SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
Gold Coast Turf Club - 19 September 2026 – Race 5
Trainer K. Schweida advised that North Pole, which was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice after being kicked behind the barriers in Race 5, had sustained fractured ribs in the incident and will be spelled for eight weeks before undergoing further scans.
GENERAL
Trainer J. Healy was fined $200 pursuant to AR206(2) for the late gear change of blinkers off for BUTTERCUP in Race 4.
Race 1 - SPRING RACING CARNIVAL ON SALE NOW QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1500M
DIAMOND OCEAN – Approaching the 1000m, had to be checked after improving to the inside of UNTIL NEXT TIME when the pace of the race slackened. Apprentice E. Pozman was reminded of her obligations regarding using the whip when out of contention. Apprentice E. Pozman reported that her mount didn’t travel comfortably in the early stages of the event and when asked to quicken from the 600m, failed to respond to her riding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off-hind. The training partnership of C. & K. Geran was advised the gelding will be required to obtain a veterinary certificate prior to racing again.
WURZBURG – Began awkwardly. Hampered at the start. Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Raced greenly approaching the winning post.
ANDER'S DREAM – Raced keenly near the 1200m.
UNTIL NEXT TIME – Bumped at the start by WIN STAR and was then forced outwards hampering WURZBURG. Near the 1200m, inconvenienced and carried wider by WIN STAR which shifted out. Approaching the 1000m, became awkwardly placed at the heels of WIN STAR and shifted in before being corrected by its rider. Laid in under pressure approaching the 200m. Apprentice J. McMurray reported that his mount had a tendency to lay out throughout the event.
WIN STAR – Shifted out on jumping and bumped UNTIL NEXT TIME. Near the 1200m, when over-racing, shifted out and continued to over-race when awkwardly placed at the heels of ANDER’S DREAM.
Race 2 - SKY RACING MAIDEN PLATE 1800 M
Prior to correct weight being declared stewards considered an objection lodged by apprentice E. Pozman, rider of the 2nd place getter KALAMIA KING, against the 1st place getter KOWLOON MAGNATE, ridden by apprentice R. Houston, alleging interference over the final 50m. After considering the objection, stewards found that whilst KOWLOON MAGNATE did shift in and brush KALAMIA KING inside the 50m, KALAMIA KING also had a tendency to lay out at that point, making contact with KOWLOON MAGNATE. Given the proximity of the incident in relation to the winning post along with the official margin of a short head between the two runners, stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that had the interference not occurred, KALAMIA KING would have finished in front of KOWLOON MAGNATE. Stewards therefore dismissed the objection and subsequently declared correct weight on the official numbers.
BLOOD RED – Bumped at the start.
CHANCE DE LUNE – Over-raced in the middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
CRUNCH TIME (NZ) – Inconvenienced near the 250m when KALAMIA KING (App. E. Pozman) shifted out. Apprentice E. Pozman was advised to exercise greater care.
KALAMIA KING – Approaching the 500m, improved onto heels of the tiring HELLUVA ROAD and was obliged to alter course. Shifted out and brushed KOWLOON MAGNATE near the 50m.
KOWLOON MAGNATE – Shifted in on jumping and bumped BLOOD RED. Laid in during the early stages of the home straight. Shifted in and brushed KALAMIA KING near the 50m.
QUARTZOPOLIS (NZ) - Rider B. Thornton reported it wasn’t his intention to lead, however after beginning well from an inside barrier and no pace shown by other runners, he elected to stride forward to obtain the lead. He further added that when placed under pressure in the home straight, his mount failed to quicken as anticipated.
WHISKEY WARRIOR (NZ) – Rider J. Bayliss reported that the gelding came under pressure at the 600m point and failed to respond to his riding, proving disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
AREMKAY – Slow to begin
HELLUVA ROAD – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor respiratory noise. Trainer G. Doughty was advised HELLUVA ROAD would be required to obtain a veterinary certificate prior to racing again. Trainer G. DOUGHTY advised he would give consideration to the future racing career of the mare.
MAREMOTO – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
Race 3 - XXXX GOLD FILLIES AND MARES BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1200 M
BREEZIN' – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after being found to have a small amount of blood in its mouth on arrival at the barriers. Raced three-wide without cover throughout. Apprentice J. Williams was reminded of his obligations to ride his mount out fully to the finish.
READY FOR AIMEE – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
TASMAN BAY – Began awkwardly. Shifted out under pressure over the final 200m.
BETTER SWEET – Raced three-wide with cover throughout.
EXUBERANCE (NZ) – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early stages. Bumped rounding the home turn.
PEARLS IN JUNE – Began awkwardly. Shifted out rounding the home turn and bumped EXUBERANCE which became unbalanced.
Race 4 - PINK RIBBON RACEWEEK MAIDEN PLATE 1000 M
DISPARATE – Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Near the 600m, inconvenienced and carried wider by BRAZEN DIVA which was carried out by HELL OR HEAVEN. Near the 550m, momentarily steadied when placed at the heels of BRAZEN DIVA which shifted out when awkwardly placed at the heels of BUTTERCUP.
