GENERAL
Trainer B. Laming was fined $200 pursuant to LR 36(6) for failing to scratch dual acceptor CALL DA VINCI by the prescribed time which was a dual acceptor in race 6 and 7.
Trainer L. Birchley was fined $200 pursuant to AR 227(a) for negligence that could have led to a breach of the rules after it was identified that he had collected the incorrect saddle prior to Race 1.
As Apprentice J. Williams was unable to make the allocated weight in Race 2, he was replaced on THINK LIKE PADDY by C. Baker. Apprentice J. Williams was fined $300 pursuant to AR 190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight.
RACE 1 - GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1400 M
HIGH AUTHORITY – Momentarily inconvenienced on entering the home straight.
VANZADEE (NZ) – Hampered on jumping away. Passing the 250m, was placed in restricted room by RAGING RAIDER, which shifted in to obtain clear running. Jockey M. Du Plessis the rider of RAGING RAIDER, was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground.
JIMMY'S READY – Began awkwardly.
MISATO – Raced three wide throughout.
RAGING RAIDER – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Shortly after beginning, became awkwardly placed on the heels of MISATO and was obliged to steady. Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight until near the 250m and was obliged to shift in to improve.
PIROUETTE GIRL - Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight. Passing the 150m became awkwardly placed on the heels of BOLD ENVOY and was obliged to steady.
RACE 2 - BECOME A BRC MEMBER CLASS 3 PLATE 1805 M
FELIX THE SCAT – Apprentice L. Martyn could offer no explanation for todays below market performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainers’ representative C. Cavanagh was asked to report back to Stewards on the condition of FELIX THE SCAT in the days subsequent.
O'CALDINO – Began awkwardly. Inclined to lay out in the early and middle stages.
AMPLIFY – Hung in when placed under pressure in the home straight obliging Jockey B. Thompson to stop and straighten on a number of occasions over the final 150m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
DIAMOND SHOW (NZ) – Inconvenienced shortly after jumping away and lost ground. Apprentice C. Bellamy was reprimanded pursuant to AR 132(6)(b) for using her whip above shoulder height.
KRUMAC – Shifted in on jumping away.
RACE 3 - SKY RACING BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1000 M
SIR CARTER – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
ACAPPELLA SUN – Began awkwardly, shifted in and was then hampered. Obliged to alter course and shift wider on entering the home straight to obtain clear running. Laid in over the concluding stages.
ARISPHERE – Shifted out shortly after the start. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight. Commenced to over-race leaving the 600m and after becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of BONFIRE SPARK, shifted out, making contact on a number of occasions with LARADO.
LADY WARDELL – Hampered and had to be steadied shortly after the start.
LARADO – Leaving the 600m, was hampered and carried wider, having its hindquarters contacted by ARISPHERE, which shifted out after improving onto the heels of BONFIRE SPARK. Apprentice L. Martyn was advised to exercise greater care and to be more mindful of her surroundings before allowing her mounts to shift ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
DIAMANTINA ROSE – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
RACE 4 - COUNTRY MUSIC RACEDAY ON SALE NOW QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1000 M
Correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to view the official photo for third place. After doing so, correct weight was declared on the judges’ numbers.
ESHA – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after resuming from an extended spell and was cleared to start.
GET READY LASS – Leaving the 300m, steadied when racing in restricted room for a short distance between RACKETEER and BEFORE ANYONE ELSE, which laid in. Apprentice J. Williams was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out to the winning post. When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice J. Williams reported that the filly failed to travel comfortably at any stage of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
FORGOTTEN SPIRIT – Laid in for the entirety of the home straight.
NATURALLY LIT – Slow to begin. Race wide throughout. Apprentice C. Sutherland reported at scale that in his opinion NATURALLY LIT was not suited to the slow tempo of today’s race.
MISHANI EXTREME – Began awkwardly and lost ground
BEFORE ANYONE ELSE – Began awkwardly.
Following the running of this race, the track was upgraded to a Good 4 at 1:20pm.
RACE 5 - DRINKWISE BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 2200 M
DIABLO BOLT – Hampered on entering the home straight by MARENARO, which improved into a position where there was insufficient room to do so. Jockey G. Geran, the rider of MARENARO was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainers’ representative H. Gregory was advised of the provisions of AR79(4).
THE RIGHT WAY (NZ) – Approaching the 800m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of CAPTAIN MAVERICK (IRE) which shifted in to take up leading position. Jockey R. Maloney, the rider ofCAPTAIN MAVERICK (IRE) was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding.
TAPILDOODLEDO (NZ) – When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of TAPILDOODLEDO (NZ), Trainer K. Taplin reported that with the drop back in grade from its last start at the Sunshine Coast, along with the apprentice 2kg claim, he was confident of a forward showing.
CHILLAXING (IRE) – Over-raced in the middle stages.
