GENERAL
 
Stewards permitted the following overweight:
 
Race 6: Jockey R. Wiggins +0.5 (56kg)
 
As Jockey R. Maloney was unable to make the allocated weight in Races 3 and 8 he was replaced on EL JASOR and FIRST EMPIRE by K. Wilson Taylor. Jockey R. Maloney was fined $200 pursuant to AR 190(3) for accepting a ride’s when overweight.
 
RACE 1:SOUTHS SPORTS CLUB QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP   1300 M

NAUGHTY NEIL – Over-raced in the early stages.
 
BODMIN MOOR – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced keenly approaching the 800m.
 
MURKADO – Hung out rounding the home turn and severely in the home straight, obliging its rider to stop and straighten on several occasions. Trainer B. Laming was advised that a warning would now be placed on the colt in relation to its racing manners.         
 
RACE 2:RACECOURSE VILLAGE CLASS 3 PLATE 1000 M

NEIL – Raced wide in the early stages.

SEAMS LOGICAL - Began awkwardly and lost ground. Hung out rounding the home turn.
 
DAGGERS – Raced keenly approaching the home turn, before being held up in the early part of the home straight.
 
INSIDE MAN – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
MORE LOVE – Raced wide throughout.
 
SILK SONIC – Near the 800m, had to be steadied from the heels of ANGEL LADDER, whichcrossed when insufficiently clear. Apprentice T. Fenlon the rider of ANGEL LADDER was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding. When asked to comment on the performance of SILK SONIC, Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor reported that in his opinion the mare would appreciate racing surfaces with more give in them. A post-race veterinary inspection revealed a slow recovery.
 
ANGEL LADDER – A post-race veterinary inspection revealed an abrasion to it’s offside nostril.
 
LA BELLA BOOM – Blundered on jumping away and lost ground.         
 
Following the running of this event, Stewards upgraded the track to a Good 4 at 12:50pm.

RACE 3: SKY RACING BENCHMARK 80 HANDICAP   2200 M

PLACID PEARL - Hampered shortly after the start.
 
EL JASOR (IRE) – Shifted in at the start.         
 
JACK DUGGAN (USA) – Began awkwardly     
 
LOVEY DOVEY - Bumped on jumping away and lost ground. Jockey A. Mallyon reported at scale, that in his opinion LOVEY DOVEY was not suited to the moderate tempo in the middle stages of the event and added that the mare raced flat. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainers’ representative B. Killion advised that LOVEY DOVEY would now be sent for a spell.

CLYDE – Began awkwardly.                  
 
RACE 4: DRINKWISE CLASS 6 PLATE  1200 M

ABOUT TO EXPLODE – Inclined to lay in when placed under pressure in the early part of the home straight.
 
RESTONICA – Began awkwardly.
 
BUNKER HUT (NZ) – Began awkwardly. When asked to comment on the performance of BUNKER HUT (NZ), Apprentice J. McMurray reported that the gelding did not let down in the home straight as expected and proved disappointing.
 
MILLANE – Began awkwardly.
 
RACE 5: BECOME A BRC MEMBER BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP  1830 M

MAKE A CALL – Held up approaching the home turn. Raced greenly near the 200m. Laid out over the final 100m. Apprentice C. Baker was advised to stop and straighten her mounts in similar circumstances.

ABSOLUTE SUNSHINE – Trainer G. Thornton was fined $100 pursuant to AR106(2) forpresenting ABSOLUTE SUNSHINE to the mounting yard without blinkers. Bumped approaching the finishing line when MAKE A CALL shifted out under riding.   
 
RING BEARER - Raced wide throughout. Apprentice C. Sutherland reported at scale that after beginning only fairly, he was unable to secure a position near the rail and was obliged to race wide.
 
ROCK YA (NZ) – Jockey M. Rodd reported at scale that ROCKY YA (NZ) was inclined to lay in throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
LA ROSETTA - Raced wide throughout.

BOLD BLAZE – Raced wide throughout. Near the 250m, had to be steadied from heels of ABSOLUTE SUNSHINE, which shifted out.