KING CHANCE – Slow to begin.
SPEEDY CROWN (NZ) – Connections advised of a change of tactics in that the gelding would be ridden to obtain cover. Ridden accordingly. Laid in under pressure near the 200m.
ANDERLAY – Began awkwardly and hampered at the start. Held up rounding the home turn.
BRAZEN DIVA - Shifted in on jumping and had to be corrected by its rider after making contact with ANDERLAY and HELL OR HEAVEN. Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Raced in restricted room near the 600m when BUTTERCUP (M. Rodd) shifted in. Rider M. Rodd was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding.
BUTTERCUP – Rider M. Rodd reported his mount had a tendency to lay in throughout various stages in the event.
FINAL CRUSADE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
HELL OR HEAVEN – Had its hindquarters turned when BRAZEN DIVA shifted in shortly after the start. Approaching the 850m, when racing greenly, shifted out slightly and was then bumped heavily by PURSUANT (M. Du Plessis) which shifted in when not fully clear. Rider M. Du Plessis was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding. Near the 600m, shifted out when racing keenly at the heels of PURSUANT. Approaching the 500m, had to be momentarily steadied when, after improving to the inside of BUTTERCUP, became awkwardly placed at that runners heels.
Race 5 - CENTURY POOLS BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 1800 M
DEEP FOCUS (NZ) – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Commenced to lose ground from the 600m and was eased out of the event by its rider. A post-race veterinary examination revealed DEEP FOCUS to be displaying cardiac arrythmia. Trainer P. Shailer was advised that the gelding will require a veterinary clearance including the results of an ECG and will be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
LENNOX (IRE) – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
MOONSHINE RUN - Raced three-wide from the 1200m. Trainer N. Beck advised it would now be the intention to send the gelding for a spell.
BECAMO – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn until the 350m. Shifted in under pressure approaching the 50m point.
BOONDOCKS – Held up approaching the home turn.
HOT MAJESTY – Trainer T. Gollan was fined $100 pursuant to AR106(2) for presenting HOT MAJESTY to the enclosure without blinkers which are part of the geldings approved gear. Began awkwardly. Had to be steadied near the 50m from the heels of BECAMO (C. Graham) which shifted in. Rider C. Graham was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding.
NORTHERN DECREE (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
OUTBURST – Near the 150m, momentarily disappointed for a run between LENNOX and BOONDOCKS.
SLIPSAIN – Slow to begin. Leaving the 200m, improved onto heels and was obliged to shift out in order to secure clear running.
Race 6 - HIGGINS COATINGS COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1200 M
BAT OUT OF HELL – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
DUOMO – Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the middle stages.
BELIEVE IN ANGELS (NZ) – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination upon arrival at the barriers after making contact with the enclosure fencing when leaving the parade ring, and subsequently cleared to fulfil its engagement. Over-raced in the middle stages.
FIREFORCE – Began awkwardly. Raced three-wide without cover throughout.
MEET GEORGE – Began awkwardly. Raced in restricted room near the 900m when FIREFORCE (App. E. Pozman) was racing to its outside. Apprentice E. Pozman was advised to give greater racing room to inside runners in similar circumstances. Rider D. Moor reported that in his opinion the gelding was disappointing in its effort today however could offer no other explanation for the performance. Trainer D. Forster informed stewards that in her opinion, MEET GEORGE does not perform at its best at Eagle Farm and where possible, will look to start the gelding in suitable races at other venues.
DYAMI – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
Race 7 - LADBROKES HOSTED POTS CLASS 1 PLATE 1400 M
FARSET – Bumped at the start. Rider B. Thompson reported that after suffering interference at the start, he was obliged to race further back in the field than anticipated.
SORRENTI – Raced three-wide with cover throughout.
BELLA WAHINE – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground. The representative for trainer C. Waller was advised a warning will be placed on the mares barrier manners. Became awkwardly placed onto the heels of GAULTIER (T. Marshall) close to the winning post.
CAPITAL CHORD – Began awkwardly. Leaving the 1300m, momentarily steadied from the heels of MAQUISA.
SWANFELS – Began awkwardly, shifted out abruptly, bumping FARSET and becoming unbalanced. Near the 1300m, had to be steadied from the heels of MAQUISA which shifted in when not fully clear. Rider R. Maloney was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding. Over-raced near the 1100m and continued to over-race during the middle stages. Held up approaching the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Rider D. Moor and trainer D. Forster when questioned, informed stewards that the mare after begging aawkwardly and losing ground at the start, the mare was obliged to race further back than anticipated, which resulted in SWANFELS over-racing, proving detrimental to its finishing effort. Trainer D. Forster further added that SWANFELS would be better suited when able to race in a forward position. Stewards noted the comments.
LADY WINDERMERE – Raced three-wide without cover throughout.
PERCOLATE – Approaching the 1000m, commenced to race keenly at the heels of GAULTIER.
LECAN – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after making contact with the outside fence en route to the barriers and subsequently cleared to fulfil its engagement. Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Raced three-wide with cover throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
