SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
GENERAL
Stewards approved the following overweights:
Race 5: T. Berry +0.5 (55kg)
Race 8: R. Dolan +0.5 (50kg)
As Jockey J. McDonald was unable to make the allotted weight in Race 8 for acceptable reasons, he was replaced as per the race day summary.
After the running of Race 2, Stewards inspected the track and upgraded it to a Good 3.
Race 1: SKY RACING GUNSYND CLASSIC - GROUP 3 1600 M
JUST PARTY – Jockey N. Rawiller reported at scale that his mount hung in throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Jockey N. Rawiller was fined $200 under AR 131(b) for failing to ride his mount out to the finishing line.
EMIRATE – Connections advised of a change of tactics in that EMIRATE will attempt to settle more forward if circumstances permit. Slow to begin and as a result settled at the rear of the field. Momentarily held up for clear running on entering the home straight. When questioned regarding the performance of EMIRATE, Jockey J. McDonald could offer no explanation for the colts disappointing effort. A post- race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainers’ representative B. Killian advised that he would report back to Stewards on the condition of EMIRATE in the subsequent days.
APUNTAR – Over-raced for a short distance passing the 1200m.
MOON SWEEPER – Raced wide throughout. Near the 300m, was momentarily inconvenienced when becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of APUNTAR, which shifted out marginally.
Race 2: SEVEN THE WAYNE WILSON - LISTED 1600 M
UNSPOKEN (IRE) – When asked to comment on the performance of UNSPOKEN (IRE), Jockey T. Sherry stated that the fast tempo of the race may not have suited his mount, which raced ungenerously from the 500m, however he was pleased with UNSPOKENs (IRE) finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
WATERFORD (IRE) – Laid out rounding the home turn.
PIER (NZ) – Bumped with ATTRACTABLE at the start.
ATTRACTABLE – Bumped with PIER (NZ) at the start. When questioned regarding the performance of ATTRACTABLE, Jockey R. Jones reported that in his opinion the gelding had come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer S. Ryan advised that the gelding would now be sent for a spell.
SIBAAQ (GB) –When asked to comment on the improved performance of SIBAAQ, Trainer representative T. Pollard stated that he was surprised to see the gelding settle at the rear of the field with cover, however from the wide barrier and after jumping only fairly, he was not disappointed. He further added, that in the opinion of the stable, SIBAAQ (GB) is better suited to travelling on the top of the ground rather than its previous three starts which were on rain affected ground.
CRANKY HARRY – Tightened shortly after the start.
DEMON DARB – Jockey T. Berry reported at scale that in his opinion DEMON DARB did not appreciate today’s firm surface. Hampered shortly after jumping away. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
WITHOUT REVENGE (GB) – Raced three wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
Following the running of this race, Jockey E. Brown was questioned regarding the circumstances leading to PIER (NZ) failing to sight the construction area at the 600m prior to the race and was subsequently reprimanded under AR 232(b) for failing to comply with a direction and requirement of the Stewards.
Race 3: XXXX BRISBANE CUP - GROUP 2 3200 M
ALEGRON – Slow to begin.
NIKAU SPUR (NZ) – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
STAR VEGA (IRE) – Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the early stages.
MANZOICE – Over-raced in the early stages.
STRATHTAY (NZ) -Raced three wide throughout.
MR WATERVILLE (IRE) – Over-raced in the middle stages. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight until passing the 250m. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
DILLIAN (IRE) – Over-raced in the early stages. Raced wide.
SO DAZZLING (NZ) – Slow to begin.
Race 4: SEN OXLADE STAKES - LISTED 1200 M
The start of this event was delayed approximately 2 mins owing to MIDNIGHT SPIRIT presenting to the mounting yard with the incorrect saddlecloth and subsequently the saddles of MIDNIGHT SPIRIT and HI BARBIE having to be re-weighed. Trainer T. Gollan was reprimanded under AR 207(1) for presenting MIDNIGHT SPIRIT with the incorrect saddlecloth.
QUIETLY ARROGANT – Jockey J. McDonald reported at scale that from 600m he became concerned with how his mount was travelling. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer P. Snowden reported that he would have the gelding undergo a veterinary examination on return to his stable before putting in consideration to QUIETLY ARROGANT’s future racing plan.
DAMIEN – Bumped shortly after the start. Near the 800m was hampered and carried wider by PRESTAR,which shifted out.
