RACE 1: GIBSON MAIDEN HANDICAP         1300 M

MOSCOW MULE (NZ) – Slow to begin. Raced three wide throughout.
 
MR BETTERMAN – Raced keenly in the middle stages.
 
ASSUMED – Late withdrawal at 8:08am on veterinary advice. Trainer’s representative B. Killion was advised a veterinary certificate would be required prior to racing again.

MINI BOO - Approaching the 200m, steadied when tightened between MR BETTERMAN and PROPHET OF DESTINY (App J. Franklin), which shifted out under pressure. Apprentice J. Franklin was advised to exercise greater care.

RACE 2: COUNTRY MUSIC RACEDAY ON SALE NOW MAIDEN PLATE 1600 M

HURRICANE HANK – Slow to begin.
 
ICONIFY – Slow to begin.

OAKFIELD GALAXY – Raced wide without cover from the 700m. Lost off fore plate in running.
OLD FAITHFUL (NZ) - Three wide without cover throughout.
 
YELARBON LAD – Approaching the 300m was inconvenienced and taken out slightly by ICONIFY (App L. Martyn), which shifted out to improve. Apprentice L. Martyn was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding.

SATURDAYS GIRL – Change of tactics – attempt to settle further forward. Began awkwardly, lost ground and settled towards the rear of the field. Raced keen early. Rider R. Maloney could offer no explanation for today’s disappointing performance, adding the mare may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
SPEEGLE - Near the 1200m, steadied when racing in restricted room and subsequently commenced to race keenly.
 
TASSORATI – Began awkwardly and shifted out.

RACE 3: LADBROKES MATES MODE BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP  1600 M

GRINZINGER KNIGHT – Eased down approaching the 100m. Apprentice C. Baker reported the gelding did not travel at any stage of the race, was disappointing and may not have been suited to today’s track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. Trainer H. Richardson was advised that GRINZINGER KNIGHT would be required to Officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
 
MISS CHASTAIN (IRE) – Slow to begin.

RACE 4: SKY RACING QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1200 M

OLIVERJOHNNY – Slow to begin.
 
AGADOO – Rider A. Allen reported the filly hung in for the majority of the event, particularly when placed under pressure in the home straight.

ENTERPRISE JAMAYKA – Slow to begin.       

TOOBLOOS – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 300m, steadied and inconvenienced when disappointed for a run between ARCTIC BRIGHT (NZ) and AGADOO (A. Allen), which shifted in when hanging. Rider A. Allen was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Passing the 250m, steadied and shifted to the outside of AGADOO to obtain clear running.
 
RACE 5: MEKKA RACEDAY ON SALE NOW CLASS 3 HANDICAP      1400 M

DAMEHOOD (NZ) – Tardy to begin.
 
OUR SMOKESHOW (NZ) - Laid out rounding the home turn and in the home straight. When using his whip approaching the winning post and racing close to DIAMOND SHOW (App C. Bellamy), rider M. Rodd made contact with Apprentice C. Bellamy.

BERTUS – Raced wide without cover early.
 
 
RACE 6: DRINKWISE CLASS 1 HANDICAP  1200 M

TEELG – Became fractious in the tie up stalls, underwent a veterinary examination, which revealed abrasions to its off hindleg and subsequently declared a late withdrawal at 2:31pm.
 
TRANSGRESS – Slow to begin.  
 
STEIN – Change of tactics – attempt to settle with cover. Settled just off the speed.   

IMMEDIATE – When under pressure in the straight, laid in. When questioned regarding tactics, Apprentice C. Baker stated she was instructed to lead on the mare. Stable representative C. Cavanaugh confirmed the instructions adding that the stable felt as there was no speed in the race following the withdrawal of LEBANESE, they had decided to go forward on the mare as it has been successful previously when ridden this way. Stable representative C. Cavanaugh was fined $200 pursuant to AR100(1)(a) for failing to notify Stewards of a change of tactics.

ESTEE EMM – Laid in towards the heels of STEIN, which was shifting out under pressure, and was inconvenienced.


RACE 7: XXXX GOLD BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP         1000 M

ARISPHERE – Apprentice L. Martyn reported the mare was inclined to hang out rounding the home turn and proved disappointing when placed under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Apprentice L. Martyn was reminded of her obligations to ride her mounts to the end of the race, where possible.

REVALENE – Lost its off fore plate in running.
 
AIR WE GO – Bumped leaving the gates.        

FRAGILE LOVE – Began awkwardly and contacted AIR WE GO.

OUTWEIGHED – Bumped leaving the gates.

I AM VOODOO – Contacted on the hindquarters leaving the gates.

BLUE ALLURE – On leaving the gates shifted in and hampered SHE OURS, which contacted the hindquarters of I AM VOODOO, which bumped OUTWEIGHED.
 
SHE OURS – Hampered at the start.
 
RACE 8: LADBROKES QUICK MULTI BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP   1800 M
 
 
DIVAKARA – Over the final 100m had some difficulty obtaining clear running.
 
VALOROUS POWER (GER) – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Held up for a run rounding the home until the 250m. Shifted its near fore plate in running
 
SAN GABRIEL (NZ) – Held up for a run from the 400m until the 250m. Steadied near the 150m when tightened between POWER REECE and BIG TICKET BOY, which was taken in slightly by THE BIG BLUE (NZ).
 
BODHRAN - Refused to proceed to the barriers and subsequently was declared a late withdrawal at 4:33pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on BODHRAN be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
 
1st TECHNA 5c win, 9c place
2nd VALOROUS POWER 4c place
3rd CANSORT 8c place
 
Trainer C. Anderson was advised BODHRAN would be required to Officially trial to Stewards satisfaction prior to racing again.
 
DOUBLE WHAMMY – Approaching the winning post, raced in restricted room to the inside of CANSORT (K. Wilson-Taylor), which shifted in under pressure and consequently was not ridden fully to the end of the race. Rider K. Wilson-Taylor was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding.
 
EMPRESS OF JAPAN (NZ) – Obliged to race wide for the majority of the event. Rider D. Moor reported he had to make use of the mare early to obtain a favorable position, which consequently had a detrimental effect on its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Following today’s disappointing performance, Stable representative was advised that EMPRESS OF JAPAN (NZ) would be required to Officially trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.
 
MAD ANA - Near the 1500m, steadied when awkwardly placed between CANSORT and EMPRESS OF JAPAN (NZ).
 
THE BIG BLUE (NZ) – Apprentice C. Bellamy reported the gelding travelled well in the early and middle stages, however; when asked for an effort in the home straight was disappointing.
