RACE 1: WIDDEN'S JACQUINOT FIRST YEARLINGS 2026 QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1000 M
JETHRO – Slow to begin.
YO LEV – On return to scale Apprentice C. Sutherland reported that he became concerned with the action of the colt over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be lame on its near hindleg. Trainer P. Butterworth was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to racing again.
SCARTOON – Laid out throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed mild heat stress.
VANZADEE (NZ) – When asked to comment on the below market expectations of VANZADEE (NZ,) Jockey B. Thompson reported that the filly travelled well in the early and middle stages however failed to let down in the home straight and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
LEAVES OF LORIEN – Slow to begin. Laid out under pressure in the home straight and passing the 50m was obliged to alter course after improving onto the heels of SCARTOON.
After the running of this race, Stewards upgraded the track to a Good 4.
RACE 2: SENQ CLASS 3 PLATE 1000 M
TEN GOOD REASONS (NZ) – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
ZOUBABY – Blundered on jumping and lost ground.
ALL TOO WILD – Slow to begin. Raced in restricted room for a short distance approaching the winning post.
EXPRESS CODE – Approaching the 100m was momentarily inconvenienced by TEN GOOD REASONS, which shifted in. Jockey A. Jones reported at scale that EXPRESS CODE failed to quicken as expected and in her opinion may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed heat stress.
RACE 3: CIVILPIPES BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 2406 M
TAPILDOODLEDO (NZ) – Inconvenienced and lost ground at the start.
KIRKEBY – Connections advised of a change of tactics in that KIRKEBY would attempt to settle more forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. Hampered on entering the home straight by DEMARCAY (GB) which was carried out by CONNECTICUT, which shifted out to improve. Jockey J. Bayliss the rider of CONNECTICUT was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding.
CONNECTICUT – Began awkwardly. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and was obliged to shift out to improve. Jockey J. Bayliss reported that in his opinion the gelding settled a pair too far forward. He further added that CONNECTICUT may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer C. Geran stated he would now put consideration into the geldings future racing plans and report back to Stewards in the subsequent days.
LA COMETA (NZ) – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
KALUAKOI – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
AMALGAMATION – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
BIKER – Slow to begin.
COUNTER (GB) – Over-raced in the early stages.
RACE 4: HIGGINS COATINGS CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1805 M
Prior to the running of Race 4, lightning strikes were detected within the vicinity of the racecourse, resulting in Stewards delaying the start of the event which was rescheduled to 2:03pm.
BLACKLIST (NZ) – Slow to begin. Momentarily inconvenienced on entering the home straight by MAZIS which shifted out to improve.
MAZIS - Held up for clear running passing the 600m and was obliged to shift out to improve.
SUNLORD – Over-raced in the middle stages and approaching the 700m had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of FIFTH FORCE.
SUN WORSHIPPER – Approaching the winning post became awkwardly placed on heels.
JENNI MOREESE – Slow to begin. Passing the 1400m, had to be steadied after improving onto heels.
DUSHENKA – Slow to begin. Passing the 1400m, had to be steadied after improving onto heels.
RACE 5: XXXX QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1400 M
Prior to the running of Race 5, lightning strikes were detected within the vicinity of the racecourse, resulting in Stewards delaying the start of the event however due to continued lightning and thunderstorm activity in the vicinity of the racecourse and with the forecast continued storm activity, Stewards deemed it unsafe to continue and the meeting was called off at 3:27pm.
