WEIGALL TIGER – Over raced throughout. Apprentice C. Graham reported that, in her opinion, the gelding may not have run out a strong 1600m. Trainer K. Schweida concurred with these comments.
 
VICTORY WIN – Inconvenienced shortly after the start when EXOTIQUE MISS shifted in and away from MASTERPLAN. Forced wider near the 500m. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
EXOTIQUE MISS – Over raced during the early stages. Placed in restricted room approaching the 400m between WEIGALL TIGER and MASTERPLAN which shifted out. Raced greenly in the home straight. Lost the off fore plate in running.
 
COOL MUSIC – Began awkwardly.
 
 
Race 4: XXXX QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP  1000 Metres
 
MISHANI GANGSTER – Began awkwardly.
 
THE LUCKY ALIEN – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Over the concluding stages, was heavily bumped by TOWN CRIER and shifted outwards.  Apprentice B. Wheeler, rider of TOWN CRIER, pled guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that he allowed his mount to shift outwards heavily contacting THE LUCKY ALIEN, causing that runner to shift outwards, obliging SHE’S A ROGUE to shift out to avoid heels. Apprentice Wheeler’s license to ride in races was suspended for 12 days commencing midnight the 30th of December 2023 until midnight the 11th of January 2024.
 
BOSSED UP – Obliged to hang out approaching the home turn.
 
SHE'S A ROGUE – Obliged to shift out to avoid heels over the concluding stages.
 
 
Race 5: BRC MEMBERSHIP PLUS BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP  1820 Metres
 
SAVVY LAD (NZ) – Over raced during the early stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting a tendon injury to the off foreleg. Trainer T. Newing was advised that SAVVY LAD will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
FIRE KING – Raced wide throughout.
 
SO DAPPER – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
READILY AVAILABULL – Slow to begin.
 
CLYDE – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Approaching the 300m, obliged to shift out across heels to secure clear running.
 
ALWAYS ON SHOW (NZ) – Near the 1200m, had to be restrained after improving onto heels.
 
BECKFORD – Tightened for room on jumping and lost ground.
 
JUMEIRAH BEACH – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
DHAKURI (NZ) – Tightened for room on jumping and lost ground.
 
 
Race 6: MAGIC MILLIONS B.J. MCLACHLAN STAKES 1200 Metres
 
STORM BOY – Began awkwardly.
 
CUSTOMIZED – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Hampered passing the 100m after POSTER GIRL shifted out abruptly.
 
POSTER GIRL – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Passing the 100m shifted out abruptly.
 
ASTAPOR – A post race veterinary examination revealed a poor post race recovery and mild colic which was treated by the on course veterinarian. Trainer C. Taylor was advised that ASTAPOR will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
 
Race 7: CHANNEL 7 BERNBOROUGH PLATE 1600 Metres
 
ACQUITTED (IRE) – Held up rounding the home turn and had difficulty obtaining clear running until the 300m.
 
VINCO – Slow to begin. When asked to comment, jockey A. Hyeronimus could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying mild heat stress.
 
LOVE TAP – Raced wide throughout. Bumped on a number of occasions rounding the home turn when ACQUITTED shifted out to secure clear running. Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 300m, became awkward in its stride and lost ground.
 
JETTY – Slow to begin.
 
NOAH 'N' A DEEL – Began awkwardly. Held up for clear running in the home straight.
 
 
Race 8: MAGIC MILLIONS FALVELON 1200 Metres
 
ALPINE EDGE – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running entering the home straight until the 300m.
 
MASTER JAMIE – Began awkwardly.
 
NETTUNO – Raced wide for the majority.
 
EF TROOP – Shifted out near the 700m initiated contact with DEEPOUR and continued to bumped with that runner until approaching the 500m.
 
FIFTEEN ROUNDS – Slow to begin.
 
DEEPOUR – From the 700m, bumped when EF TROOP shifted out to improve and continued to bump with that runner until approaching the 500m.
 
LEGAL ESPRIT – Slow to begin. Passing the 200m, shifted out abruptly in an attempt to improve into clear running. When questioned regarding his ride in the home straight, jockey R. Dolan reported that approaching the 200m he accidently dropped his right rein resulting in his mount shifting out abruptly.
 
RICHON – Passing the 800m, had to be restrained to avoid the heels of RUBIQUITOUS which shifted in.  Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor, rider of RUBIQUITOUS, pled guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that passing the 800m he allowed his mount to shift in when not fully clear of RICHON, causing that runner to be restrained from heels. Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor’s license to ride in races was suspended for 17 days commencing at midnight the 5th of January 2024 until midnight the 22nd of January 2024.
 
RALPHIE – Slow to begin. Over raced passing the 1000m then commenced to lay out until the 800m. Approaching the 200m, had to be steadied from heels of EF TROOP which shifted out and away from LEGAL ESPRIT which shifted out abruptly.
 
 
Race 9: SEASON GREETINGS FROM BRC CLASS 3 PLATE  1200 Metres
 
COMMODUS – Stood flatfooted and lost significant ground. Trainer M. Sues was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s record. Trainer M. Sues stated that he would remove the ear muffs prior to next start.
 
PENTITO – Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight.
 
DAYTONA – Had difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 300m.
 
TRIBECA STAR – Raced wide throughout.
 
BEZIQUE – Began awkwardly.  
 
BURNING BELL – Jockey A. Mallyon reported that he lost the use of his inside rein near the 50m.
 
 
Race 10: EVA AIR EVERGREEN BENCHMARK 85 HANDICAP  1400 Metres
 
GO WANDJI – Raced in restricted room passing the 1000m. Apprentice J. Molloy reported that after being placed in restricted room during the early and middle stages of the event he was obliged to pressure the horse during this time to hold a position on the fence and in his opinion, this had a detrimental effect on the gelding’s ability to run out a strong 1400m. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer T. Dougall was advised to report back to Stewards anything that may come to light that may have affected GO WANDJI’S performance.
 
STUCK WITH YOU (NZ) – Raced wide throughout.
 
STARVIRGO – Began awkwardly.
 
GAVE US UP – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer C. Anderson was advised that GAVE US UP will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
LIGHT OF BOOM – Raced in restricted room passing the 1000m, and again from the 800m until being restrained near the 600m. Apprentice C. Graham was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
