GENERAL
Trainer C. Crockett was fined $100 under LR67(1) for the late declaration of R. Houston as the rider of DUROVA in Race 9.
As Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester had transport difficulties, he was replaced in Race 10 on SAILORS SECRET by C. Graham.
Race 1 - BECOME A BRC MEMBER QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1500 M
The start of this event was delayed approximately 4 mins, owing to WIN STAR casting its off fore plate and requiring farrier attention upon arrival at the barriers. Subsequently, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
APOSTLE (NZ) – Over-raced in the middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
MURKADO – Shifted out at the start.
WIN STAR – Approaching the 1000m, commenced to over-race when the pace of the race slackened.
SCARLETT BLAZE – Hampered at the start and lost ground. Leaving the 1300m, commenced to over-race when racing in restricted room for a short distance.
Race 2 - SPRING RACING CARNIVAL BOOK NOW BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 2218 M
BARAZIN (IRE) – Bumped with THAT'S MOLLY on jumping away.
SOCIAL OUTCAST – Laid out in the early stages. When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice J. Newman reported that the gelding travelled comfortably in the early and middle stages, however, when placed under pressure, failed to quicken and made respiratory noises. A post-race veterinary examination revealed coughing. Trainer M. Dunn was advised that a veterinary examination inclusive of endoscopic results would be required prior to racing again.
CAPTAIN MAVERICK (IRE) – Slow to begin.
THAT'S MOLLY – Bumped with BARAZIN (IRE) on jumping away. A post-race veterinary examination revealed heat stress.
DEMARCAY (GB) – Laid in in the early stages.
OLD SONG – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages. Leaving the 500m, became awkward in its stride after having its hindquarters contacted. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of home straight and when attempting to shift out to improve to the outside of SOCIAL OUTCAST, became awkwardly placed on heels.
Race 3 - BRUBECKS BOUTIQUE FOODS CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1820 M
GLOBAL ECLIPSE
GLOBAL ECLIPSE – Leaving the 1400m, when the pace of the race slackened, commenced to over-race and had to be restrained. Passing the 350m, when attempting to shift out to improve, was disappointed for a run between READY FOR THE TRIP and THINK LIKE PADDY (NZ), making heavy contact with THINK LIKE PADDY (NZ) and from that point commenced to weaken. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey M. Harley reported that the gelding was inclined to over race from the 1600m until the 1300m and never travelled comfortably. He further added that in his opinion, GLOBAL ECLIPSE may appreciate the addition of blinkers to its approved gear. A post-race veterinary examination revealed upper respiratory noises. Co. Trainer C. Munce was advised that a veterinary certificate inclusive of endoscopic results and an official trial would be required prior to racing again. Co. Trainer C. Munce advised Stewards that it was his intention to continue with the gelding’s current preparation, however, may consider a step down in distance and the addition of blinkers to GLOBAL ECLIPSE’s gear.
THINK LIKE PADDY (NZ) – Passing the 350m, was contacted heavily, becoming awkward in its stride by GLOBAL ECLIPSE, which shifted out in an attempt to improve. Jockey M. Harley, the rider of GLOBAL ECLIPSE, was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding.
READY FOR THE TRIP – Raced wide throughout.
GIAPPONESE – Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight and was obliged to shift out approaching the 300m in improve.
FAMILY OF LEAGUE – Passing the 150m, raced in restricted room and was obliged to steady off heels when racing between GIAPPONESE (J. McMurray), which shifted in marginally and DATA LEAK (A. Roper), which shifted out marginally. Both riders were advised to exercise greater care when allowing their mounts to shift ground.
MAKAMAE – Raced wide throughout.
DOWN UNDER STUNNAH - Passing the 300m, was obliged to alter course and shift in to improve into clear running.
Race 4 - LADBROKES MORE ON TOTE WIN BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 1600 M
LAST COMMAND – Bumped at the start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
BLAZEN BOOTS (NZ) – Shifted out at the start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer’s representative C. Cavanagh was advised that BLAZEN BOOTS would require a veterinary clearance, inclusive of ECG results and a satisfactory cardiac auscultation veterinary report post gallop of at least 1000m prior to being permitted to race again.
