GENERAL
Co. Trainer A. Archibald was fined $200 under LR67(1) for the late declaration of B. Thompson as the rider of DON’TCHA THINK in Race 6.
RACE 1: BECOME A BRC MEMBER QTIS TWO-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1000 M
DIAMOND IMPACT – Had difficulty obtaining clear running from the 300m until the 200m.
SLING – Began awkwardly.
SYRIAN DIAMOND – Bumped on jumping away. Near the 600m, was bumped by ALL THOSE GLITTERS. Bumped and taken wider rounding the home turn when ALL THOSE GLITTERS shifted out to improve.
ALL THOSE GLITTERS – Hampered on jumping away. Near the 600m, whilst racing greenly bumped with SYRIAN DIAMOND.
SWEET REBELLION – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
HIGH AUTHORITY – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped SYRIAN DIAMOND.
RACE 2: RACECOURSE VILLAGE CLASS 6 HANDICAP 1000 M
EMPEROR – Began awkwardly. Apprentice J Williams pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR132(6)(b) and was fined $200 for using his whip above shoulder height.
ACRES AWAY– Slow to begin.
PROVANCE – Over-raced in the early stages.
RACE 3: XXXX GOLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1400 M
BENZINO – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after resuming from an extended spell and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly and shifted out. Approaching 1200m, when bumped, momentarily lost the use of his left iron before regathering. Near the 900m, when racing keenly momentarily steadied from heels and became unbalanced. Apprentice J. Williams reported at scale that he became concerned with his mounts’ action over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
FORGING AHEAD – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn until approaching the 200m.
FIFTY CALIBRE (NZ) – Over-raced and was obliged to steady from heels approaching the 1000m when the pace of the race slackened. Near the 900m, shifted in and made contact with the running rail.
TAM NA GHAR (NZ) – Change of tactics – settle more forward. Ridden accordingly – settled on speed. Jockey D. Moor reported at scale that his mount was inclined to lay out over the concluding stages.
RALOS STAR – Raced wide. Jockey M. Du Plessis reported at scale that his mount was inclined to over-race. Lost its near for plate.
PLEASE STAND UP – Over-raced in the early stages. Inclined to lay in in the home straight. Weakened over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Following today’s disappointing performance, Trainer D. Duryea was advised that PLEASE STAND UP would be stood down from metropolitan races until such time its form improves to the requisite standards. Trainer D. Duryea reported that the gelding would now be sent for a spell.
AMELIORATION – Hampered on jumping away and lost ground. Became fractious in the tie up stalls post-race and subsequently underwent a veterinary examination which revealed the mare to be bilaterally lame in its hindlegs and a laceration to its head. AMERIORATION was treated on course by the official race day veterinarian. Trainer B. Lang was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to racing again.
FRANKELY SUBLIME – Near the 900m, when racing keenly, was obliged to steady from heels and shift wider when the pace of the race slackened and raced wide for the remainder.
HERMIONE PRANCER – Change of tactics – settle more forward. Settled midfield after showing early speed. Near the 900m, when racing keenly was inclined to lay out and proved difficult to ride out.
GAS BRIGADE – Approaching the 1200m, bumped with BENZINO.
RACE 4: SOUTHS SPORTS CLUB QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1200 M
MOSHULU SPIRIT – Laid out in the early part of the home straight. Approaching the 1000m, raced in restricted room and had to be steadied when COOL MOON shifted in and away from QUICKZOU.
OUR MATE LOCKY – Slow to begin.
QUICKZOU - Apprentice J Williams pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR132(6)(b) and was fined $400 for using his whip above shoulder height. Apprentice J. Williams pleaded guilty and was fined $400 pursuant to AR185 for weighing out in boots that were different to that in which he rode in during the race.
THE STREET HERO – Slow to begin.
CONFORMITY – Bumped on jumping away. Hampered rounding the home turn when MOSHULU SPIRIT shifted out.
