GENERAL
 
Trainer A. Campton was fined $200 under LR67(1) for the late declaration of M. Rodd as the rider of SPIRIT OF BRODIE in Race 3.
 
Trainer R. Vale was fined $100 under LR67(1) for the late declaration of J. McMurray as the rider of DETERMINATION in Race 5.
 
Trainer K. Kemp was severely reprimanded pursuant to LR 36(6) for failing to scratch ELECTRIC ARROW by the prescribed time which was a dual acceptor in races 5 and 8 and WHISKEY DREAM which was a dual acceptor in races 6 and 7. Stewards took into account Trainer K. Kemps’ excellent record in relation to this rule.
 
Co. Trainer C. Geran was fined $300 pursuant to LR 36(6) for failing to scratch KING JESTER by the prescribed time which was a dual acceptor in races 3 and 5.
 
Trainer L. Gough was fined $200 pursuant to LR 36(6) for failing to scratch MERCIAN by the prescribed time which was a dual acceptor in races 3 and 5.
 
Co. Trainer C. Geran was fined $100 pursuant to AR 65(1) for failing to produce OUR TUN NOW’s Thoroughbred Identification Card.
 
Following the running of Race 1, Jockey J. Bayliss was examined by the Official Club Doctor and stood down from his remaining riding engagements. Jockey J. Bayliss was advised that a medical certificate would be required prior to riding again. Jockey J. Bayliss was replaced as per the race day summary.
 
Following the running of Race 1, Apprentice B. Youngberry was examined by the Official Club Doctor and found to have injured her right hand. Apprentice B. Youngberry was advised that a medical certificate would be required prior to riding again.
 
 
Race 1 - SOUTHS SPORTS CLUB BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP   1815 M
 
I AM THE EMPIRE (IRE) – Laid out throughout the event.
 
SOCIAL OUTCAST – Passing the 50m became awkwardly placed at the heels of AMPLIFY and as a result could not be fully tested to the finishing line.

MAN OF THE TOWN – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
DIANA’S AFFAIR – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

THINK LIKE PADDY (NZ) – Over-raced in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
BARBRAY – Slow to begin. Leaving the 600m, when shifting out to improve had to be steadied after becoming awkwardly placed on heels. Leaving the 300m was obliged to shift out to improve into clear running. Jockey J. Bayliss was fined $700 and pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on 6 occasions, two of which were consecutive prior to the 100m and 17 times in totality. Jockey J. Bayliss was advised of his right of appeal.
 
OUR TURN NOW (NZ) - Began awkwardly and lost ground. Leaving the 1000m had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of BARBRAY.
 
THINKING GOLD – Slow to begin.


Race 2 - BECOME A BRC MEMBER BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP   2400 M
 
TAPILDOODLEDO (NZ) – When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice J. Franklin reported that leaving the 600m the gelding was left flat footed when the pace of the race quickened and failed to respond to his riding, and as a result he elected to cut the corner to save ground, however finished the race off in a disappointing manner.        
 
CAPTAIN MAVERICK (IRE) – Over-raced in the middle stages. Lost its off fore plate.
 
BENZINO – Laid out throughout the event.

FARWEST – Passing the 1600m had to be steadied after racing in restricted room when the pace of the race slackened.

DEMARCAY (GB) – Raced wide until the 1500m.
 
SOUTHBY -  Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
ARTFUL GIRL - Over-raced in the middle stages.


Race 3 - COUNTRY MUSIC RACEDAY 15 AUGUST NO METRO WINS HANDICAP 1000 M
 
THE FIXER – Leaving the 300m, raced in restricted room. Passing the 100m, shifted out to improve into clear running.
 
BONDED AFFAIR – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped PROVANCE. Leaving the 300m, was obliged to shift out to improve.

