SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
Stewards concluded an adjourned inquiry into an incident which occurred passing the 200 metres in Race 6 at Doomben on 7 February 2026 involving Jockey Kyle Wilson-Taylor, the rider of RAMP IT UP.
After considering evidence and submissions regarding RAMP IT UP’s previous racing mannerisms, Jockey Wilson-Taylor was charged under AR 131(a) careless riding, the particulars being that passing the 200 metres he permitted his mount to shift out under riding when insufficiently clear of EARL OF BANTRY, making heavy contact with that runner and, after making contact, continued to use his whip and shift outwards. As a consequence of that shift, EARL OF BANTRY was carried out onto HE’S FOR THE GIRLS, which was severely checked and in turn carried out onto LAND BANK. LAND BANK sustained heavy contact to its hindquarters and was forced outward into the running of LARIDAE, which was checked, resulting in its rider becoming unbalanced and shifting outwards onto MAKE A CALL, which was hampered.
Jockey Wilson-Taylor pleaded guilty to the charge. In assessing penalty, Stewards considered evidence from Jockey Wilson-Taylor that the outward shift by RAMP IT UP was not intentional, and that he was not aware at the time that his mount’s head had turned out when placed under pressure. He stated that upon review of the patrol footage he became aware that RAMP IT UP commenced to shift ground at or about the time he changed his whip from his right hand to his left hand and was in the action of applying the whip. Stewards took this explanation into account, however, were satisfied that notwithstanding his evidence, he failed to take sufficient corrective action to prevent his mount from shifting out when insufficiently clear of runners racing to his outside.
Stewards determined the interference to be in the high-range having regard to the degree of interference and the significant consequential impact on multiple runners. Jockey Wilson-Taylor’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of nineteen (19) days, to commence at midnight 17 February 2026 and to conclude at midnight 8 March 2026.
