GENERAL
Stewards approved the following overweight request:
Race 5. J. Guthmann-Chester +1kg
Prior to the running of race 4, jockey R. Maloney was found to be weighing out with an unapproved safety vest. Jockey Maloney was fined $600 pursuant to AR188(c). In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account jockey Maloney’s clear record under the rule and relevant penalty precedents.
RACE 1:BECOME A BRC MEMBER MAIDEN PLATE 1000 Metres
GRAM – Inconvenienced near the 150m by SWORD OF LEGACY which shifted in under pressure. Jockey J. Bayliss, rider of SWORD OF LEGACY, was advised to exercise greater care.
YOWERI – Began awkwardly then blundered shortly after. Raced in restricted room near the 750m. A post race veterinary examination revealed a small laceration to the near fore fetlock.
MAJOR HOT – Raced in restricted room near the 750m. Raced wide throughout.
RED MOON RISING – Steadied shortly after the start when GRAM shifted in. Jockey R. Maloney, rider of GRAM, was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident. Raced greenly in the early stages. Improved onto heels near the 50m and shifted out.
SWORD OF LEGACY – Began awkwardly. Raced greenly in the early stages. Raced in restricted room near the 750m. Laid in under pressure leaving the 200m.
USUAL LIMITS – Trainer D. Bell advised of a change of tactics – to be ridden with cover from the wide barrier. Ridden accordingly.
I TRIED SO HARD – Raced wide throughout. Near the 800m, steadied from the heels of GRAM which shifted in. Jockey R. Maloney, rider of GRAM, was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident. Cast the off hind plate.
Following the running of this race, the track was upgraded to a Soft (5).
RACE 2: XXXX SIDELINE BEER GARDEN BOOK NOW QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1000 Metres
ARGENTUM ROCK – Raced wide throughout.
MAGIC INVADER – Blundered on jumping. Cast the off fore plate.
PIERATA'S SPIRIT – Blundered on jumping after bumping heavily with GOSSAMER GLOW. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
BELLAZU – Slow to begin. Near the 600m, had to be steadied after improving onto heels.
DUCHESS DIFFICULT – Began awkwardly. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Over the final 100m, laid in resulting in its rider being unable to fully test the filly to the line. Rider J. Guthmann-Chester reported his mount was inclined to lay in throughout. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
GOSSAMER GLOW – Raced in restricted room near the 600m.
LADY MILAN – Blundered on jumping.
YOU DRIVE ME CRAZY – Raced wide throughout
YOUMEANDDUPRE – Raced wide throughout. Near the 600m, had to be steadied after improving onto heels.
RACE 3: STRADBROKE SEASON ON SALE NOW MAIDEN PLATE 1400 Metres
BON VADER – Over raced in the early stages.
SWING STATE – Began awkwardly and bumped with WOOT WOOT.
THE AVIATOR – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority. Near the 500m, had to be steadied when disappointed for a run between WEDDING VOW and JUSTA BARTY.
SATURDAYS GIRL – Connections advised of a change of tactics – intention for the mare to be ridden further forward. Settled in a rearward position. Improved onto heels near the 500m. When asked to comment, rider K. Wilson-Taylor reported that SATURDAYS GIRL failed to muster speed in the early stages, and rather than be caught wide he elected to take up a position closer to the rail.
UNCOMMON DAISY – Rider B. Thompson reported that in his opinion, the filly would benefit from a step up in distance.
JUSTA BARTY – Raced wide throughout.
WOOT WOOT – Bumped on jumping. Inclined to lay in under pressure approaching the 300m obliging its rider to stop and straighten.
RACE 4: SKY RACING QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1300 Metres
MURKADO – Raced in restricted room near the 600m. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Leaving the 100m, laid in under pressure and had to be straightened by its rider.
BRUMAL – Buffeted on jumping. Raced wide for the majority.
KICKUP ROCKY – Slow to begin. Raced wide with cover from the 800m.
THE THORNCASTER – Rider R. Maloney reported that in his opinion, his mount didn’t quicken as anticipated in the home straight and may have come to the end of its preparation.
BACIAMI – Momentarily raced in restricted room leaving the 100m.
COASTAL BOOM – Shifted out under pressure over the final 100m. Rider B. Thompson reported his mount raced greenly in the home straight. Trainer P. Shailer was advised that a warning would be placed on the colt’s racing manners.
MOMOKA (NZ) – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide throughout.
SUPER SWAZEY – Raced wide in the early stages.
RACE 5: LADBROKES STRADBROKE CALCUTTA BOOK NOW QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1800 Metres
CONTINGENCY (NZ) – Near the 1500m, improved onto heels and had to be steadied.
TOBY'S TRUSTY – Raced in restricted room approaching the 1700m and had to be steadied.
INQUICKTIME – Began awkwardly. Commenced to weaken from the 600m. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be have a cardiac arrythmia. Trainer’s representative O. Peoples was advised that INQUICKTIME will require a veterinary clearance inclusive of ECG and a 1000m gallop prior to racing again. Mr Peoples reported that it was the stables likely intention for INQUICKTIME to go for a spell.
LONESOME SOUL – Connections advised of a change of tactics – intention to settle further forward. Ridden accordingly. Raced wide until striding forward to the lead near the 1400m. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
PECCAVI – Connections advised of a change of tactics – intention to settle further forward. Settled in a midfield position with cover. Near the 1100m, had to be steadied from heels when the pace of the race slackened.