HOKKAIDO (NZ) – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early stages, improved onto heels near the 1600m and had to be steadied.

 
RACE 6: XXXX OPEN HANDICAP  1000 M

SHA OF GOMER – Began awkwardly, was hampered and lost ground.
 
SCAMPI – Shifted in on jumping away. Apprentice J. McMurray was fined $300 pursuant to AR 211(2) for weighing in overweight.
 
SPEED LEGEND - Hampered shortly after the start and lost ground.
 
FLEETWOOD – Slow to begin. Jockey B. Thompson reported at scale that after being slow to begin, he elected to settle back rather than be caught wide.         
 
EMPEROR Shifted out on jumping away.

 
RACE 7: MORETON HIRE CLASS 6 HANDICAP  1600 M

RHAPSODY CHIC (NZ) – Change of tactics – attempt to settle further forward. Ridden accordingly. Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
CHO OYU – A post-race veterinary examination revealed significant heat stress. Trainer B. Lockwood was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to racing again.
 
FREE CARRY - Laid out in the early part of the home straight before being corrected.
 
FACUNDO - Trainer K. Schweda advised Stewards that in light of FACUNDO over-racing in today’s event, it was likely that he would remove the blinkers next start. He further added that it was his intention to send the gelding for a spell.
 
JUST FLYING - Began awkwardly and bumped ARATIRI. Near the 250m, was disappointed for a run to the inside of FREE CARRY, which after laying out in the early part of the home straight, shifted back in near that point. JUST FLYING was then obliged to steady from heels and shift out to secure clear running.
 
LUPINE (NZ) - Trainer B. Healy was fined $100 pursuant to AR106(2) forpresenting LUPINE (NZ) to the mounting yard with winkers. Laid out over the concluding stages.
 
ECLAIR AWESOME – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Held up from the 400m until the 100m.
 
I'M HEROIC – Over-raced in the early and middle stages.

ARATIRI – Bumped on jumping away.
 
DENETTA – Tired over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
RACE 8: STRADBROKE SEASON ON SALE NOW BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP  1400 M

TEN DEEP (GB) – Began awkwardly and bumped heavily with AMUSEANTES. Held up rounding the home turn until leaving the 150m.
 
CAPTAIN MAVERICK (IRE) – Carried wider near the 1000m when ZAHER (NZ) shifted out whilst over-racing. Raced wide for the remainder of the event.
 
ZAHER (NZ) – Commenced to over-race shortly after the start and continued to race ungenerously until the 1000m, before being steadied from heels and shifting out. Continued to over-race for some distance.
 
AMUSEANTES - Began awkwardly, bumped heavily with TEN DEEP (GB) and lost ground. Held up approaching the home turn. Had difficulty obtaining clear running from the 350m until leaving the 150m.

STARBOARD – Restrained from the wide barrier at the start. Raced keenly near the 1000m.

GOLDEN CROSS – Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Approaching the 1000m, improved onto heels and shifted out. Had difficulty securing clear running in the early part of the home straight until approaching the finishing line and was unable to be fully tested by its rider.      


RACE 9: LADBROKES OWNERS PROMOTION QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP *** WEIGHTS RAISED 1KG*** 1200 M

SPANISH TREASURE – Blundered on jumping away. Jockey R. Maloney dropped his whip near the 100m. Laid out over the concluding stages.
BRAVE MONARCH - Held up rounding the home turn until approaching the 300m. Approaching the 200m, was obliged to ease wider when YOURE NOT THE KING shifted out slightly.
 
THE WHEELBARROW – Galloped on rounding the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a mild abrasion to its off hindleg.
 
DR FARTHING – Inclined to lay out throughout. Laid out whilst weakening in the home straight.
 
HE'S TRU BLUE (GB) - Slow to begin. Rounding the home turn, improved onto the heels of THE WHEELBARROW, which shifted in slightly and had to be steadied.
 
THE POOL BOY – Apprentice J. McMurray reported at scale that THE POOL BOY was inclined to lay out under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed clinical signs of the thumps.

YOURE NOT THE KING – Carried wider over the concluding stages when SPANISH TREASURE laid out.
