Trainer S. McLean was fined $200 pursuant to LR 36(7) for failing to scratch WEBINAR by the prescribed time which was a dual acceptor in Race 2 and 4.
 
Race 1 - RACECOURSE VILLAGE MAIDEN HANDICAP          1600 M
 
The start of this event was delayed approximately 3 mins owing to INDAMOUSE being resaddled behind the barriers.
 
ZWEIGELT – Bumped at the start.
 
INDAMOUSE – Raced keenly in the early stages.      
 
BARTLE FRERE – Obliged to alter course near the 250m in order to improve.

PHOENIX LEGEND – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey B. Lerena reported that PHOENIX LEGEND failed to quicken when placed under pressure and in his opinion may not have appreciated today’s track conditions.

LAW AND ORDER – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Jockey D. Smith reported that his mount was inclined to lay in when placed under pressure and contacted the rail approaching the home turn. He further added that he advised the connections that the gelding may appreciate the addition of blinkers to its gear.
 
FIVE OF US – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
CHANCE DE LUNE – Shifted out at the start and bumped ZWEIGELT. Inclined to lay out in the middle stages.   


Race 2 - THE GIBSON MAIDEN PLATE 1200 M

DEALS – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages when being restrained to secure a position with cover. Held up rounding the home turn. When questioned regarding if there was an option to improve to the inside of MAJOR HOT near the 300m, Jockey B. Lerena advised that whilst aware that there was a run to the inside of that runner, he was mindful of ALTO LUNA shifting outwards from his inside and given the proximity to that runners heels he elected to shift wider around MAJOR HOT in an effort to secure clear running. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
MR HILTON – Hampered at the start. Laid out rounding the home turn. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey J. Franklin reported after being slow to begin, the gelding commenced to over-race and was inclined to lay out when placed under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame on its off foreleg. Trainer J. Townsend was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to racing again.
 
VEOMAS (NZ) – Connections advised a change of tactics in that VEOMAS (NZ) would be ridden more forward. Ridden accordingly. Over-raced when leading. Jockey A. Jones was reminded of her obligations to fully test her mounts to the conclusion of the event.

MAJOR HOT – Raced wide throughout. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice F. Sandkuhl was advised to exercise greater care and stop and straighten her mounts when shifting ground.

SWIFT WINTER – Raced wide throughout.
 
ALTO LUNA – Obliged to alter course near the 300m.

WEBINAR – Raced awkwardly shortly after the start. Over-raced in the middle stages. Raced wide throughout.
 
BOUND FOR MOSCOW – Slow to begin. Laid out approaching the 1000m.
 
PUNGWE RIVER (GB) – Shifted in at the start. Held up rounding the home turn.    


Race 3 - SKY RACING OPEN HANDICAP        1200 M
 
The start of this event was delayed approximately 6 mins owing to TERMAGANT becoming fractious in the mounting yard and dislodging Jockey A. Jones. Subsequently, TERMAGANT underwent a veterinary examination and was declared a late scratching at 1:55pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on TERMAGANT be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
 
1st BIANCELLI 9c win, 7c place
2nd CASPERNOVA 10c place
3rd BUNKER HUT (NZ) 12c place
 
Trainer A. Campton was advised that a warning would now be placed on TERMAGANT in relation to its pre-race manners and that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to racing again.
 
Jockey A. Jones was examined by the Official Club Doctor and QAS Officials and was cleared to fulfil her remaining riding engagements.
 
BUNKER HUT (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
 
CASPERNOVA – Near the 800m, improved onto heels and had to be steadied.
 
KRAKARIB - Began very awkwardly, contacted the inside barrier partition and lost ground. Over-raced in the early stages.

ELECTED (IRE) – Raced wide for the majority. Over-raced in the middle stages.  
 
RAZORS – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.       
 
BIANCELLI – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.                   


Race 4 - BECOME A BRC MEMBER QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200 M

BOOMTOWN FOX – Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
BUCKALAA – Began awkwardly.
 
BUDDA BAR - Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.

GRAFFITUDE – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.       
 
TURBO COW – When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey R. Stewart reported that his mount raced greenly and, in his opinion, would derive benefit from today’s race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.

STEVIE'S SPIRIT - Raced wide. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey B. Thompson reported that the filly was obliged to race wide throughout the event, which may have had a detrimental effect on its finishing efforts, however despite the circumstances, he was not overly disappointed with the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

ATLANTIC CHARM – Near the 600m, raced in restricted room.

FLEETING BOOM - Raced wide. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight. Laid out over the concluding stages resulting in its rider having to stop and straighten the filly approaching the winning post.
 
SUMMER SENSATION – Raced wide.
 
ZOUREKA – Tightened for room near the 600m by TURBO COW, which laid in despite the efforts of its rider.

PAULA – Improved the heels of CALISTO COMET near the 150m and was obliged to alter course. Near the 50m was disappointed for a run between TURBO COW and CALISTO COMET and was unable to be fully tested by its rider to the finishing line.

ZOU ZOU ZIPORA – Began awkwardly. Raced wide. Eased out of the event from the 600m. Jockey J. Franklin reported that he had concerns with the filly’s action approaching the 600m point and therefore elected to ease ZOU ZOU ZIPORA out of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed upper respiratory noises. Trainer K. Kemp was advised that a veterinary certificate inclusive of endoscopic results would be required prior to racing again.
 