FABULANTES – Near the 300m was held up for clear running.
AMOSU – Commenced to over-race after being crossed passing the 1000m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
HI BARBIE – Began awkwardly and bumped with IMPACT ZONE shortly after the start.
FINANCIALLY FAMOUS – Slow to begin.
ROYAL CHIC – Slow to begin. Passing the 800m, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of PRESTAR,which shifted in to obtain cover before again shifting out to a three wide position. Near the 300m was obliged to shift out to secure clear running.
SMEXY - Bumped with DAMIEN shortly after the start. Approaching the 800m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of MIDNIGHT SPIRIT, which commenced to over-race, and shifted out before shifting back in.
CARBONARA – Slow to begin. Approaching the 800m, had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of ROYAL CHIC. Near the 200m was held up for clear running.
Race 5: DRINKWISE HINKLER HANDICAP - LISTED 1200 M
Jockey C. Graham was harmlessly dislodged enroute to the barriers.
Prior to the start of this event, THE BIG GOODBYE underwent a pre-race veterinary examination behind the barriers after being kicked and was declared a late scratching at 2:04pm on veterinary advice. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on THE BIG GOODBYE be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st COMPELLING TRUTH 2c win, 4c place
2nd NEED SOME LUCK 1c place
3rd APPIN GIRL 3c place
Trainer R. Heathcote was advised that THE BIG GOODBYE would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
KING KAPA – When asked to comment of the performance of KING KAPA, Trainer T. Gollan reported that the gelding had been pleasing in its work leading up to the event. He further added that KING KAPA will now be inspected by the stable veterinarian and he will report back to Stewards any findings and his future plans for the gelding.
I AM UNSTOPPABLE – Approaching the 1000m, had to be checked after improving onto the heels of I AM ARTIE, who was obliged to steady. Over-raced for a short distance thereafter.
MANHOOD – Approaching the 1000m allowed mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of APPI GIRL which had to check to avoid heel and carried in onto I AM ARTIE which was hampered.
SAFEWORK – Passing the 1000m, was obliged to steady to avoid heels.
APPIN GIRL – Approaching the 1000m had to be checked to avoid the heels of KING KAPA which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey C. Graham, the rider of KING KAPA was charged under AR 131(a) for carless riding, in that approaching the 1000m, she allowed her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of APPIN GIRL, which had to be checked to avoid heels and was carried in onto I AM ARTIE which was hampered. Jockey C. Grahams license to ride in races was suspended for 14 days commencing midnight the 21st of June and concluding midnight the 5th of July.
MILLANE – Began awkwardly.
I AM ARTIE – Hampered approaching the 1000m when racing in restricted room to the inside of APPIN GIRL, which had to be checked to avoid heels. Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 100m by BEWS, which shifted out to improve into clear running.
BEWS – Hampered shortly after jumping away and had its hindquarters contacted. Near the 900m had to be steadied off heels. Approaching the 100m, became awkwardly placed at the heels of the weakening PRINCE OF BOOM and when attempting to shift out around that runners heels, contacted I AM ARTIE.
Race 6: LADBROKES J.J. ATKINS - GROUP 1 1600 M
Prior the start of this event, GRAFTBURNERS became fractious in the barriers, was backed out and underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
COOL ARCHIE – Jockey M. Harley was fined $500 under AR131(c) for making a celebratory gesture prior to passing the winning post.
GRAFTERBURNERS – Bumped shortly after the start.
CALL DA VINCI – Passing the 1200m, had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of ZOUTANIUM, resulting in the gelding shifting in before being corrected.
TORQUE TO BE SURE – Passing the 1200m, was hampered by ZOUTANIUM which shifted out when over-racing. Over-raced for a short distance thereafter. Raced wide throughout. Carried wider passing the 500m and on entering the home straight, before commencing to lay in under pressure. Approaching the 200m, momentarily inconvenienced by PROVIDENCE, which laid in under pressure. Had to be steadied passing the 50m when racing in restricted room between FARNICLE which laid out and PROVIDENCE which shifted in under pressure.
THEE CREEK – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
HIDDEN ACHIEVEMENT – Hampered at the start. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight and was obliged to shift in passing the 400m to obtain clear running.
ZEBRA FINCH – Passing the 350m, was obliged to alter course to avoid the heels of HIDDEN ACHIEVEMENT which shifted in. Jockey J. McDonald the rider of HIDDEN ACHIEVEMENT was reprimanded under AR 131(a) for careless riding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
NAVY PILOT – Near the 350m, was obliged to alter course after becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of ZEBRA FINCH which shifted in to obtain clear running.
