GENERAL
Due to the rescheduling of today’s meeting, Stewards took no action against late declarations of riders.
As Apprentice J. Williams was unable to claim his full allowance, he was replaced as per the race day summary. Apprentice J. Williams was fined $300 pursuant to AR 143(14)(a) for failing to claim his full allowance.
RACE 1: THE GIBSON MAIDEN PLATE 1840 M
CONCADOR – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages before being allowed to stride forward to take up a position outside the lead passing the 1400m.
MONTEVECCHIO – Hampered on jumping away. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
SOWILO RODINA – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Inconvenienced passing the 1700m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey D. Peisley was fined $500 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100m but less than 12 times in totality. Jockey D. Peisley was advised of his right of appeal.
ENJECTOR – Slow to begin. Jockey D. Moor reported at scale that he could offer no explanation for today’s disappointing performance and further added that ENJECTOR may appreciate tracks with more give in them. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
TACITLY – Momentarily held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
ARTISTIC TOUCH – Over-raced in the middle stages and approaching the 1200m had to be steadied after improving onto heels. Raced wide until approaching the 1000m before being restrained to take up a position at the rear of the field.
MISS CHAMONIX (NZ) – Shortly after straightening, shifted out abruptly to improve into clear running.
OUR SASSY PRINCESS – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Laid out in the early stages and passing the 1700m, shifted out, contacting SOWILO RODINA. Passing the 700m, was momentarily awkwardly placed at the heels of LOTTERY LINK, which shifted out. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
After the running of this race, Stewards upgraded the track to a Good 4 at 1:47pm.
RACE 2: RACECOURSE VILLAGE MAIDEN PLATE 1000 M
JUNGLE WARRIOR – Connections advised of a change of tactics in that JUNGLE WARRIOR would attempt to settle more forward. Ridden accordingly. When asked to comment on the seemingly improved performance of JUNGLE WARRIOR, Trainer A. Plumb explained that in her opinion the geldings last start at Eagle Farm on 07/01/26 was not run to suit JUNGLE WARRIOR, which settled at the rear of the field from a wide barrier. She added that it would now be the intention of the stable to continue to have the gelding be ridden more forward. Lost its near hind plate.
HANSAGLORY – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
OVER SPRAY – Raced wide. Passing the 200m, was momentarily inconvenienced by ARISTOCRATIC GIRL, which shifted out marginally. When asked to comment on the performance of OVER SPRAY, Jockey C. Graham reported that the gelding raced greenly throughout and, in her opinion, would derive benefit from today’s race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
ARISTOCRATIC GIRL – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
BAY OF THE SOUTH – Bumped on jumping away. Raced in restricted room for a short distance passing the 250m. When asked to comment on the performance of BAY OF THE SOUTH, Apprentice E. Lang reported that the mare did not appreciate the quick tempo of the race and that she had to make use of her mount in the early stages which may have had a detrimental effect to its finishing efforts. Trainer T. Gollan advised that the stable would place consideration into a change of tactics next start, and have the gelding settle further back. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
PEREGRINA PEARL – Became fractious in the barriers as the start was effected and as a result was slow to begin. Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance of PEREGRINA PEARL, Apprentice C. Sutherland reported that the mare became agitated prior to the start of the event and raced greenly throughout. He further added that in his opinion PEREGRINA PEARL would derive benefit from today’s race.A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Co-trainer E. Vincent was advised of the provisions of AR79(4).
CERETTI – Jumped away awkwardly.
SNITZSTREAM- Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped BAY OF THE SOUTH.
STAFFO – Jumped away awkwardly.
BLUE WHITE BLUE – Raced wide. Laid out rounding the turn passing the 600m.
RACE 3: SKY RACING QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000 M
ELNAJEEB – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
YARANGA – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
BOSS MODE – Jockey R. Maloney was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(i) for using his whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
OUTATICK – Had to be steadied passing the 800m after racing in restricted room for a short distance. Passing the 150m, raced in restricted room for a short distance when improving into a narrow run.
REIGN OF DAME – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
MISHANI MAUI – Was obliged to steady passing the 900m to avoid the heels of MERCATELLO, which was carried in by BETTERINDANUDE, which shifted in. Jockey L. Tilley the rider of BETTERINDANUDE was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding.
BETTERINDANUDE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey L. Tilley reported at scale that in his opinion the gelding may have choked down.
RACE 4: LADBROKES QUICK MULTI CLASS 5 HANDICAP 1600 M
SPANISH FOX – Bumped with MOOTESSA shortly after the start.
NAVAL SEAL – Slow to begin and was then hampered.
I'M HEROIC – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
ASPEN COLORADO (GER) - Raced in restricted room for a short distance passing the 300m between NAVAL SEAL and MORE TROUBLE (NZ), which both shifted ground marginally.
MORE TROUBLE (NZ) – Restrained from the outside barrier to take up a position closer to the rail.
