Race 6: LADY WINERMERE – Trainer C. Anderson advised that the mare had recovered well and would now be sent for a spell.
GENERAL
Co. Trainer W. Hulbert was reprimanded pursuant to LR 36(6)(a) for failing to scratch ZOOLOGY by the prescribed time which was a dual acceptor in races 7 and 8.
Race 1: SOUTHS SPORTS CLUB QTIS TWO-YEARS-OLD HANDICAP 1000 M
SWIFT DRAGON – Jockey R. Wiggins reported at scale that in his opinion SWIFT DRAGON did not handle todays racing conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Lost its near hind plate.
OREGON COAST – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
IT'SALL ABOUT MARY - Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.
MADAME DOUBTFIRE – Approaching the 900m, was obliged to steady to avoid the heels of ELLA'S LEGACY, which shifted out before being corrected. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight.
PEMBREY – Laid out over the concluding stages.
Race 2: RACECOURSE VILLAGE BM78 HANDICAP 1000 M
FIND YOUR OWN - When asked to comment on today’s performance, Apprentice C. Baker reported that her mount was inclined to over-race early and lay in which was detrimental to its finishing efforts and when placed under pressure, failed to respond.
PORT ERIN – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
VINDICTA – Momentarily inconvenienced approaching the 250m by PORT ERIN, which shifted in before being corrected. When asked to comment on today’s performance, Apprentice E. Lang reported that VINDICTA never travelled comfortably and in her opinion may not have appreciated today’s track conditions.
ROYAL COMMODORE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
MOONHAVEN – Slow into stride. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight until passing the 300m.
LARADO –Began awkwardly. Raced in restricted room for several strides shortly after the start. Approaching the 600m, raced in restricted room for a short distance when attempting to shift out to improve. Rounding the home turn, was obliged to shift wider to secure clear running. Jockey D. Moor reported at scale that in his opinion, LARADO may not have appreciated today’s track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
Race 3: LADBROKES FAST PAYOUTS BM70 HANDICAP 1820 M
The start of this event was delayed approximately 2 mins, owing to LUTON HOO (NZ) having to have its tongue tie reapplied behind the barriers.
DIAMOND EPIC – Slow to begin. Was obliged to alter course and shift in on entering the home straight. Passing the 300m shifted in, contacting CARACORON (NZ), resulting in DIAMOND EPIC having to alter course and shift out.
REZONE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
ECLAIR AWESOME – Apprentice B. Osmond reported at scale that his mount over-raced in the early stages, which was detrimental to its finishing efforts and when placed under pressure, failed to respond. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
LUTON HOO (NZ) – Apprentice M. Philpot reported at scale that her mount may not have appreciated today’s soft track conditions.
CARACORON (NZ) – Passing the 250m, was disappointed for a run and shifted in to improve into clear running.
Race 4: SKY RACING BM70 HANDICAP 1200 M
SUPERALLOY – Raced wide. Passing the 100m, was obliged to alter course after improving onto the heels of the weakening DREAM LANTERN.
RUNWITHTHETIDE - Raced wide. When asked to comment on performance, Jockey D. Moor reported that RUNWITHTHETIDE was not suited to being first up on a soft track, however in his opinion would derive benefit from today’s event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
BLUE SPINEL - Raced wide.
DREAM LANTERN – Laid in in the early part of the home straight. When asked to comment on performance, Jockey V. Duric reported that DREAM LANTERN may not have appreciated today’s track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. Trainer L. Hatch advised that DREAM LANTERN would now be sent for a spell.
JUST PRECIOUS - Raced wide.
THAT'S AN EXTRA – Jockey L. Tilley reported that THAT'S AN EXTRA may have gotten its tongue over the bit. Trainer P. Webster advised that the mare wore a new tongue control bit today and his opinion may have resented it. He further added that it was now his intention to experiment with gear, with the possible addition of a tongue tie next start.
APOLLO TEN – Raced in restricted room for a short distance passing the 200m and shifted in and away from SAVAGERY VIBE, which shifted in to improve.
SAVAGERY VIBE – Over-raced in the early stages and passing the 800m, had to be steadied off heels. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight until shifting in to secure clear running passing the 200m.
Race 5: BECOME A BRC MEMBER QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD HANDICAP 1200 M
BLITZBURG – When asked to comment on the tactics adopted today, Apprentice J. Franklin explained that his instructions were to be positive early, and after beginning well from an inside barrier, he elected to allow his mount to stride forward and take up a position in the lead.
DRAGONNE ROUGE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey B. Thompson reported that his mount may not have appreciated today’s soft track conditions and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
EKHIDNA - Over-raced in the early stages.
BRUTAL MISS – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
MRS GOLDBERG – Over-raced in the early stages.
THE POOL BOY – Slow to begin. Momentarily held up for clear running approaching the 200m and was obliged to shift in to improve.
Race 6: XXXX QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD HANDICAP 1820 M
GIAPPONESE – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 100m, attempted to improve into a run between TACITLYand KOOLATAH QUEEN and as that run closed, became awkwardly placed on heels, resulting in GIAPPONESE being unable to be fully tested to the finish. Apprentice C. Sutherland reported at scale that his mount over-raced throughout.
NORTH POLE – Apprentice J. Franklin reported that NORTH POLE over-raced in the early and middle stages and after attempting to restrain the gelding, NORTH POLE commenced to race fiercely and as such, he elected to allow the gelding to travel comfortably and settle at its own speed.