ZOUTANIUM – Bumped at the start. Raced fiercely in the early and middle stages. Raced wide. Obliged to steady on entering the home straight to avoid the heels of FARNICLE, which shifted out to improve into clear running, and TORQUE TO BE SURE, which laid in. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Co. Trainer N. Young was advised that the colt would now be required to complete an official trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards in relation to its racing manners prior to racing again. Co. Trainer N. Young advised that the colt would now be sent for a spell.
MORTAL HALO – Bumped shortly after the start. Passing the 1200m, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of CALL DA VINCI which shifted in while being restrained. Continued to over-race for a short distance thereafter. Held up for clear running approaching the 300m. When attempting to shift out, contacted GRAFTBURNERS and was disappointed for a run and obliged to shift back in.
PROVIDENCE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
Race 7: MAGIC MILLIONS DANE RIPPER STAKES - GROUP 2 1300 M
OLENTIA - Passing the 1000m, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of KONASANA. Jockey N. Rawiller the rider of KONASANA was reprimanded under AR 131(a) for careless riding.
FIRESTORM (NZ) – Hampered shortly after the start by TASHI which shifted out.
COCO JAMBOO (IRE) – Passing the 250m, raced in restricted room for a short distance and was unable to improve into a run between CITY OF LIGHTS and RUSSIAN ALLIANCE.
ABOUNDING – Over-raced in the early stages.
COMRADE ROSA - Inconvenienced shortly after the start by TASHI, which shifted out. Jockey T. Sherry the rider of TASHI was reprimanded under AR 131(a) for careless riding. Over-raced in the middle stages.
TASHI – Shifted out shortly after the start, bumped FIRESTORM and had its hindquarters turned in.
RED DEFCON – Passing the 900m was obliged to steady after improving onto heels.
EL MORZILLO – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Upon return to the mounting yard, the presence of blood was found in the filly’s mouth. EL MORZILLO was treated on course by the official veterinarian.
Race 8: THE STAR STRADBROKE HANDICAP - GROUP 1 1400 M
DESERT LIGHTNING (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Passing the 1250m, commenced to over-race when racing in restricted room to the inside of GOLDEN MILE. Held up for clear running upon entering the home straight. Approaching the 200m, became awkwardly placed on the heels of the weakening FRONT PAGE and was obliged to shift out to improve.
GOLDEN MILE – Held up for clear running passing the 400m until approaching the 250m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed
WAR MACHINE (NZ) – Raced wide.
PAYLINE– Began awkwardly.
PUNCH LANE – Raced wide.
FRONT PAGE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
FAR TOO EASY– Began awkwardly.
THE INFLICTOR – Over-raced in the early and middle stages.
SPICY MARTINI – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Approaching the 1000m, had to be checked and contacted the running rail when tightened for room by PAYLINE which was carried in by YELLOW BRICK, which was carried in by ROTHFIRE which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey C. Williams the rider of ROTHFIRE was charged under AR 131(a) for careless riding, in that approaching the 1000m, he allowed his mount to shift ground, resulting in YELLOW BRICK being carried in, taking PAYLINE into the running line of SPICY MARTINI, which was obliged to be checked and contacted the running rail. Jockey C. Williams license to ride in races was suspended for 14 days commencing midnight the 21st of June and concluding midnight the 5th of July.
COLEMAN – Slow to begin.
TRANSATLANTIC - Raced wide. Held up for clear running approaching the 100m and was obliged to shift out to improve into clear running.
Race 9: HKJC WORLD POOL THE Q22 - GROUP 2 2200 M
FAWKNER PARK (IRE) – Bumped at the start. Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 1000m, after shifting out to improve and being disappointed for that run, shifted back in.
MILITARIZE (NZ) – When questioned regarding the performance of MILITARIZE (NZ), Jockey J. McDonald reported that his mount was one paced and failed to quicken when placed under pressure in the home straight. Trainers’ representative B. Killian reported that he would endeavour to report back on the condition of the gelding in the days subsequent.
NEW ENDEAVOUR (IRE) – Raced wide in the early and middle stages before being allowed to stride forward and take up a position outside the lead approaching the 1000m.
BANKERS CHOICE (NZ) – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped FAWKNER PARK.
