GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following overweight:
Race 7: M. Harley +0.5kg (56kg)
As Apprentice B. Wheeler was indisposed, he was replaced as per the race day summary. Apprentice B. Wheeler was advised that a medical certificate would be required prior to racing again.
As Apprentice C. Sutherland was unable to make the allocated weight in Race 8, he was replaced on TEWKESBURY by J. Bayliss. Apprentice C. Sutherland was fined $200 pursuant to AR 190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight.
RACE 1: U&U RECRUITMENT QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD PLATE 1000 M
COURTHEZON – Jockey D. Moor was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts to the finishing line.
RAROTONGA – Approaching the 500m, was contacted by SUPER SWAZEY, which shifted out when attempting to improve.
SUPER SWAZEY – Held up for clear running approaching the 500m when attempting to shift out to improve and contacted RAROTONGA, resulting in SUPER SWAZEY being disappointed for the run and being obliged to shift back in.
RACE 2: ROAD TO MAGIC MILLIONS BOOK NOW CLASS 3 PLATE 1200 M
DEFERENTIAL – Hampered at the start and lost ground.
SIMPLY EXCELS – Blundered on jumping away. When questioned regarding the performance of SIMPLY EXCELS, Jockey R. Maloney reported that he became concerned with the gelding’s action when placed under pressure in the home straight and in his opinion, may not have appreciated today’s firm track conditions. A post- race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainers’ representative B. Cavanaugh was asked to report back on the condition of the gelding in the days subsequent.
ELLIBABY – Shifted in on jumping away. Over-raced in the early stages.
IVY DEXSTRESS – Passing the 800m, commenced to lay out rounding the home turn.
RACE 3: SKY RACING BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1600 M
Correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to view the photo finish for fourth place. Upon doing so and being comfortably satisfied, Stewards declared correct weight on judges’ numbers.
BLAZEN BOOTS (NZ) – Raced wide throughout. Lost its near fore plate.
THE CATCH – Hampered passing the 150m by ARABIAN ROSE, which shifted out under riding. Jockey T. Brooker the rider of ARABIAN ROSE was obliged to exercise greater care when allowing her mounts to shift ground in similar circumstances.
CHAMIERRO – Jockey J. Huxtable reported that it was not his intention to lead, however after beginning well and with no early speed to his inside, rather than being trapped wide, he allowed his mount to stride forward to take up a position on the rail.
MOB BUSTER – Declared a late scratching at 11:31am on veterinary advice. Trainer N. Boyle was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to racing again.
INDY ROSE WARRIOR (NZ) – Passing the 200m, was obliged to alter course and shift in after improving onto the heels of THE CATCH.
NOBLE CONQUEROR – Connections advised of a change of tactics in that NOBLE CONQUEROR would attempt to settle more forward. Bumped on several occasions with ROCK THE SUNRISE shortly after the start and settled at the rear of the field. Held up rounding the home turn. Disappointed for a run passing the 300m between BLAZEN BOOTS (NZ) and CINQUE TERRE and was obliged to shift wider to improve.
WAR DRAMA (NZ) – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped ARABIAN ROSE. Passing the 1400m, when the pace of the race slackened, had to be restrained when awkwardly placed on the heels of ARABIAN ROSE. Continued to over-race in the middle stages. Apprentice J. Franklin reported at scale that in his opinion the gelding may not have appreciated today’s firm track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer D. Maher advised that in his opinion the gelding is better suited to tracks with greater give and upon return to the stable would report back on the condition of WAR DRAMA (NZ) in the days subsequent.
CINQUE TERRE – Raced wide throughout.
ARABIAN ROSE – Bumped on jumping away.
ROCK THE SUNRISE – Bumped on several occasions with NOBLE CONQUEROR shortly after the start,

HA'PENNY HATCH (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
WORTHY ENUFF– Over-raced in the early and middle stages.
QUEEN JEDDAH – Slow to begin. Jockey M. Du Plessis reported at scale that in his opinion the filly may not have appreciated today’s firm track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
DO WHAT I SAY – Began awkwardly. Jockey A. Thompson reported at scale that he became concerned with the action of the filly when placed under pressure in the home straight and elected not to ride his mount out over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be short striding in front. Trainer N. Keal was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to racing again.
TRUCK STOP HONEY – Slow to begin.
After the running of this event, Stewards upgraded the track to a Good 3 at 1:37pm.
RACE 5: NOVA 106.9 QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1000 M
MANPOWER – Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight and approaching the 100m, had to be corrected after shifting in. A post-race veterinary examination revealed heat stress.
FORGOTTEN SPIRIT – Near the 500m, had to steady when awkwardly placed on the heels of MANPOWER, which shifted in as ROYAL MOVER rolled out marginally. Apprentice J. McMurray the rider of MANPOWER, was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding. Hung in throughout the event and as a result, Apprentice E. Lang had difficulty placing her mount under pressure over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed heat stress.
ROYAL MOVER – Began awkwardly. Raced in restricted room for a short distance passing the 800m and shifted out.