BARCELO – When asked to comment on performance, Jockey A. Mallyon reported that BARCELO failed to respond to his riding efforts and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
TACITLY – Hampered on jumping away.
VALOURI – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
KOOLATAH QUEEN – Slow to begin.
Race 7: GIRLS DAY OUT 7 MARCH HANDICAP 1400 M
GREEN FLY (GB) – Slow to begin.
AGE OF KINGS (IRE) – Change of tactics – settle further back. Ridden accordingly.
JOHN RAMBO – Over-raced in the early stages. Passing the 1100m, had to be steadied after improving onto heels.
QUEEN AIR – Raced wide throughout.
FREE CARRY – Passing the 200m, shifted in and away from TONNEOFGRIT, which improved to the inside, resulting in FREE CARRY contacting SUPER DUCK and having its hindquarters turned. When asked to comment on performance, Apprentice E. Lang reported that in her opinion FREE CARRY may not have appreciated today’s track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
LADY SHOTGUN – Slow to begin.
TONNEOFGRIT – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
SHIHAB – Began awkwardly. When asked to comment on performance, Jockey D. Moor reported that SHIHAB travelled comfortably in the early and middle stages, however when asked for an effort, failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
SUPER DUCK – Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 250m. Lost its off-hind plate.
Following the running of this race, with heavy showers passing through the vicinity of the racecourse, Stewards downgraded the track to a Soft 7 retrospective of Race 7.
Race 8: DRINKWISE BM85 HANDICAP 1600 M
COSMIC VEGA (IRE) – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted today, in particular COSMIC VEGA (IRE) leading, Apprentice C. Baker reported that she was instructed to be forward and after beginning well, was unable to obtain cover so elected to allow her mount to stride forward and take up a leading position. She further added that when placed under pressure, the gelding failed to respond to her riding and in her opinion may be better suited to racing with cover. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame on its off foreleg. Trainer C. Maher was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to racing again.
ZOOLOGY (GB) – Raced wide throughout.
DEMON DARB – Leaving the 400m, became awkwardly placed on the heels of JUST FLYING when attempting to improve to that runners outside and as a result became awkwardly placed on heels for a considerable distance. Raced in restricted room leaving the 150m.
NAVAL SEAL – Slow to begin.
NOBLE CONQUEROR – Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight. Raced in restricted room for a short distance passing the 200m, before being able to improve into clear running.
THAT'S MOLLY – Slow to begin. Raced in restricted room for a short distance passing the 200m.
KATDEEL – Had to be steadied passing the 150m when racing in restricted room between ZOOLOGY and JUST FLYING, which shifted out. Apprentice E. Lang the rider of JUST FLYING was advised to exercise greater care when allowing her mounts to shift ground. When asked to comment on performance, Jockey C. Graham reported that after racing in restricted room passing the 150m, her mount failed to respond to her riding over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
Race 9: CRICKS HIGHWAY HANDICAP 1000 M
WANDA ROX – Began awkwardly and shifted in, contacting POWER OF THE BRAVE, and lost its off-side winker.
VODKA MARTINI – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
CHAKRA BOY – Raced wide throughout. Jockey T. Brooker reported at scale that after beginning well she was caught wide and when asked for an effort on straightening, CHAKRA BOY commenced to weaken. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer S. Livingstone advised that CHAKRA BOY would now be sent for a spell.
SHALAA'S MOMENT – Hampered on jumping away and lost ground.
MANOLO BLING – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
POWER OF THE BRAVE – Began awkwardly, was then inconvenienced and lost ground.
Race 10: LADBROKES HOSTED POTS BM85 HANDICAP 1200 M
MASTER SHOWMAN – Shortly after the start, had to be steadied after becoming awkwardly placed on heels. Over-raced in the early stages and passing the 900m, had to be steadied after shifting out and becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of MILLANE. Laid out rounding the turn.
MILLANE – Held up for clear running approaching the 200m and was obliged to shift in to improve into clear running.
SLIPPIN’ JIMMY – Hampered shortly after the start.
FLAG HALL – Raced in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 200m.
IRON MAN – Hampered shortly after the start. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight and passing the 250m, raced in restricted room for a short distance when attempting to improve into a narrow run between SLIPPIN’ JIMMY and POCKET FULL.
JONNY DA WOLF – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages. Apprentice T. Fenlon was fined $200 pursuant to AR132(6)(b) for using her whip above shoulder height.
POCKET FULL – Laid in in the early part of the home straight.
MEMORIA – Declared a late scratching at 2:55pm on veterinary advice. Trainer K. Lees was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to MEMORIA racing again.
FACUNDO – Obliged to steady passing the 200m to avoid the heels of JONNY DA WOLF, which shifted out under riding. Apprentice T. Fenlon the rider of JONNY DA WOLF was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding.
ESTRONDO – Raced in restricted room for a several strides shortly after the start to the outside of GOSPEL GIRL, which shifted out. Apprentice E. Lang the rider of GOSPEL GIRL was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground. Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Held up for clear running on entering the homes straight. Passing the 250m, had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of FACUNDO, which shifted in under riding. Jockey C. Collis the rider of FACUNDO was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground.
HEROIC MISS – Began awkwardly.
