RACE 9:HKJC WORLD POOL Q22        2200 M

HALF YOURS – When questioned regarding the performance of HALF YOURS and whether she had an opportunity to improve her position during the middle stages of the event, Jockey J. Melham explained that, whilst she had considered making a forward move at various stages, she was mindful of the prevailing heavy track conditions and was reluctant to place the gelding under pressure too far from home. Jockey Melham stated that she was of the opinion that asking HALF YOURS to improve significantly during the middle stages may have been detrimental to its finishing effort. She further explained that upon placing the gelding under pressure approaching and upon straightening, HALF YOURS failed to respond as anticipated and, in her view, raced flat over the concluding stages. Jockey Melham added that the gelding may have come to the end of its current preparation. Co-Trainer T. McEvoy advised that, in his opinion, the eventual winner had been afforded an uncontested lead and was able to dictate the tempo of the race without being subjected to any significant pressure throughout the middle stages. Mr McEvoy stated that this was a contributing factor to HALF YOURS being unable to make sufficient ground on the winner in the home straight, particularly given the manner in which the race was run. Mr McEvoy further advised HALF YOURS had reached the end of its preparation and, as a result, the gelding would now be sent for a spell. He undertook to report back to Stewards should anything become apparent regarding the gelding's condition in the days following the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