LIBERTY PARK (NZ) – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Leaving the 300m, was obliged to shift in to improve into clear running.
MAKE A CALL - Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
JUST IN TIME - Knuckled on jumping away.
KAIZAD – Began awkwardly and bumped LAST COMMAND.
Race 5 - RQ SUPPORTS SAFETY IN RACING BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1200 M
FIRST MISSION - When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice J. McMurray reported that the gelding failed to settle in the early stages, which in his opinion, was detrimental to its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
STRADA VARENNA - Began awkwardly and lost ground.
DARK ARTS – Raced wide throughout.
MERCIAN – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
BRIGHT BLONDE – Raced wide throughout.
CONTILDA'S LOVE – Slow to begin.
LOVE RAT – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
ANOTHER CASHIE – When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey A. Mallyon reported that the gelding travelled well throughout, however, when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
After the running of this race, Stewards upgraded the track to a Good 4 at 2:07pm.
Race 6 - SKY RACING CLASS 3 PLATE 1400 M
EXCEED PERFECTION - Leaving the 1100m commenced to over-race for a short distance.
KOMODO DRAGON – Over-raced in the middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. When questioned regarding settling at the rear of the field, Apprentice A. Roper reported that after beginning only fairly, and with runners improving to the outside, she established a position behind EXCEED PERFECTION which she felt would bring her into the race, however when outside runners settled, found herself at the rear of the field. She added that her mount failed to settle, over-raced and when placed under pressure in the home straight, peaked on its run passing the 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
EASY LOVE – Slow into stride. Approaching the 200m, raced in restricted room for a short distance when attempting to improve into clear running.
ALWAYS A RAINBOW – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
Race 7 - MORETON HIRE OPEN HANDICAP 1600 M
YET HE MOVES – Hampered and lost ground at the start.
NOBLE CONQUEROR – Began awkwardly, shifted out, bumped YET HE MOVES and lost ground.
BOYS NIGHT OUT – Shifted in on jumping away and bumped YET HE MOVES. When questioned regarding leading today’s event, Apprentice J. Newman advised that she was instructed to be positive from the wide barrier and was able to cross early and take up a leading position. She further added that the gelding over-raced in the early stages, resulting in BOYS NIGHT OUT establishing a margin on the remainder of the field.
NAILS MURPHY (IRE) – Laid out under pressure rounding the home turn. When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice A. Roper could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
AKKADIAN EMPEROR (IRE) – Apprentice R. Houston had difficulty riding out to the line after being awkwardly placed at heels approaching the winning post.
ALL KINDS OF FOLK – Momentarily inconvenienced on entering the home straight after becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of NAILS MURPHY, which laid out. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey B. Thompson reported that being first up today, in his opinion, the mare peaked on its run at the 100m and would derive benefit from racing today. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
Race 8 - XXXX ONE METRO WIN HANDICAP 1400 M
HELL TO PAY - Raced wide.
MOONAN QUARTZ – Passing the 100m, was obliged to steady when crossed by POCKETMONEY, which shifted out under riding. When asked to comment on performance, Jockey J. Stanley reported that the gelding travelled well, however, when asked for an effort, failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
HOPPER – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped SPACEBALLS.
TASORA – Raced in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 1100m when crossed by HELL TO PAY. Raced wide.
FORT WILLIAM - Raced wide.
SPACEBALLS – Bumped at the start. Hung out when placed under pressure in the home straight.
Race 9 - CENTURY POOLS OPEN HANDICAP 1000 M
STEADY READY – Bumped at the start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame on its off foreleg. Co. Trainer M. Sears was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to racing again.
FLYING DESTINY – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
TOWN CRIER – Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the early stages. Passing the 800m had to be steadied after improving onto heels. Continued to over-race.Momentarily held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
FLEETWOOD - Bumped at the start.
PETTICOAT - Bumped at the start. Approaching the 600m, became awkwardly placed on heels.
DUROVA – Kicked the rail leaving the mounting yard. Underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was cleared to start.

MOSKEETA – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Following today’s disappointing performance, Trainer C. Rode was advised that MOSKEETA’s nominations for future metropolitan races would be refused until such time the mares form improves to the requisite standards.