PROVANCE – Bumped on jumping away. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
KING JESTER – Held up for clear running leaving the 500m. Raced in restricted room until inside the final 100m. Leaving the 100m, was obliged to steady to avoid the heels of THE FIXER, which shifted out to improve into clear running. Jockey E. Lang, the rider of THE FIXER, was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground.

MERCIAN – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.


Race 4 - THE DROULERS CHEZ POCKETTE CUP QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP   1000 M
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey C. Graham the rider of the second placed RUN LIKE A GIRL against 1st placed QUEEN OLYMPIAS (M. Du Plessis), alleging interference near the 50m. Stewards after hearing evidence from the relevant parties and viewing the stewards patrol footage, were of the opinion that leaving the 100m, QUEEN OLYMPIAS shifted out abruptly, and near the 50m, shifted into the running line of RUN LIKE A GIRL, resulting in RUN LIKE A GIRL being carried out for several strides. Stewards also considered the ½ length margin, proximity to the finish line and how both runners finished the race off over the concluding stages and could not be satisfied that had this incident not occurred that RUN LIKE A GIRL would have finished ahead of QUEEN OLYMPIAS at the conclusion of the event and therefore the objection was dismissed, and correct weight given on the judges semaphored numbers.
 
STAR OF JAMAICA – Bumped on jumping away. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey M. Rodd reported that the gelding failed to travel comfortably at any stage of the event and after obtaining cover, commenced to hang out. He further added that in his opinion STAR OF JAMAICA would be better suited to 1200m, where it can obtain a leading position and dictate the pace. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
BOONIE BOOM – Slow to begin. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey B. Thompson reported that it was his intention to ride the filly in a forward position, however, after being fractious in the barriers and missing the start, BONNIE BOOM never travelled comfortably at any stage of the event behind runners, which in his opinion had a detrimental effect on its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer’s representative C. Cavanagh advised that BOONIE BOOM would now be sent for a spell.
 
RUN LIKE A GIRL - Held up for clear running in the early part of the home straight until leaving the 250m and was obliged to shift out to improve. Passing the 50m, was hampered and carried out by QUEEN OLYMPIAS, which shifted out abruptly despite the efforts of its rider.
 
MARIA CLARA - Over raced throughout. Leaving the 600m, had to be checked after improving onto heels.
 
QUEEN OLYMPIAS – Inside the final 100m, shifted out abruptly despite the efforts of its rider. Trainer C. Anderson was advised that the filly would be required to officially trial prior to racing again.

ERIMAR – Passing the 50m, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of QUEEN OLYMPIAS which shifted out abruptly despite the efforts of its rider.

TALE OF TASS – Shifted in on jumping away and bumped STAR OF JAMAICA.        

Race 5 - MEKKA RACEDAY 22 AUGUST BENCHMARK 72 HANDICAP   1200 M

STANISLAUS – Approaching the 200m, became awkwardly placed on the heels of PERLE DE CHOCOLAT after shifting out marginally at the same point PERLE DE CHOCOLAT shifted in marginally.

DETERMINATION – When asked to comment on performance, Apprentice J. McMurray could offer no explanation for today’s disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed respiratory noises. Trainer R. Vale was advised that a veterinary certificate inclusive of endoscopic results would be required prior to racing again.
 
MANPOWER – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

NATURALLY LIT – Passing the 900m, hung out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer S. Dwyer was advised of the provisions of AR79(4).  
 
NEVERENOUGHLEGO – Began awkwardly.   
 
BILLIONAIR BABY – Slow to begin.
 
PERLE DE CHOCOLAT – Raced wide throughout.    


Race 6 - DRINKWISE NO METRO WINS HANDICAP 1400 M
 
BADGERS NUTS (NZ) – Over-raced in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover. Apprentice C. Baker lost her nearside rein near the 150m before re-gathering it over the concluding stages.
 
MEAN APPROACH – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
LARRIKIN ROGUE – Slow to begin.

