Race 9: SEVEN QTIS 3YO *** WEIGHTS RAISED + 7.5KG *** 1300 M
Correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards time to consider a protest lodged by Jockey D. Thornton rider of FINGERS HUNTER (3rd place) against 1st place PIERATA’S GEM ridden by C. Graham alleging interference over the final 300m. It was established that passing the 300m, PIERATA’S GEM shifted inwards in an attempt to improve into clear running when insufficiently clear of FINGERS HUNTER causing FINGERS HUNTER to have to steady away from the heels of PIERATA’S GEM. FINGERS HUNTER was held up for clear running until the final 100m.
After hearing evidence from connections, Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied given the beaten margin and how both runner finished off the race, that had the interference not occurred, FINGERS HUNTER would have finished ahead of PIERATA’S GEM and as such the protest was dismissed and correct weight was declared on the judge’s numbers.