MARENARO – Co. Trainer C. Geran was fined $200 pursuant to AR106(2)for presenting MARENARO to the mounting yard without blinkers. Began awkwardly. Approaching the 600m, had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of LENNOX (IRE). Commenced to over-race and approaching the 400m improved into a position where there was insufficient room to do so between LENNOX (IRE) and DIABLO BOLT resulting in DIABLO BOLT being hampered and carried wider. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
CAPTAIN MAVERICK (IRE) – Connections advised a change of tactics – attempt to settle further forward. Ridden accordingly, settled outside of the lead.
CONNECTICUT – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Approaching the 1800m was placed in restricted room, contacting the running rail, by MARENARO which shifted in before being corrected. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey J. Bayliss reported that the gelding may not have appreciated today’s quick back up and raced flat. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
RACE 6 - XXXX BENCHMARK 80 HANDICAP 1600 M
CALL DA VINCI – When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice J. Williams reported that the gelding raced flat and, in his opinion, has come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. Trainers representative B. Hull advised that it would be likely that CALL DA VINCI would now be sent for a spell.
LIVALITTLE (NZ) – Passing the 1200m, had to be steadied after improving onto heels when the pace of the race slackened.
OCEAN ZAR - Bumped with AUTOMNE TREE on jumping away.
LARRIKIN ROGUE – Slow to begin. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey B. Thompson reported that LARRIKIN ROGUE proved disappointing when placed under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor recovery. Trainer C. Anderson was advised that LARRIKIN ROGUE would require a veterinary certificate prior to racing again.
AUTOMNE TREE - Connections advised a change of tactics – attempt to settle further forward. Ridden accordingly. Bumped with OCEAN ZAR on jumping away. Over-raced in the early stages.
GLASS OF ROSE – Began awkwardly. Carried wider passing the 900m and raced three wide without cover for the remainder.
MAN OF THE TOWN – Over-raced in the early stages when the pace of the race slackened. Passing the 900m, after improving onto heels, shifted wider on the track.
DIANA'S AFFAIR - Connections advised a change of tactics – attempt to forward. Ridden accordingly, led.
RACE 7 - MEKKA RACEDAY ON SALE NOW QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD AND FOUR-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1400 M
MONTPELLIER (GB) – Slow to begin. Apprentice J. McMurray dropped his nearside rein approaching the 100m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
MOONAN QUARTZ - A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer M. Lakey was asked to report back to Stewards on the condition of MOONAN QUARTZ in the days subsequent.
HURRICANE LU – Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight.
MISHANI WITNESS – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Leaving the 600m, had to be steadied after improving onto heels. Was unable to be fully tested over the concluding stages.
STATE OPERA – Hampered on jumping away and lost ground. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey B. Thompson reported that the filly over-raced and was inclined to lay out from the 800m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainers representative C. Cavanagh advised Stewards that STATE OPERA would now be sent for a spell.
TRAFALGAR SQUARE – Shifted in on jumping away and had its hindquarters bumped by STATE OPERA.
AVE CANTARE – Over-raced in the early stages whilst being restrained to obtain a position with cover.
GOLDEN CROSS– Leaving the 300m was obliged to alter course and shift out to improve into clear running.
RACE 8 - CRICKS HIGHWAY OPEN HANDICAP 1400 M
ANEMACORE (NZ) – Jockey M. Rodd reported at scale that ANEMACORE (NZ) failed to travel from rounding the home turn and laid in home straight.
SHA OF GOMER – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
LISZTOMANIA – Shifted out on jumping away. Held up for clear running from the 500m until entering the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey C. Graham reported that, LISTOMANIA would be better suited over less distance than that of today’s event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
SPACE TRACKER (IRE)– Began awkwardly.
SIR ARTIE – Over-raced in the early stages.
CASPERNOVA - Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early stages. When asked to comment on performance, Jockey M. Du Plessis reported that CASPERNOVA was inclined to over-race and proved disappointing. He further added that in his opinion, the would be better suited over less distance than that of today’s event.
RACE 9 - LADBROKES PLACE EXTRA TO 10TH BENCHMARK 85 HANDICAP 1200 M
HELL – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
GIVE GIGGLES (NZ) – Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 50m by HELL, which shifted in.
SCUD – When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester reported that the mare never travelled comfortably and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer P. Shailer advised Stewards that his intention is to continue on with SCUD’s preparation and in his opinion, the mare may not have appreciated today’s track conditions.
EN POINTE – Slow to begin. Shortly after the start, was inconvenienced and lost ground. Jockey R. Stewart reported at scale that the mare failed to travel at any stage of the event. Trainers representative O. Peoples advised Stewards that EN POINTE will now be retired.
HERMANITA – Shifted out on jumping away.
SUPERALLOY – Awkwardly placed at heels approaching the winning post.