LA COMETA (NZ) – Jockey M. Du Plessis reported at scale that he became concerned with the mare’s action upon straightening and as such, elected not to place LA COMETA (NZ) under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed cardiac arrythmia. Trainer S. Dwyer was advised that veterinary clearance, inclusive of ECG results and a satisfactory cardiac auscultation veterinary report post gallop of at least 1000m prior to being permitted to race again.

BOONDOCKS - Over-raced in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover.
 
COOL MUSIC – Began awkwardly and was then hampered. 
 
LISSARO (NZ) – When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey B. Ainsworth reported that the gelding failed to travel comfortably at any stage of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer H. Norman was advised that LISSARO (NZ) would be required to officially trial prior to racing again. Trainer H. Norman advised Stewards that LISSARO (NZ) would undergo further examination and testing by the stable representative and that he would report back any significant findings.


Race 7 - SKY RACING BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 1600 M
 
LIVALITTLE (NZ) – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and was obliged to shift out passing the 200m to improve into clear running. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted today, in particular electing to shift wider passing the 200m, Apprentice L. Martyn explained that she was mindful of not exposing the gelding to an extended run with the allotted weight, however after being held up in the early part of the home straight, she shifted wider to secure clear running when in hindsight the better option would have been to ride patiently to see if a run eventuated between VIMINELE and MIRRA IMPACT. Stewards agreed and noted Apprentice L. Martyn’s explanation. Apprentice L. Martyn was reprimanded pursuant to AR232(c)(i) for failing to follow sighting protocols.

VIMINELE – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure on entering the home straight.
 
HIGH DANDY (NZ) – Placed in restricted room for a short distance leaving the 200m. When asked to comment on the performance Jockey J. Orman reported that the gelding travelled well, however when asked for an effort on entering the home straight, failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor abrasion to its off foreleg. Co. Trainer C. Munce was advised to report back on the condition of the gelding in the days subsequent.

AUTOMNE TREE - Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey R. Maloney reported that the gelding travelled well and responded when asked to quicken upon rounding the home turn, however weakened over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer’s representative B. Killion was advised that AUTOMNE TREE would be required to officially trial prior to racing again. Trainer’s representative B. Killion advised that the gelding would now be sent for a spell.
 
MIRRA IMPACT – Shifted out on jumping away.

WHISKY DREAM – Jockey C. Graham reported that her mount hung in throughout the event, proving difficult to ride at any point. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer K. Kemp was advised that WHISKY DREAM would be required to officially trial prior to racing again.

EXTRAORDINAIRE (FR) – Hampered on jumping away.      
 


Race 8 - XXXX CLASS 6 HANDICAP     1200 M
 
COSMO CENTAURUS – When asked to comment on the performance,
Jockey B. Thompson reported that from the wide barrier he was obliged to settle further back
than anticipated and given the slow tempo of todays event he was pleased with the geldings
finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.

BOSSED UP – Slow to begin. Laid out in the middle stages.

MISTER BIANCO – Hampered on jumping away.

ELECTRIC ARROW – Began awkwardly and shift in. Over-raced in the early stages. Raced wide.
 
MISHANI CROWN – Hampered on jumping away.

FRAGILE LOVE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice L. Martyn reported that the mare raced flat and when placed under pressure form the 600m and weakened in the home straight.


Rae 9 - LADBROKES HOSTED POTS OPEN HANDICAP          1400 M
 
ANEMACORE (NZ) – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted today, Jockey M. Rodd reported that after beginning well he settled further forward than anticipated.
 
SIBAAQ (GB) – Shifted out on jumping away. Leaving the 1200m, whilst being restrained, became awkwardly placed at the heels of RISING PACIFIC (NZ), resulting in the gelding shifting wider on the track. Raced wide for the remainder.
 
SPACE TRACKER (IRE) – Over-raced in the middle stages of the event.
 
WARBY – Slow to begin.  

NAVAL SEAL – Began awkwardly.
 
BATTLETON – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