WULFHERE – Near the 600m, steadied after improving onto the heels of CALISTO COMET.
 
MONARCHAL – Slow to begin. Laid out near the 1000m. Near the 600m had to be steadied from the heels of WULFHERE.

CALISTO COMET– Near the 900m, raced in restricted room. Near the 600m, had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of ATLANTIC CHARM.


Race 5 - SPRING CARNIVAL ON SALE NOW CLASS 3 PLATE          1000 M
 
IMPERIAL FORCE – Shifted in at the start.
 
THE POOL BOY – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
VINTAGE VIBES – Lost its off-fore plate.         
 
Stewards inquired into the mid race tactics of IMPERIAL FORCE (S. Grima) and VINTAGE VIBES (C. Bellamy), in particular the margin gained on the main body of the field. Apprentices C. Bellamy and S. Grima explained that after making early use of their mounts to take up a forward position, IMPERIAL FORCE and VINTAGE VIBES both proved difficult to settle during the middle stages and rather than overly restrain, they elected to allow their mounts to travel comfortably. Both riders, after reviewing the footage, agreed with Stewards that they should have made greater effort to steady their mounts in the middle stages. Given the level of experience of both riders, Stewards noted the comments of both Apprentices and took the matter no further.

Race 6 - XXXX QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD AND FOUR-YEARS-OLD BM70 HANDICAP   1200 M
 
KOKATAHI (NZ) – Raced in restricted room near the 1100m.

ROYAL AIR FORCE – Connections advised a change of tactics in that the ROYAL AIR FORCE would be ridden more forward. Began awkwardly and settled at the rear of the field. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey E. Lang reported that ROYAL AIR FORCE travelled comfortably, however when placed under pressure, proved disappointing. She further added that in her opinion, the gelding may not have appreciated today’s track conditions.

ODE TO BEAUTY – Raced wide in the early stages. Forced wider near the 700m by ROYAL AIR FORCE. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey T. Brooker reported that ODE TO BEAUTY was disappointing and, in her opinion, may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
BENT BRIDGE – Laid out under pressure for the majority of the home straight, proving difficult for Apprentice O. Kendal to fully test. Apprentice O. Kendal reported at scale that BENT BRIDGE hung out under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.


Race 7 - DRINKWISE BM62 HANDICAP          2412 M
 
WHATJEUDOIN' – Shifted in at the start.  Raced keenly when the pace of the race slackened near the 1700m. Over-raced in the middle stages. Raced wide from the 1000m.

FORTY TIMES (NZ)          – Connections advised a change of tactics in that FORTY TIMES (NZ) would be ridden more forward from the inside barrier. Ridden accordingly. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Held up on the heels of VERMEER approaching 600m.
 
MOANA NUI (NZ) – Slow to begin. Raced wide from the 1000m. Jockey R. O’Sullivan dropped his offside rein approaching the home turn resulting in the gelding shifting wider. Shifted in under pressure leaving the 400m.

VERMEER – Near the 600m, laid out and became awkwardly placed at the heels of CIGAR MAN. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from the offside nostril. Trainer D. Chujo was advised that VERMEER must complete a satisfactory 1000m gallop in the presence of a Steward prior to racing again. 
 
AYASAKI – Hampered at the start. Leaving the 1700m, shifted wider and was permitted to stride forward to lead leaving the 1600m.

BROOKLYN DAISY – Shifted out at the start and bumped ORMOND ROAD. Inconvenienced leaving the 400m when MOANA NUI (NZ) shifted in. Jockey R. O’Sullivan, the rider of MOANA NUI (NZ) was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding.
 
BILLS ANGEL – Carried inwards at the start by WHATJEUDOIN'. Over-raced in the early stages. Apprentice S. Callow was fined $500 pursuant to AR 132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip nine (9) times prior to the 100m and ten (10) times in totality.

CALIFORNIA GRASS – Shifted out at the start.
 
LORD PROTECTOR (NZ) – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Raced keenly when the pace of the race slackened near the 1700m. Over-raced in the middle stages.
 
MANA COMBAT (NZ) – Bumped at the start and was then hampered.   
 
ORMOND ROAD – Began awkwardly and bumped BROOKLYN DAISY. Over-raced in the middle stages.
 
SILVERTAIL – Bumped at the start. Raced wide from the 1000m.        

Race 8 - LADBROKES SWITCH CLASS 1 HANDICAP          1000 M
 
VANESSI – Bumped shortly after the start. Laid in during the early stages of the home straight. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed heat stress.

IDLEONBY – Bumped with LIFE AFTER LOVE at the start. Raced in restricted room approaching the winning post. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

CIPHERTEXT – Bumped with DON'T TELLYAFATHER at the start.
 
LIFE AFTER LOVE – Bumped with IDLEONBY at the start. Held up rounding the home turn until approaching the 350m.
 
DON'T TELLYAFATHER - Bumped with CIPHERTEXT at the start.   Apprentice J. Newman was reprimanded pursuant to AR 132(6)(c)for using her whip when out of contention.
 
SUN SISTER – Raced wide for the majority.