GIVING DELIGHT – Began awkwardly. Raced in restricted room for a short distance on entering the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance of GIVING DELIGHT, Apprentice E. Lang reported that the gelding over-raced early, which may have had a detrimental effect on its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
MOOTESSA - Bumped with SPANISH FOX shortly after the start. Over-raced in the middle stages.
SIR BEVERIDGE – Passing the 50m, was obliged to alter course after improving onto the heels of the weakening SPANISH FOX, resulting in SIR BEVERIDGE being unable to be fully tested to the finishing line.
RACE 5: BECOME A BRC MEMBER BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1000 M
I AM VOODOO – Hampered on jumping away. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
AIR WE GO– Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
BUNDELLA – Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the early stages. Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 150m by APOLLO TEN, which shifted out and away from AIR WE GO, which laid out. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
APOLLO TEN – Hampered on jumping away. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight and was obliged to shift wider passing the 300m to improve into clear running.
SUPER FREEZE– Raced wide throughout. When asked to comment on the performance of SUPER FREEZE, Apprentice J. Franklin reported that after racing wide, his mount commenced to weaken when placed under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer T. Button was advised that SUPER FREEZE would be required to officially trial to Stewards satisfaction prior to racing again.
OOHLALOUVRE – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
RACE 6: GIRLS DAY OUT ON SALE NOW CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1400 M
TREPORTI – Over-raced in the early stages.
LAST COMMAND – Slow to begin.
VOLCANIC LOVE – Began awkwardly.
RACE 7: XXXX GOLD BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1400 M
WATERMELON – Passing the 350m, had to be checked after being carried out on to the heels of RETAINER by FIRST EMPIRE, which shifted out when insufficiently clear. Jockey M. Rodd the rider of FIRST EMPIRE pleaded guilty and was charged pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding, the particulars being that passing the 350m, he allowed his mount to shift out under riding, carrying WATERMELON out onto the heels of RETAINER and as a result WATERMELON had to be checked and made contact with RETAINER’s hindquarters . Jockey M. Rodd’s license to ride in races was suspended for 17 days commencing midnight 1st February and concluding midnight 18th February 2026. Jockey M. Rodd was advised of his right of appeal. Apprentice J. Williams, in the presence of Jockey Mentor S. Scriven, pleaded guilty and was fined $500 pursuant to AR 131(b) for failing to ride his mount out over the concluding stages. In determining penalty, Stewards took into account that it did not cost WATERMELON a place. Apprentice J. Williams was advised of his right of appeal.
HE'S FOR THE GIRLS – Connections advised of a change of tactics in that HE’S FOR THE GIRLS would settle more forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly – settled in the lead. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
SKORPIOS ISLE – Blundered on jumping away.
ARIAT – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
FIRST EMPIRE – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Approaching the 350m, shifted out, contacting WATERMELON and as a result FIRST EMPIRE became awkward in its stride, having its hindquarters contacted.
CRACKER ESSGEE– Raced wide throughout.
RETAINER – Began awkwardly. Passing the 350m, had its hindquarters contacted by WATERMELON, which was carried out by FIRST EMPIRE, which shifted out when insufficiently clear.
DIVA LAS VEGAS – Began awkwardly. Passing the 1400m was carried inwards by WATERMELON.
POUTCHEK (GB) – Raced in restricted room for a considerable distance passing the 1400m to the inside of DIVA LAS VEGAS, which was carried in by WATERMELON, which shifted in before being corrected by its rider. Apprentice J. Williams the rider of WATERMELON was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding.
PEE BEE NOIR – Passing the 350m, was obliged to steady to void the heels of WATERMELON, which had to be checked and as a result PEE BEE NOIR was obliged to shift in.
RACE 8: LADBROKES MATES MODE CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1840 M
PROCHESTER (NZ) – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
ARTSPACE (NZ) – Over-raced in the middle stages whilst being restrained to obtain cover. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
TAP HIGH – Hampered at the start. Over-raced in the early stages. Jockey V. Duric reported at scale that it was his intention to settle further forward, however after being hampered at the start, he was obliged to settle further back than anticipated.
COOL RUNNING – Began awkwardly and shifted out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed upper respiratory noises. Trainer M. Lakey was advised that a veterinary certificate inclusive of the results of an endoscopic examination would be required prior to racing again.
IN SOCIETY – Passing the 1000m had to be steadied after improving onto heels.
HAMILTON BROWN – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
ESPOIR DA TAP – Jockey M. Du Plessis reported at scale that his mount became awkward in its action when placed under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed clinical signs of heat stress.
DIOSA – Connections advised of a change of tactics in that DIOSA would attempt to settle back if circumstances permit. Began awkwardly and settled midfield. Passing the 1100m had to be restrained after improving onto heels whilst over-racing. Held up for clear running passing the 500m. Raced in restricted room on entering the home straight and was unable to improve into clear running until passing the 300m.
QUICK SHOT – Raced in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 200m.