COOL MOON – Approaching the 1000m, shifted in and away from QUICKZOU. Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor was reminded of his obligations to ensure that he does not use his whip in an action that raises it above shoulder height.
EMPRESS ASPEN – Approaching the 200m, momentarily raced in restricted room to the inside of THE STREET HERO, which shifted in.
MISS ADRIFT - Became fractious in the barriers prior to the start being effected. Blundered on jumping away. Became awkwardly placed on heels approaching the 1000m and had to be steadied when COOL MOON shifted in. Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor the rider of COOL MOON was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding. Raced wide in the early stages.
EMPHATIQUE – Near the 1000m raced in restricted room. Held up from the home turn until approaching the 100m.
MAGIC SNITZEL – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped CONFORMITY.
Stewards inquired into an incident approaching the 1000m in which EMPHATIQUE raced in restricted room to the inside of MOSHULU SPIRIT, which was inconvenienced and had to be steadied when COOL MOON improved and shifted down the track to the inside of QUICKZOU, which was racing in advance to its outside. Stewards, after taking evidence and reviewing the available footage could not be comfortably satisfied that any one rider was at fault and as such took no further action and reported it as a racing incident.
RACE 5: SKY RACING BM68 HANDICAP 1800 M
TAJAWAL (IRE) – Held up rounding the home turn until approaching the 200m.
MORE TROUBLE (NZ) – Change of tactics – settle further forward. Ridden accordingly.
OKESUTORA – Raced wide until securing a position in the lead passing the 1200m. Apprentice R. Thorburn dropped his whip near the 300m. When asked to comment on the performance of OKESUTORA, Apprentice R. Thorburn could offer no explanation for the geldings’ disappointing performance and added that in his opinion OKESUTORA may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed mild heat stress and was treated on course by the official race day veterinarian. M. Currie Stable Representative advised that they would report back any significant findings on OKESUTORA in the subsequent days and would place consideration into applying a tongue to the gelding if they elect to continue on with its preparation.
JENNI MOREESE – Laid in when placed under pressure in the early part of the home straight.
RACE 6: GIRLS DAY OUT ON SALE NOW CLASS 3 PLATE 1400 M
MORAVIA – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped STOICISM (NZ).
STOICISM (NZ) – Bumped on jumping away and was hampered.
RACE 7: MAGIC MILLIONS DIGITAL CLASS 1 PLATE 1600 M
GONE TO CAPE YORK – Bumped on jumping away. Raced wide.
PROMINENT LAD – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped GONE TO CAPE YORK. Near the 900m, when restraining for cover behind CHIEF OF STAFF, raced ungenerously for a short distance.
ZEAMAIZE – Held up approaching the home turn until approaching the 300m.
HEADSTRONG – Raced wide.
SWAG – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide. Jockey B. Thompson reported at scale that it was his intention to race in a forward position, however, after being caught wide, elected to stay in that position rather than continue to pressure his mount to go forward.
POSSIBILITIES – Change of tactics – settle midfield. Ridden accordingly. Laid in in the early part of the home straight.
BATEMANS BAY (FR) – Change of tactics – settle more forward. Settled midfield. Approaching the 500m, became unbalanced after contacting the rail.
RACE 8: LADBROKES RACING EXTRA IN MULTI BM65 HANDICAP 1200 M
JUNGLE LAW – Raced wide.
ANSON BAY – Change of tactics – settle further back. Began awkwardly and settled toward the rear with cover.
CORRUPTED – Began awkwardly. Held up rounding the home turn until the 200m.
FLYING SHELLY – Near the 1000m, raced in restricted room and steadied for a position when awkwardly placed between SIMPLY EXCELS and PRETTY DUBIOUS which was taken out slightly by STEIN, which shifted out marginally. Over-raced in the middle stages.
PRETTY DUBIOUS – Raced in restricted room near the 1000m and was carried out slightly.
STEIN – Laid out over the concluding stages.
EXTREME SPIRIT – Slow to begin.
FAYETTA – Over-raced in the middle stages. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight.