BOSS LOGIC – Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester was fined $500 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100m.
RACE 6: XXXX GOLD CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1200 Metres
KUNDABUNG (NZ) – Underwent a pre race veterinary examination after having not raced for an extended period. Began awkwardly. Steadied from heels of CHANTILLY over the concluding stages when CHANTILLY shifted out. Apprentice E. Lang, rider of CHANTILLY, was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding regarding this incident.
VALENCIA ROC (NZ) – Rider B. Thompson reported that it was not his intention to lead however after beginning well, he elected to allow the mare to travel in a comfortable rhythm which resulted in him finding the leading position.
CHANTILLY – Laid in under pressure on entering the home straight. Apprentice E. Lang was fined $100 pursuant to AR132(6)(b) for using her whip above shoulder height and $500 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100m. Approaching the 50m, when struck by the whip of another rider apprentice E. Lang had her whip dislodged. Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
ROSSO LEVANTO (NZ) – Slow to begin.
SEQUEL – Over raced in the early stages. Shifted out under pressure approaching the 200m.
TREVATT COURT – Over raced in the early stages.
CHICAGO KING – Began awkwardly.
RACE 7: MULLINS LAWYERS CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1000 Metres
VEIN GIRL – When asked to comment, apprentice C. Bellamy reported that she was obliged to make more use of the filly in the early stages obtain the lead and this had a detrimental effect on VEIN GIRLS’ finishing effort. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery and signs of mild heat stress.
IMPACT ZONE – Began awkwardly. Improved onto heels near the 500m and had to be steadied.
CAXTON LASS – Began awkwardly.
HEY DAISY – When asked to comment, apprentice C. Baker reported that in her opinion, HEY DAISY was travelling well enough to figure in the finish until passing the 500m, when at that point, BRAVEHEART shifted out to improve and from that point onwards her mount failed to respond to her riding and was disappointing. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
MISS MCLAREN – Trainer A. Campton was fined $200 pursuant to LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider.
SMART SHAZZA – Held up for clear running on entering and in the early stages of the home straight.
MERCIAN – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
RACE 8: LADBROKES MATES MODE BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 1600 Metres
RATTLE AND HUM (IRE) – Inclined to lay in throughout. Leaving the 300m, laid in and contacted the hindquarters of CAST PARTY resulting in both runners becoming unbalanced.
CAPE CRUSADER – Bumped on jumping.
SMART AS SMART – Bumped on jumping. Brushed and carried wider over the final 100m by THE IRISH.
THE IRISH (IRE) – Bumped on jumping. Shifted out under pressure over the final 150m and brushed SMART AS SMART on a number of occasions.
THINKHARDANDFAST – Displaced its nasal strip just prior to the start being effected and as a result did not carry this gear. Near the 250m, whilst weakening, became momentarily unbalanced when placed at the heels of THE IRISH. Jockey A. Jones reported that the mare travelled well throughout, however failed to respond to her riding and was disappointing. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery and a cough. Trainer B. Healey was advised that THINKHARDANDFAST would require a veterinary clearance inclusive of an endoscopic examination prior to racing again.
OCTOBER (NZ) – Bumped on jumping. Approaching the 100m, steadied from heels of CAST PARTY which shifted in momentarily.
CAST PARTY (GB) – Leaving the 300m, had its hindquarters turned by RATTLE AND HUM and became unbalanced. Laid in approaching the 100m before being corrected by its rider.
RACE 9: DRINKWISE CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1600 Metres
HIGHGROVE ROSE – Caught wide in the early stages before being restrained to the rear of the field near the 1100m. Jockey R. Maloney reported that his intention was to secure a midfield position with cover however, from the wide barrier he was unable to secure this position and therefore elected to restrain which forced him to settle further back than anticipated. He further added that the filly put in an awkward stride near the 600m and then failed to respond to his riding in the home straight and proved disappointing. Trainer J. Bruce confirmed the riding instructions however he was disappointed in the performance and would report back to Stewards in the coming days. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
KADESKY – Bumped on jumping.
LOCH AWE – Hampered at the start and lost ground. Steadied from heels near the 1000m when the pace of the race slackened.
SUMMATION – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Had difficulty obtaining clear running from the 200m to the 100m.
SOMETHIN IN ORANGE – Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
CANTARITO – Connections advised of a change of tactics – intention to settle further forward. Slow to begin and settled towards the rear. Steadied from heels near the 1000m when the pace of the race slackened. Held up for clear running from the 300m until the 200m. Cast the near fore plate.
CHAYSE 'N' BODHI – Restrained at the start to take up a position closer to the inside rail. Steadied from heels near the 1000m when the pace of the race slackened. Apprentice C. Baker momentarily lost the use of her offside rein near the 200m.
LOFTY MACSPORRAN – Connections advised of a change of tactics - intention to settle on pace. Settled midfield. Bumped with KADESKY at the start. Laid in under pressure passing the 200m before being corrected by its rider.
MISS ADRIFT – Over raced in the middle stages. Apprentice B. Osmond reported that the mare travelled comfortably until the 500m then failed to respond to his riding. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery and clinical signs of the thumps.