BOURBON COUNTY – After the running of this race, BOURBON COUNTY collapsed in stalls and subsequently was found to be deceased by the official race day veterinarian. The colt was sent to UQ Gatton for a post mortem analysis and swab samples were taken.
CARBONARA – Bumped the hindquarters of ROYAL MOVER shortly after the start. Held up for clear running passing the 200m, shifted out in an attempt to improve and approaching the 100m was disappointed for a run to the outside of ROYAL MOVER.
RACE 6: XXXX BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 1400 M
WINSTON SMURFHILL (NZ)– Began awkwardly and bumped IRAMA. Apprentice C. Sutherland reported at scale that in his opinion the gelding may not have appreciated today’s firm track conditions.
VIMINELE - Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight, shifted out, contacting LIGHT OF BOOM.
ALDOLFITO – Passing the 300m, laid in under pressure, brushing LADY LUCIFER. Jockey R. Hutchings reported at scale that in his opinion the gelding may not have run out todays 1400m distance. Trainer M. Hoysted advised that it was his intention to drop ALDOFITO drop back in distance next start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
LADY LUCIFER – Began awkwardly and bumped with TYPHOON TIP. Passing the 300m, shifted out whilst under riding, brushing ALDOLFITO and as a result was momentarily inconvenienced. When asked to comment on the performance of LADY LUCIFER, Apprentice E. Lang reported that the mare proved difficult to settle when racing with cover and was disappointing when asked for an effort in the home straight. She further added that LADY LUCIFER may not have appreciated today’s firm track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
LIGHT OF BOOM – Hampered and carried wider on entering the home straight by VIMINELE which shifted out to improve. Apprentice C. Collis the rider ofVIMINELE was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding.
IRAMA – Began awkwardly and bumped with WINSTON SMURFHILL (NZ). Held up for clear running for a short distance on entering the home straight.
TYPHOON TIP – Began awkwardly, bumped LADY LUCIFER and lost ground. Over-raced in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
RACE 7: LADBROKES SPRING HOSTED POTS BENCHMARK 80 HANDICAP 1800 M
WITHOUT REVENGE (GB) – Over-raced in the middle stages.
GALANO – At the point of the turn passing the 1500m, after improving onto heels, shifted wider. When asked to comment on the performance of GALANO, Jockey A. Mallyon reported that in his opinion the gelding may not have appreciated today’s firm track conditions.
VALIMI (FR) – When asked to comment on the performance of VALIMI (FR), Apprentice J. McMurray reported that in his opinion the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. Trainers representative V. Jonhson advised that the stable would report back on the condition of the gelding the days subsequent and put consideration into the VALIMI’s (FR) future racing plans.
RACE 8: CRICKS HIGHWAY QUEENSLAND CUP 2400 M
OUR ANCHORAGE (IRE) – When asked to comment on the performance of OUR ANCHORAGE (IRE) Jockey R. Hutchings reported that the gelding was one paced throughout and failed to respond when asked for an effort. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
NIKAU SPUR (NZ) – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after arriving late on course due to transport difficulties and was cleared to start.
THE RIGHT WAY (NZ) – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after arriving late on course due to transport difficulties and was cleared to start. Passing the 700m was hampered by TAPILDOODLEDO (NZ), which shifted in. Jockey M. Du Plessis the rider of TAPILDOODLEDO (NZ) was reprimanded and advised to stop and straighten his mounts when they shift ground in future.
QUEEN AIR – When asked to comment on the performance of QUEEN AIR, Jockey B. Thompson reported that the gelding had a tendency to over-race early which may have been detrimental to its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor recovery.
TAPILDOODLEDO (NZ) – Passing the 1000m, was permitted to shift wider to improve around the field to take up a leading position.
RACE 9: THE GIBSON CLASS 6 PLATE 1200 M
HE'S HEAVEN – Bumped on jumping away.
CATWALK CRIMINAL – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped HE'S HEAVEN. Commenced to give ground on entering the home straight and weakened noticeably over the concluding stages. Apprentice E. Lang reported that she became concerned with the action of the mare and elected to ease her mount down in the home straight. Trainer A. Campton advised that he would now put consideration into the future racing plans of CATWALK CRIMINAL. Lost its off-fore plate. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
STREET CHASE – Began awkwardly and made contact with the outside barrier partition.
RACE 10: TATTERSALLS MEMBERS CUP 1400 M
CIFRADO – Held up for clear running for a short distance passing the 500m.
ASTERO – Jockey M. Rodd reported at scale that in his opinion, ASTERO may not have appreciated today’s firm track conditions and that he became concerned with the gelding’s action over the concluding stages and as a result elected not to pressure his mount over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
BOYS NIGHT OUT – Got its head down as the start was effected and lost significant ground. Trainer M. Dunn was advised that a warning would now be placed on the gelding in relation to it’s barrier manners.
BATTLEFIELD – Held up for clear running in the home straight and was obliged to shift in to obtain clear running near the 300m.
WARBY – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
JONNY DA WOLF (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
SUPER DUCK – Began awkwardly.
